《The Monsters We Become ( dropped??)》Chapter 11: Rabbits?????

“AHHHH, so that why stuff gone missing in scrap room.” Thesa says aloud. “ Other gobs think Dungeon taking stuff ‘gain.” She continues.
“Yeah, it’s been me. I’ve told Tonka I’ve using scraps of bedding.” I tell Thesa.
“That what most get used for any way.” She replies.
The boys walk back in. “ Thanks brothers. Just put with the other stuff. Alright we gonna start with making cord to use as string. Ok get some of the longer scraps and I then want you to cut them using your rocks about as thick as you thumb nails.” With this done I show them how to braid it, we do this till every one has 6 lengths of 1m cord.
“ What ‘bout the thing on chest do we make.” Basalt asks. I’m quite surprised at that.
“Sure.” I say. I then show them how to make the bandoleers. While they are doing this I make tops for the girls. I cut rectangles out of the fabric and I tie a piece of cord around one of the toggles and sew it onto a corner and so the same to the bottom corner. And on the other end of the fabric I make two loops out of the cord with holes big enough for the toggle to go though side ways I then sow them on.
Umm I need to allow for growth. I remove the loop and then take a piece of the cord and fold it in half making sure there is a loop on the end I tie it off. And then every few centimeters tie it off again, so now if you push two tied bits together you get a hole. I make 10 of these altogether. I then sow them onto the opposite ends to the toggles
I call over Lily. Here try this, I show her how to put it. She starts to unwrap the material I quickly turn around. Why the fuck is this embarrassing me, Thesa is over there topless so are Peony and Lavender, and I haven’t batted an eyelid. “ There are a lot of holes for the toggle to go through so you can adjust the size.” I tell her.
“ Done Gray.” I turn around it looks pretty good. Looking at the toggles it is only one from the end, if she another growth spurt again I might have to put longer loops on it.
“ Good they work.” I see the girls all eyeing the top. “ Don’t worry I have enough to make you each one.” Again their eyes light up.
I finish making the remainder of the tops.
“ Come on girls, here are your tops. Lily could you show them.” It looks like the all finished their bandoleers anyway. “ Under the bandoleers Lily.” I quickly shout.
“ Oh yeah.” She yelps. I feel like face palming.
The boys are yawning a bit by the looks of it, looking over at the girls I see Lavender yawning as well.
“ We’re going to bed soon.” I tell every one and they nod. Now that I have quite a bit of jerky made I better get rid of some of the grubs I’ve got stashed in my pouches. So I take out 7 of the 10 I have and give everyone one, even Thesa. “ Eat these then get ready to go sleep. We’re getting up early tomorrow to start training.” I tell them all.
“ I go now, I see you in morning.” Thesa tells me, the others wave bye then the all lay down, they all fall asleep nearly instantly. Before going to sleep I’m planning on making a backpack. In the largest piece of material I can find, it’s about a 1.2m long and .5m wide. I cut out a open cuboid shape, I sow the edges together leaving the top as a flap, I add the remaining to loop lengths to the bottom half of the pack and then add some toggles to the flap. I then make some straps for the back of the pack, after attaching them I do a few light stretches and then go to sleep.

When I wake I nudge the other awake. Once they’re up we go though a series of light stretches. After I have them all make a few pouches each for their bandoleers. As we are finishing Thesa Walks in with a smile on her face. She looks a bit different she’s taller and slightly darker than before.
“I ranked up. It’s strange though, never heard of this rank up before though. I’m now Goblin Huntress. I feel smarter and stronger, I think this due to you.” She tells me.
“Congratulations. What do you mean never heard of this rank up.” I question.
“ No one else has this rank up before and the elders have never heard of it before. Mags said there are legends of great hunters of the tribes from before we came here, but we can never be sure. But the only thing different is you are here and the knowledge you taught me about the new spears and hunting fish.” She informs me. “ And now I know more stuff about hunting. I also speak more like you and elders now.” She’s grinning the entire time. “ Also heard what you did to
Tonka as well hehehe, her friends aren’t with you, but they to scared to do any thing.” She’s grinning even wider now.
“Hehehehe.” I turn around and Lily is chuckling to self over the news of Tonka.
“ I’m in charge of your group now.” Thesa instructs us. “ But I’ll let you decide stuff to do.”
