《Imperium》Chapter 4: Liftoff

Sooooooo... I met lots of people. Thought about telling you all about them but that sounds like a lotta work. Don't worry, I’ll tell you about them whenever you see them in actual combat.
Ingenium asked me to join his group of Imperium. I don’t know. Sounds like a good idea in theory, but, well, I guess I just feel like I’m strong enough not to need a group. Although to be fair Ingenium might be able to kick my ass.
I asked if I cold have some time to think about it, and he agreed, sending me on my merry way.
First of all, I need to get fully used to these powers.
I stood on the top of Z Towers, right on the edge.
Funny.
I’d been in this situation before, yet for very different reasons.
I jumped. Or dropped… whatever. Oh god, what a feeling. I felt like I was getting a high just off this. The wind rushing through my hair faster than I’ve ever felt wind move. The lights below me approaching faster and faster and faster… aww, time to land.
I positioned myself so that I was basically standing straight up in midair, and then as my feet got within a few feet of the ground, I activated my power, destroying the concrete below me and quickly slowing my decent. It was kind of like trapping a soccer ball that was coming down right above you by bringing your foot down at almost the same speed as the ball in order to quickly stop its speed. I stumbled a bit on landing, which I realize I could have corrected with a few kick replays to hold my balance steady.
Wait just a second there, hold on. How the hell did I not realize that sooner? It was just subconscious, so I guess I didn’t really think about it at all until now. My power must have two different forms of activation. First is when I use it to, say, punch a wall in front of me a whole bunch of times to break it, but I don’t actually get affected by them. The second way is the way I’ve been using it when falling. I guess, subconsciously, I can make my replays affect myself with inverse push. Or something. Who was the inertia guy? Is that even inertia? Well, whatever. My point is that I can choose whether or not my power launches me. Like, I can jump between rooftops by making my replays have a pushback effect on me, or I can just use my replays to kick through the roof.

Ok well now hold on again. Can I make objects that I launch give me pushback?
There was a small crowd looking at me after I had just jumped off of a 40-story building and survived unscathed. Weird. I used some replays and launched myself up towards the nearest rooftop. I also happened to have severely underestimated the amount of power I needed, as I barreled towards a brick wall. I just used my power on the wall, and scaled the building quickly, leaving a lot of fist-sized holes in the brick.
I kept jumping rooftops until I saw a quiet little park, and then I headed down there. I wasted no time, shooting the bullet replay I had gained at the ground hundreds of times per second.
The first thing I noticed was that I didn’t even feel the tiniest bit lighter. The second thing I noticed was that I just launched so much dirt everywhere that it looked like a bomb went off.
Once again, I quickly replay jumped away from there.
I’m pretty sure jumping around does not look nearly as cool as flying would. Fear not. I have an idea. I’ve had these powers for a few days after all, and (even if I literally just learned something kind of new), I have a pretty good idea of what I can and can’t do. I got to another rooftop to test my idea. I took off my jacket, holding it out in front of me, leaving my arms in the pockets. I then proceeded to wave it up and down like a bird flaps its wings. I could feel the action enter my brain. I put my jackets back on prepared for disappointment. Luckily, my power had something else in mind.
I used replay on the jacket flapping hundreds of times per second in a fairly even circle around me, and instantly started feeling lighter until I started floating straight up. I pushed my power more, lifting off twice as fast now.

“ha. Hahaha. AHHHH THIS IS SO COOL!”
I couldn’t hide my excitement. And what was making me feel even more exited was the fact that I was barely pushing my power at this point.
I looked toward the Z towers, thinking about Ingenium, a stupid smirk on my face.
My stomach dropped. I knew at that exact point. This is where everything really begins, I thought, as I watched the bigger-than-a-skyscraper boulder appear in the sky and fall towards the Z Towers.

Modded Skyr*m: Real Life Edition
It seems that I died while I was playing VR Skyr*m. The next thing I knew, I was standing in front of the middle-aged man who called himself The Overlord of Dremora and Dragons. He told me they were releasing Skyr*m: Real-Life Edition. However, you have to be dead first to play it, and I was chosen as a 'beta tester' of sorts. I found myself in a semi-realistic (thanks to mods) world, and I want to have fun and relax for the rest of my life, and maybe get back to Earth. There's just a small *RAWR* problem. Setting: This happens within the world in The Legend of the Fake Hero, specifically two arcs from now. About: I am writing this for fun as a side project. I intend this to be semi-interactive as I will have polls where readers can influence the book's direction. I have the final say because I believe that too many cooks in the kitchen are not a good thing. The plan is to write it in parts that are around 1-2k words. Typically around every 3 to 6 parts, they will be combined into a finalized chapter and re-edited for a smoother read. Release schedule: When I feel like it. I'll be more inclined to write if there is more interaction, both in comments and polls, towards the story. However, I will be focusing on The Legend of the Fake Hero because that is something I own entirely and enjoy. I will try to do consistent uploads. Disclaimer: This work falls under fair use as it is a partial parity, does not affect the value of the original work, is an original story within the setting (within my setting), and is not being sold. All IP belongs to their respective owners (including myself). Currently uploading on Scribble Hub and Royal Road under the same username.
