《Level Up Lord》Chapter 4: Karl the Small

Ants became Karl's new source of experience points and as Ants were much more abundant than mosquitos, easier to find and to kill, Karl reached level 5 in less than a week. (He managed to kill more than 200 ants!)
Name: Karl
Age: 0 (124 days)
Race: Human
Sexe: male
Job: orphan
Level: 5
EXP: 26.70913/100
HP: 21/21
MP: 1/1
SP: 16/19
Credit: 37 pt
Stats:
Attributable points: 0
Points spent: 10
STR: 6 (+1) [+][-] VIT: 5 (+3) [+][-] DEX: 2 (+2) [+][-] AGI: 7 (+4) [+][-] INT: 92 (+0) [+][-] WIS: 87 (+0) [+][-]
While leveling up, Karl tried to understand the system better.
The stats before the parentheses were seemingly the actual body condition/stats while the ones in the parentheses were the ones he invested in and boosted. And somehow, the boosts were helping the body to grow and get stronger quicker than it should actually be without such system.
So basically, the stats should still have raised by itself as he gets older and bigger but the points he invested made the process of growth quicker (since his VIT and AGI almost doubled in such short time).
But then even if he had his stats raised, he didn't feel like something changed radically in him unlike in the fantasy novels where even a tiny variation of stats made the protagonists much much stronger and faster immediately (or the opposite in case of debuff).
Of course he felt stronger and more agile than before but then it was like his body was adaptating and getting sturdier gradually and slowly with time to match the stat boosts.
And moreover, Karl didn't know yet in which way and how the stats could influence his own body, nor the interaction between the other aspects such as HP, MP and SP where he couldn't understand the exact correlation with these and with the stat points.
It wasn't exactly like in the rpg games nor in novels, so he had to observe this in a much longer period.

Karl spent the following months to kill ants whenever he went out in the meadow in front of the orphanage.
Elise was always the one looking after him since there was no accidents with Karl who stayed rather calmly except for killing the ants (with a stone as not to dirty his hands too much) but that was just tiny detail.
Anyway, Karl continued to kill the ants as other insects or life forms were too hard to kill or were rare. He stopped killing mosquitos in the night to have the stamina during the day to kill even more ants.
And finally, Karl was a year old (400 days to make a year here by the way).
He stopped babbling and started to make short sentences to talk (He could do much better but he decided not to surprise too much his surrounding. A baby talking like an adult would be weird and suspicious, right?).
He also could walk around by himself on his feets.
He became a bit taller.
Moreover, the stats made him stronger and sturdier than your regular babies on Earth.
Karl began to investigate a bit further than the small meadow next to the orphanage. The river or hills not far from the orphanage were perfect for the small Karl. It wasn't that dangerous and Elise was with him anyway.
He noted what could be found around and what could be hunted or not yet. He also thought about what he could do in the near future.
Now, he was ready for the Bigger and Greater.

A Wheel Inside a Wheel
Two brilliant young me, Reinhard von Musel and Yang Wen-li, are forced to flee the countries of their birth and become refugees on opposite sides of a century long galactic war. While they both struggle to adapt to their new lives, their obvious talent propels them to the forefront of the war. Their choices will shape their adoptive homelands forever, and their clash will decide the future of the galaxy. This story is broken up into volumes, each following one half of the conflict. You can read them in chronological order, or you can follow just Yang or Reinhard. See individual descriptions below. Part One - Speaking in Tongues When Yang Wen-li’s father dies, the only thing that he inherits is a mountain of debt, which can only be paid off with fifteen years of his life. Wanting to escape that indentured servitude, Yang flees his homeland and takes up a false identity in the Galactic Empire, a hyper-stratified society where stepping out of line is punishable with imprisonment or death. Yang enrolls in the Imperial Officers’ Academy to study history, but despite his unusual and unmistakeable talent as both a tactician and a scholar, his classmates resent him for being a visible outsider. When tensions at the school boil over and several of Yang’s classmates attempt to murder him, Yang finds an unlikely ally in the top student in the class: the aloof Oskar von Reuenthal. But Reuenthal and Yang both have secrets, secrets which could destroy both their lives and their newfound friendship. [70k words, complete] Part One (Alternate) - Talking Without Speaking When Oskar von Reuenthal enrolls at the Imperial Officers' Academy, he doesn’t expect to make real friends. The IOA is a competitive place, and Reuenthal has never been well liked. But when a foreign student shows up to challenge him for the top spot in the class, Reuenthal can’t look away. [77k words, complete] Part Two - Life out of Balance When Reinhard von Musel's mother learns that her husband is about to sell her daughter to become the concubine of the Kaiser, she takes her two children, Reinhard and Annerose, and flees to the Free Planets Alliance, where the three of them must start a new life. [129k words, complete] Part Three - Servants of the Pharaoh Now an officer in His Majesty's fleet, Yang Wen-li struggles to maintain his principles in the face of everything that is expected of him. When he's unwillingly drawn into the politics of the court, he has to use all of his talents to keep himself and his new friends out of danger. [173k words, complete] Short - Whatever It Takes to Keep the Body Warm After their falling out, Reuenthal and Mittermeyer are both posted to the brutal wasteland of Capche-Lanka. It's difficult to hold a grudge when you're just trying to survive. [23k words, complete] Short - Keep the Home Fires (Burning) Three soldiers. Two bodies to be buried. One haunted house. [33k words, complete] Part Four - Lighting Out for the Territories While his sister has joined the fierce Rosen Ritter regiment, Reinhard's fame has earned him a post stuck on Phezzan. Instead of getting to fight, he's caught up in a web of secrets, including the shelter and care of a mysterious refugee from the Empire. Separated from everyone he cares about, Reinhard is forced to make some unexpected allies, and make connections with old friends. [147k words, complete] Part Five - Serpent's Mouth, Serpent's Teeth After having sacrificed his freedom to save his best friend's life, Yang must figure out how to win, and not just survive, the largest civil war in human history.