“ What would we normally do today.” I ask her.
“ Well. You should be taught how to hunt for rabbits today.” She tells us.
“ Does this mean we’ll be going out side.” I ask jubilantly.
“ Yes.” She replies.
“ Fuck yes. I alright.” I turn to the others. “ We going to make spears for hunting game.”
We head to the cavern and have every one grab a long straight stick and have them carve the end into a point. Then have them all fire harden the tips in the fire like a marshmallow until golden brown, then have them use the side of their rocks to sand and polish the edges to make a better point, we do this a few times. By doing this it removes excess moisture in the wood making, and sanding and polishing extra carbon from the light burn giving it a harder stronger edge. This will make the point better than copper tipped weapons. Thesa does this as well.
Picking up a piece of bone and taking out my bone dagger.
“ You can also do what we have just done to bone as well to make a better bone dagger than the one I have already.” I tell the others. “ But before we go I just want to pop back to the lake area to grab something I left there yesterday.” I tell the others. I realized that I left the fire board and hand drill there. Now that I have my backpack I can store it in there.
After the detour Thesa takes lead and heads to the side of the cavern we have yet to go to we get quite a few looks by the other gobs not all pleasant. I do notice quite a few racks over fires all built like the one I made yesterday. So that’s why the gobs were looking over the rack and fire when we left.
We travel down a few corridors, I can feel a breeze flowing down to us. As we leave it’s only a few hours past dawn by the look of the light. The ground around the entrance is flat but then in front of us starts to travel downhill into some woods. And behind us it rises steeper and steeper into a massive mountain I can’t even see the curvature of it. Thesa take us down to some trails and deeper into the forest. After a few minutes of travel we stop.

“ This is normally the area where every one goes off and hunts from.” Thesa informs us.
“ Ok to use your new spears to hunt things it much like using the other spear but you need to aim for the torso area, more importantly the upper torso so the spear will penetrate organs, like the heart and lungs. This will take the creature down a lot faster, if you can get a clear shot at the head either through the eyes or under the jaw up into the head this will take the target out the quickest but unless you are below and in front of it this will not work.” Seeing a few birds flying around.
“ Later I’ll show you how to make slingshots to takes out smaller targets and stun larger ones.” I tell them all.
“ Oh oh. I know how to make that now.” Thesa jumps in. “ I learned how to make that when I ranked up.” She tells us smiling.
Ok so ranking up can give you knowledge as well as enhancing your body and skill already given.
We split up into to groups Thesa takes the girls, much to their dismay. And I take the boys. This spot we will all meet back at in a few hours. Heading off in different directions I show the boys how to look for and follow trails left behind by our prey. We find some trails and I show them how determine wind direction, by throwing some crushed leaves from the ground in the air.
As we see signs of life we use the wind direction to circle down wind of the area, we see three bunnies, and when I say bunnies I mean bunnies the size of Alsatians. They are fucking huge I can see one chewing on a tree branch the size of my thigh like a twizzle stick.
Basalt goes to throw his spear but I stop him before he can. Motioning with my hand we back up a bit and in a low voice. “ We will need to throw at the same time so I will signs off with my hand 1,2,3, and when my hand makes a fist we will throw. Understand.” Both of them nod. Before we head back I pick up three thick sticks and quickly cut them into stakes. “ Once you’ve hit them and there down, run to them as quick as you can and jam this into their eye socket or up under there soft pallet.” I point to the point under the jaw. “ so it goes into the brain.” I pass them each a stake. Hopefully this will work as I have noticed we are all bigger and stronger than the other gobs of our ages.
We slowly creep back to the bunnies, I make sure we are down wind the entire way. Once we get with in range. I start the countdown. And release. We all through at the same time and tell all pierce the rib cages, we all dash in readying our stakes.
The bunnies are on the floor trying to get up you can see blood running down their chins and not all their own. Fuck. As we reach them they try to go for us, Basalt punches his in the face and stabs the stake through the ear cavity, wow smart. Onyx dodges to the side then roll under the second swing and jams the stick up into the soft pallet. And I jump forward before the swing gets to me bringing me closer to it’s body and I pierce the brain through the optical nerve.
