《Soul's Curtain》Chapter 1 - Unbound (Short Chapter)

The withered boy lay unmoving in his holding cell, dressed in bloody and ripped cloths and bound by his hands and neck to the cobbled walls and floor. His eyes amuck with hopelessness and fear, he could feel quiet echoes of an impeding eruption in his head, 'why again' he thought, he'd rather died than go through it again, the feeling of being absent.

In the recently abandoned prison Illias struggled against his cold restraints, 'Of course it had to be this' Illias thought, savagely pulling against his chains till they were straight and taught to the limit, before being violently pulled back and restrained further by its mechanisms. As the rumbling intensified Illias gave into his fate, staring aimlessly at his grimy, bruised legs and checking out redesigned potato sack they'd given him as 'clothing' The rumbles in his mind grew louder until his body couldn't stop shaking, to him of course it seemed like his world was collapsing around him.

But the rumbling seem to feel indignance to Illias's hopelessness, unlike the times prior to the abandonment that he'd get to speak to anyone for roaring in defiance to the thing in his head but now he could only wonder if the extra pain was worth the emptiness he felt. The shaking made it to the point where Illias had to push himself against the cold stone to find purchase, but the rumbling grew ever stronger - leaps beyond what Illias had ever felt before. The world itself seemed to collapse around him.

The rumbling similarly seemed to find it's purchase as it transitioned into a voice deeper than the abyss, questioning Illias directly;

"Are you without hope Child?" the archic voice questioned but with Illias's reluctence to answer it realised it's mistake in the question it had asked

"Child, What do you want?" it quizzed, and Illias found himself answering immediately - ignoring the buzzing in his chest;

"I want to be free" Illias answered his empty cell, only for it to respond with a short booming laugh before stopping abrupty - shaking Illias once again it seriously asked:

"Ask yourself again Child, What do you truly want."

Illias found himself lost for a brief moment before the buzzing made itself to the flame to fuel his answer, bringing hope back into his eyes the answer of his truesoul flowed from Illias's mouth.

"I want" Illias said, before reitterating "I truly want to be unbound, I want to go where I want unhindered." but he was not done, "I want to be free to walk amongst the stars, I want to be a contender."

"I want to be free" he added.

The booming laughter returned to it's full, Illias shook but seemed to have grounded himself somewhat - perhaps growing resistant to the voices trickery.

"Truly a greedy one." It laughed "But it shows great promise to be so true to ones self."

The laughter continued but growing smaller, ever so quickly it faded with Illias's bindings in tow.

From now on Illias Finn was a free man, and he swore that no matter where he wished to go that he'd get there with is own feet.
