《Weak 'Heroes'》Chapter 4: Magic

The Mages went back to their room where they were originally shuffled in. Liam, Jackson and Evie were already back. Both Evie and Jackson were pale with bandages on them. I couldn't help but run to them.

"What happened? Are you okay?". James ran as fast as he could.

"We're fine. I just got shot in the leg". Evie laughed it off.

James was stunned. "What do you mean you got shot? What lesson were you even put in, did they call out your individual classes?". James recalled that nobody else was an Archer or an Assassin.

"Chill out we're both fine it was apart of a spar. We have an Elf teacher named Ellie. She teaches us both".

Liam eyes glistened, having a small story to tell. "About that, I have to learn the Elvish Language so I can use Spirit Magic. Apparently there are not many humans who use it". Liam flashed his book towards the group.

With that, they all conversed about their experiences in the classroom. As they were all speaking, James went on his own bed to learn [Water Magic].

I've never used magic in my life so how am I supposed to learn magic now without any help?

He recalled Luxies words about imagination and how it's important for a mage to have an imagination.

He had an image of a lake running downstream and him sat their on the side of the lake, extracting water from the lake without doing anything. The water was just gravitating towards him.

He closed his eyes to concentrate properly.

With this, in his mind he zoomed in on his own body. He wasn't concentrating on the water anymore - he was focusing on himself.

He imagined what his body would look like from the inside. Veins, blood cells, organs - everything. However, he saw something bright blue in his bloodstream. He honed in on it for an hour.

He opened his eyes.

He stood up and his mind he said: "Water Ball".

Infront of him was a ball of water. He didn't know what to do with it and it plopped on the floor.

"GUYS LOOK!". He turned to his friends and realised everyone was fast asleep.

He couldn't even tell the time, but it was morning when they had lessons. So it's most likely still morning.

He drifted off quite quickly since it was the middle of the day when they were transported.

Everybody woke up to a loud bang on the door.

It was their individual teachers, everyone was there except Elo, nobody knew who Liams teacher actually was except Sam, Jackson and Evie.

"Did you all learn how to use your magic then?". Luxie asked everyone in the room.

"Yes". James was expecting everyone to say yes aswell since she specifically asked, but only him and someone else did.

"Everyone who didn't say anything go outside and run on the field. I'm not going to teach you magic if you can't be bothered to do as I say". Luxie was quite mad since she had expectations of them.

There were three people in the class. Luxie, Lou and James.

"Glasses, you go first, I was told you're a Druid correct? What element did you learn". Luxie was quite intrigued since there weren't many Druids in the world, including the Elves.

"It's Earth Magic, but I can't really do anything with it. All I can do is create a rock and float it on the air, I can't make it move. It's quite irritating actually". Lou sighed as she ended her sentence.

"Yeah that's expected. Currently, you only know how to create the magic, you haven't added anything to it. Think of it as an equation. You've figured out how to do addition, but the following question is about subtraction, but you've never done subtraction and can't recognise the symbol so you can't finish the equation". That was quite an interesting way of looking at it, but no matter, it made sense.

I'm quite impressed at how articulate she is despite her looks.

"It's fine just show me". Luxie was aniticpating this.

Lou closed her eyes and suddenly, a rock was floating in the air.

"This time, say Earth Magic then it's up to you what follows".

Lou was confused but she gave it a go.

"Earth Magic: Rock".

The same Rock occured, however this time it was bigger.

Luxie nodded her head.

"You can't do chantless magic properly yet do to your efficiency stat being practically zero still. Until you can learn how to make the rock move, you won't be able to progress said stat, but it's fine, I'll show you that today".

"Needle boy, your turn. Do chantless then chant like the girl before".

James did as said, and quite a petite water ball was infront of him. It was the size of a tennis ball.

"Uh, that's quite small. No matter, chant it". Luxie seemed worried for some reason.

"Water Magic: Water Ball". This time, the water ball was the size of a football.

"Good. Your chantless for some reason was quite lackluster, but it's fine when you chant it's as expected". Luxie nodded her head.

"Okay, now I know what we're working with. To make your magic actually move, you need to add something to the equation. It's quite simple when you know what it is. When you do chantless magic, you just think of the rock or the water ball right? You don't actually imagine it moving".

James interrupted.

"Uhm, when I start to do the actual magic. I don't think of a water ball. I think of a River, is that wrong?". James was quite confused.

"Uhm". Luxie paused for a second.

"Well, it's not wrong, it's just that you don't have the magic power to produce anything near as strong as a river. Meaning it's having a reverse effect and making your magic dull. Try chantless magic again and think of a water ball".

James did as he was told and the results were quite fascinating. This time, the chantless magic was the size of a football.

"Now chanted".

"Water Magic: Water Ball". This time, the ball was barely bigger. It was pretty much the same size.

Luxie squinted.

She didn't say anything.

"Okay moving on". For some reason Luxie started writing in her notepad.

"Both of you do it at the same time. Think of your magic actually moving from the spot it will be casted from".

I pictured a Water Ball hitting Luxie. At the time it just seemed like the easiest thing to do.

I felt my mana throughout my body.

The Water Ball slowly drifted towards Luxie, however there was a form of barrier and on impact the Water Ball disintergrated.

"Well done Needle guy, Glasses?". Luxie wanted it done at the same time but for some reason Lou didn't.

The same thing happened. The rock hit the barrier on impact and slowly crumbled.

I quickly looked at my status.

James - Human - 15

Occupation: Mage Apprentice

"Ah, my Magic Power went up by 1 since Water Magic is Level 1, my MP went up by 10 too!". It felt nice to brag until I was hit with reality.

"One? That must be a mistake. No way. I refuse to believe that". Luxie for some reason looked worried.

"What do you mean?". James was clueless.

"It's average to get a +2 in Magic Power, and for MP +20". Luxie was disappointed.

"Uhm, It's the same for me too, I got +1 in Magic Power and +10 in MP".

Luxie didn't say anything else.

"Okay, that's enough for today. For tomorrow your Magic Efficiency stat should be at 2 for tomorrow". Luxie nodded at herself thinking that was a decent goal.

She shouted everyone inside and threatened them, stating that if they don't learn an element, they'll be thrown out.

I think that's quite fair since they haven't actually done anything.

"Well done L-".

I couldn't even finish my sentence before she walked off.

"Ah before you go, there is a catering happening in your room, make sure to tell Glasses!".