Looking over Basalt is kicking the rabbit he killed. Shrugging I wiggle my stake to make sure. “ Guys wiggle the stakes a bit just to make sure they’re dead.” I inform them. “ Take your spears out of the then bring them over.” Once we’re together I take out my knife and I show them how to gut them by being very careful as I do not their anatomy. Ok pretty much the same as a rabbit.
Once they watch me do this, I have them do it using my knife but very slowly. Basalt nicks the stomach as he’s removing it, luckily nothing spills inside to ruin the meat. I have them dig a hole to bury the guts, after we all remove the intestines. We squeeze the remains out of them and use the water from the snake skin to rinse them through and our hands. And we then fill in our holes.
“ Doing this helps stop other predators from finding your kills as quickly and we’re keeping the intestines as the have other uses from using as sutures for sewing injuries back together or using as thread. Or even braiding some together to use as bow string.”
We skewer the rabbits on our spears to help carry them and head back to the meet site. We prop the rabbits against some trees and I then have them go find wood to make a fire. I look around and see a tree that looks similar to a silver birch from home, taking out my knife I cut some of the bark off. UMMM. The sap kinda smells like cinnamon. Odd. The bark is pretty close to the birch but smells faintly like cinnamon as well. Using the stake I use it to help dig a hole for a fire pit.
After that I shred the bark to use as kindling placing that near the fire. I go cut some more off the tree and add it to a pouch. The other two come back now I show them the bark and tell them what it’s for. I have them a some to their own pouches as well. I start up the fire using the hand drill to get an ember and use the birch-like tinder, I build up the fire and I then start to skin the rabbits, I show the other two how to do this using their sharp stones. The Girls are taking a while mind you we did get ours quite quickly. By the time we have finished and I used my knife to cut the heads off the rabbits, took some doing but I worked. I have the boys cut some stakes to cook with and I make some skewers for the hearts, livers and kidneys.
After we put the rabbit on the make shift spits I build something to hold the spits on using some tree branches. On one end of the spit I tie on another stick to make it easier to turn. We put the a rabbit on to cook.
After a while the girls return they all sound happy. Once they get to us they all stare flabbergasted. I see in their hands what look like normal rabbits. I’m a bit confused if there rabbits what the fuck did we get, Basalt and Onyx look confused as well.
“ HOW.HOW did you get them?” Thesa exclaims.
“UMM. We thought they where rabbits they kinda look like rabbits.” I say.
“ They kinda do, hang on I didn’t even show you what a rabbit looks like.” Thesa realizes.
FUCK SHIT FUCK FUCK FUCK. “ UUUUU. You described it to me I’m pretty sure, yeah you told me what they look like.” I lie quickly.
“ OH yeah I must of, silly me. I must not have said that rabbits where small.” I chimes.
*Sigh* Thank fuck goblins are still more stupid than regular people other wise that might not have worked. “So what are these then. Nodding to the heads we put on the stakes we used to kill them.”
“ They’re called Bastard Hares. They’re really nasty and hunt rabbits and other thing to eat, they don’t like grass like the
rabbits. How did you lot kill three of them.” She informs and asks.
“ We used spear first and charged in while they were impaled and used the stakes their heads are on to jam into their brains. Then we gutted and cleaned up a bit and brought them back here where we skinned them. And put it over the
fire.”
Nodding to the rabbits. “ Have you shown the girls how to gut and skin them.” I ask.
“ No I was going to do it now.” She replies smiling. While the girls do that me and the boys carefully flesh the skins, we all do it quite poorly but hey, better than nothing. I then instruct them all how to tan stuff so we can use the pelts later. As we can’t use the brains as we don’t have a pot yet.*1 Using the knife I cut in to the bastard hare and it looks cooked. Yum it smells great.

Fallen
He hadn't even gained a consciousness yet that he was bound to lose everything if he ever came to life. He hadn't offended anyone, but they offended him. He hadn't cursed anyone, they cursed him. He hadn't killed anyone, they killed everyone related to him. Thus, he silently vowed. "They plan to offend me for their own interest? I shall give them plenty of reason to do so. Do they want to curse me? Please do so, since I'm more than willing to be your living bane. Kill me? Sadly, you won't be the last having this type of wishful thinking."- The Devil -------------------- I think that I can manage 1 chapter per week now, maybe 2 but certainly not three. PS: As I think that there should be small mistakes here left and right, I'd gladly welcome a proofreader.
