《The Journey to Godhood: A Madman's Dream》Prologue

I was dying.

With a knife stuck in my abdomen the blood flows, creating a small pond.

Why did I even get into this situation. I was just taking a stroll in the park when I heard a yell. Damn it, why did I have to play the hero and check if everything was alright.

I had interrupted a pair engaging in intercourse. It seemed that the woman was not so willing.

Well, how could I tell? Because her clothes were stripped and she was struggling.

When the rapist noticed me he panicked and drew a knife.

I was shocked and couldn't move. Hundreds of self defense videos I had watched on the internet appeared in my mind. Before I could even act I was stabbed. Damn it, I should have been more aware. The rapist had already left the scene.

"A-are you alright?" A worried voice a bit hoarse woke me up back to reality.

"No?" I said while smiling wryly.

A tear stained face looked down on be from above.

"I-I call an ambulance." The girl still in shock tried to take out her phone from her handbag that was lying close by. She looked through the bag trying to find the phone in panic.

"Let it be." My voice seems to lose its vigor and I got colder by the seconds.

From all the panic she overheard me and still looked for her phone.

"T-There it is."

She got back to me and typed the number for the ambulance. Her hands were still shaky.

I grabbed her phone with my remaining strength and took it from her.

She looked at me with disbelief and panic.

"Why?" She asked.

"Let it be. It's too late. The ambulance won't make it."

"We have to try." She got more agitated.

The midnight wind made her blonde hair sway. A chill ran through my body from the cold. Her blue eyes looked like the clear sky on a sunny day, giving me a bit of warmth.

"Give back the phone. We have to try. They could make it."

She grabs the phone that is in my hands. She didn't snatch it from me, rather she was holding on to it looking at me with pleading eyes.

I looked at her with an assuring expression.

"It's alright. You can call them when I go to the after life."

"Why? Why?"

"Why? You ask? This is the end of my journey on earth. Karma knocked on my my door, demanding to pay up. I can't escape Karma."

Upon hearing the word Karma the woman narrowed her eyebrows.

"Karma? You are a good person. You tried to save me. You are a good person." She said while shaking her head. Not agreeing that I'm a bad person.

"Good huh?"

"Let me save you just as you have saved me."

She tried to stop the bleeding. Not sure how to approach such situation.

"It's too late I already told you. I'm just a fading existence." I coughed a few times.

She stopped trying to suppress the bleeding. She seemed frightened to make things worse.

More tears welled up on her face.

"Can't I do anything for you?"

"Please stay with me. I don't want to die alone."

My vision started to get blurry. Tears welled up in my eyes.

The woman grabbed my blood stained hand and held it tight.

"I'm with you. You are not alone."

"Thank you. Too bad that I didn't finish my requiem. Mozart got lucky."

"Your requiem?" The woman asked.

"My last musical piece."

"Too bad, I would have liked to hear it." The woman tried to be more cheerful.

"I can hum the first part if you'd like."

"Please."

I hummed the bits of my requiem.

On a cold night, a man and woman were holding hands. The man hummed a lovely yet sad tune to the woman.

The man however was lying on his death bed made of concrete. A complete stranger was by his side in his dying moment.

So this is how I die.

"It's so beautiful."

"Thanks. At least someone heard it. What's your name?"

"My name is Anna. What's yours?"

"I'm Frank. Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too."

"Anna, I'm tired, let me rest a bit."

"Sure."

I closed my eyes. The darkness when closing ones eyes seemed darker than usual.

I could feel the coldness and darkness. Only a speck of warmth could be felt where I was holding hands with Anna.

I heared the crying of Anna and the silence of the night. The grip of her hand tightened and her trembling didn't stop.

All that got more and more distant.
