《Bounty Cats》Book One: Chapter 7

Inside the armory, Rei glanced around, admiring the guns and armor vests on racks while sitting next to Luna on a bench. M-88 laser assault rifles, tear gas grenades and much more than she remembered trying at the academy. But she preferred using a pistol because it was easy to handle. Big guns were too heavy to carry for her. If she fired one, she might back her back.
From across the room, a deer officer, named Louie Davi, approached Rei and held up a gray metal case. "Here is your issued weapon."
Rei rose as Louie opened the case, revealing a handgun.
"This is a Transformer gun class one," Officer Louie explained. "Also called a TG-1. Have you used one before?"
Rei picked the black metal plated weapon, amazed by its long square barrel. "Nope, but I had basic firearm training at the academy."
Louie placed the case down and took the gun from Rei. "This gun is very popular among law enforcement. It can change into any weapon you needed."
Rei widened her eyes. "Really?"
Louie smiled. "Follow me to the shooting range."
"Don't mind me!" Luna grabbed a magazine from a shelf and sat down to read it. "I'll wait here."
Rei glared at her. What a party pooper.

The shooting range was next to the armory with five firing lanes. Each lane has a dummy, covered in bullet holes and burn marks. Nobody else was using the shooting ranges.
"Let me show you." While standing behind the table in front of one shooting lane, Louie held up Rei's TG-1. "This gun has eight weapon modes. Your standard laser pistol, energy assault rifle, tazer, grenade launcher, explosive blaster, flamethrower, shotgun, and sniper. Think of it as a one-man army in the palm of your hand."
"Cool!" Rei exclaimed.
“The gun has a voice activation mechanism. When you say two simple names close to the handle, your gun will change.” Louie brought the handle toward his mouth. “Assault mode.”

From the gun, an electronic male voice shouted, “Assault mode!”
The barrel extended as the handle grew longer in Louie’s hand. A reflex sight as the metal plates moved around, changing the gun’s new length. The gun changed like a Rubik’s cube with snaps and clicks.
After it stopped, Louie aimed the rifle at the dummy and fired. Bolts of blue light rained onto the dummy like a machine gun.
When the gun clicked, the officer stopped. “Ammunition is unlimited, but it needs to cool down after firing for a minute. Sniper mode.”
“Sniper mode.” The gun’s barrel turned narrow as its body turned thin. Its reflex sight switched into a sniper scope and two stands grew out beneath the long barrel.
“One sniper shot can travel up to three miles from one position.” Louie rested the sniper on the table with his finger on the trigger as he stared through the scope.
He took a shot as the red laser beam zapped through the dummy’s forehead. “The cooldown lasts for ten seconds. This mode is good for taking out targets with one shot if you’re lucky.” He lifted the sniper. “Now witness a taste of its ultimate power. Explosive blaster mode.”
“Explosive blaster mode!” The sniper rolled as it grew big into a circular-shaped cannon with two handles and a small sight on its right side.
Louie gritted his teeth as he lifted the enormous weapon over his left shoulder. It must be very heavy.
“Keep your distance, and you will be fine.” He pulled the trigger, blasting a red energy ball that flew like a fireball comet toward the dummy.
After the fireball hit the dummy, it exploded across the range with a loud bang. Flames and pieces of plastic flew over Rei’s head as she ducked. She imagined if that blast hit the back wall, it would have blown a hole through it. That would surely cost a lot of bitcoins for the MCPD to repair.

Louie placed the energy cannon down. “This mode takes a little longer to cool off. About two minutes, but effective against anything.”
Rei rose and giggled. “Thanks, but I prefer smaller firearms. But I like the TG-1.”
Louie smiled. “Pistol mode.”
“Pistol mode!” In an instant, the cannon shrunk as the metal plates turned, reposing its size. After it reformed into its pistol shape, Louie picked it up and handed it to Rei.
“Wow!” Rei felt no heat on the handle. It must have instantly cooled off as it changed back.
“You can use any mode that works for you,” said Louie, “try it.”
Rei aimed her gun at the next dummy near the debris. She pulled the trigger, shooting one red laser beam. It hit the dummy's crotch, which doesn't look appropriate. But at least she can shoot.
"Nice shot," said Louie. "Maybe aim higher this time."
"Okay." Rei glanced at the handle. "Shotgun mode."
Her gun grew big, forming two wide round barrels with a flat top, a fore-end, and a shock at the end. It felt heavier than its pistol size, but Rei has no problem holding it.
She aimed the shotgun at the dummy, although it stood two feet away from her. When she pulled the trigger, the recoil force pushed her back off her feet as the blast flew toward the dummy. She landed on her rear and the blast hit the dummy's chest.
Louie helped Rei up. "Are you okay?"
"Yes." Rei rubbed her rear. "That is why I like small guns."
The deer officer picked up the shotgun and changed it into its pistol form. "It can be whatever you need, but be careful with it. And your DNA is imprinted on the gun. If a civilian or criminal grabs it, it will shock them." He handed the gun to Rei. "Keep it with you."
"Gamsahabnida!"
"Excuse me?"
Rei giggled. "Thank you. I'm Korean."
"Oh."
"Are you done yet?" Luna's voice shouted. "My ass is getting tired of lying flat on the bench!"
Rei placed her gun into her handgun hoister on her belt. "Coming!"
"Wait! One last thing!" Louie pulled out a knife. "You will need a melee weapon too."
Rei glanced at the blade. "A knife?"
"Not only a knife." Louie pushed a small metal button beneath the knife's handle.
The blade shot up into a thirty inches long flat blade and the handle grew into a two-handed hilt.
"Uooooooooh! It's a katana!" Rei exclaimed.
Louie stepped back and swung the sword around. "This blade is made from Cyberium, manufactured at Rhino Corporation.”
Rei stared at the dark silver blade, covered in green sparkling circuit lines “What is Cyberium?”
“An extremely indestructible metal. The metal can cut through anything, including energy shields. It was artificially synthesized with cyber technology, crafted from a rare metal found deep within the Earth. I don’t remember the original material, but Cyberium is the best material for the military and security.”
"Cool!"
Louie pushed the button, and the sword shrunk back into its short knife form. He handed it back to Rei. "Don't wave it everywhere unless you are in combat."
"I won't forget." Rei strolled out. "Annyeong!"
Louie waved to her. "Good luck!"

El's Revenge
“Revenge is not for the dead- we, as the living, take revenge to relieve the burden we feel,” I whispered into the air. “Salvation for the people who suffered because of you,” I watched as the city burned in the flames. “Salvation for the people like me, who believed in the proclaimed heroes when in reality they were the devils.” I smiled faintly as the ‘holy land’ of those ‘saints’ was destroyed. I heard rustling sounds as Charlotte came to stand next to me, grabbing my hand. “El, are we the bad guys?” If I was still the same as I was before, I might’ve broken down and started crying. Now, it was different. “A villain is just another victim. They cry and mourn, it’s just that no one heard, leading them into madness. It’s one of the reasons why we know the most, but care the least.” I took a deep breath. “We may be the bad guys in other peoples’ eyes, but in my story, we’re the heroes.” Charlotte took in my words for a while and pondered, before nodding in agreement. “As children, we loved the heroes, as adults we understand the villains.” I looked at her and bonked her on the head, earning an angry glare from her. “Hey! You’re barely an adult yourself you know,” she grumbled. I laughed and ruffled her hair, before countering her. “At least I’m not 12. You can’t even be considered a teenager at that age.” After that, we silently watched the flames ravage the land, before leaving.
