The little girl learns injustice, part 2

I woke up, again alongside Aegle, who was still fast asleep, despite the bustling of crates of supplies and necessities still being moved around. The noise was amazing, and it was even more amazing Aegle didn’t wake admist it.

Eventually though, the bustling stopped, the room falling into a dazzling silence, even if momentary. The same maid from last sunrise came in, waking the girl next to me. The girl got up and thought, ‘really? What is it like 5am?? Why am I up right now??’ The girl still couldn’t properly ‘control her thoughts’ and so I essentially heard everything she was thinking, unless she focused on not telling me.

I hopped off the bed, to notice Aegles normally decorated, and filled room eerily empty, but I guess the bustling happened for a reason. Aegle finished getting ready for the ‘day’ (Aegle told me it was a saying.) but sun rise fit it much more in my opinion. Aegle had taught me lots of ‘sayings’ all of them set in stone for the men and women, which confused me. Why do all the men and women use the same phrases? Why are there so many? I’ll ask Aegle in the ‘carriage’ a thing that is pulled my ‘horses’ to do the running for you. Very good.

We got to the forest out the forest at half sunrise or ‘noon’ Aegle said. Apparently, we weren’t done using the ‘carriage’ yet, but is it really ok for me to accept these words? Do they fit me? Are they even meant for me to use? Actually, is a dragon even supposed to use words? What to dragons do? I had asked the first set of questions to Aegle in the carriage earlier so I couldn’t ask these ones, seeing as we were still in the carriage.

Suddenly, a ‘royal guard’, a man adorned in shiny armor, a long spear, and a yellow strip tied across his chest. He said audibly, (which Aegle had to recount to me of course) “the destination is near, we shall be there in just one hour” after saying that, he went back to facing straight forward, with a stoic look on his face.

With that, I curled up next to Aegle, with almost no headroom I put my head on Aegles lap, which the ‘royal guard broke his look of un-interest and blank expression and held a dropped jaw. I strained my eyes and looked up at Aegle, who was looking at the surprised guard like this was natural, and she had no idea what could be possibly wrong. Even I, who had been thrown into this ‘royal family bond’ thing blind, and I even knew a dragon using an ‘elves’ (Cabel had told me stories of humans, elves, dwarves, and archmages, a sub-type of humans, during his explanations while walking to the royal families stairway. He said their could be more, monsterous and powerful, graceful and intelligent, but they were simply legends, as were dragons.) lap as a headrest was unnatural.

Eventually, the destination had arrived, and we had no more use for the ‘carriage’. The ‘royal guard’ got out first, and Aegle shimmied out behind him, pulling my headrest right out from under my head. I got up on my legs, which I could do, unlike them, due to my four legs. I jumped out. We were in the middle of the woods, like the woods I would run in. The trees were thin, but there were lots of bushes to be used as hiding places. I didn’t need to hide in bushes anymore though, so this place was simply a thinner version of the woods surrounding the ‘elves’ land.

The ‘royal guard’ began setting up ‘camp’ Aegle told me of the process as I curled up in her lap, I don’t know why, but recently, I have been very sleepy. I didn’t fall asleep though, I more like, floated. Being awake and asleep all at once. I could feel the ‘tent’, logs, and campfire being prepared, but I could not see it. Almost like my instincts had kicked in, allowing me something beyond my understanding.

I opened my eyes once Aegle told me the ‘campsite’ was done, and that word, made sense. Finally, a word I could understand. CAMP, the thing we are doing, SITE, a place for doing! This is now my favorite word, and I shared this excitement with Aegle, who slightly chuckled at my enthusiasm for a word.

The guard again had a stoic face, other than the occasional wide eyed glances at us when something, anything, mildly interesting happened.

The guard got up, and scavenged through one of the many boxes piled next to the CAMPSITE. As expected of the loud noises that had been going on last night, they paid off, the boxes smelled of many plants, and… meat? Meat? Here? From the ‘elves?’ I never had meat from the ‘elves’. I leaped off Aegles lap, whose hands backed off from my back, showing slight surprise, and she said to me, ‘what are you doing?’ I told her quickly.

‘Meat.’

Her face darkened, like a mother disappointed in its child, but I didn’t look to long so I’m not sure, because meat.

The guards hands slowly lifted up from the box, making my anticipation all the more extreme. What he pulled out was… MEAT! A slab of meat was placed down, on a… ‘plate’ Aegle quickly added after I asked. Raw meat. Yes. I ate it. So quickly. And after that, I just as quickly, fell asleep. Right next to the ‘plate’. Like before, when I was asleep I could still here the world around, or feel it rather. I could tell Aegle and the guard were eating, that it was now moonrise, and that an animal? No a monster, something comparable to me, something that told me to fight, something that was big, was near?

No. No. No. No. No. These instincts feel right, but, I know their wrong. So, I continued sensing it, feeling if it crawled closer, and it didn’t.

So I’m sure it’s nothing.
