《CHRONICLES of a PC Gamer Stuck Inside an RPG (Book Two: Successor)》Epilogue (FINAL)

I awoke to the sound of my smartphone ringing. I discovered that I had fallen asleep at my desk. With half-opened eyes, I fumbled around with my hands for my device. When I found it, I belatedly opened my eyes and connected the call. "Hello?"
"Hi, Lawrence. It's Cindy, your book editor," the voice said on the line.
I immediately jolted awake at her name. I looked at the computer screen and checked the date and time. I was amazed to learn that I had returned to the same day that the Gamemaster brought me to Earth 2. I immediately clicked on my word processor; my latest chapter was on display. The word count indicated that I was already at 80% toward completion of my weekly assignment. "Hi! I was going to call you," I replied.
"Oh," she sounded hesitant. "I need to take a sabbatical because I broke my foot and I'm at the emergency room right now. A colleague has graciously agreed to take over as your new editor temporarily. She will meet you on my behalf today at the usual time and place. Now is almost 8 o'clock. She'll meet you in two hours. Please bring a printed copy of your manuscript, along with another copy of your latest chapter, with you," Cindy requested. "Now, what did you want to call me about?"
"Oh, I was going to ask for a delay in emailing you the latest chapter. I'm still working on it right now. But I should be finished within two hours," I replied.
"Well, how about this instead? Let's turn your meeting with my colleague into a working lunch. Meet her at noon. You get two more hours to finish your work, but you'll pay for her lunch. Sounds good?" she asked.

"Yes!" I accepted her proposal immediately. We usually meet at a cheap, local diner, and I wasn't worried about the bill.
"I know we haven't gotten along very well. I hope you will have a better relationship with your new editor. Good luck!" Cindy hung up the call.
I slapped my cheeks with my hands and waited. However, no in-game message appeared. I was indeed back on Earth 1! I took a deep breath to calm myself. Since my former editor gave me extra time, I wrote like a madman to finish my weekly chapter.

I stared at my half-eaten roast beef sandwich. It was on a cheap, old plate on the table in front of me. I checked the time on my smartphone and saw that it was already a quarter past noon. What happened to my new editor?
Suddenly, a woman with long blonde hair joined my table and sat directly across from me.
When I looked up, I saw an angelic face! My heart froze, and I couldn't breathe!
"Hi! I'm Amelica Kingsbury, your new editor!" the lovely woman gave me a knowing look and offered her usual, dazzling smile.
I jumped out of my seat and hugged her. "How is this possible?" I asked in bewilderment.
"The Gods answered my prayers, my darling, and brought me to your world."
"But why?"
"I'm here to rescue you." And then she kissed me.

Vast Asleep
The story of Kingard the Binder in the aftermath of Broken This short story is the epilogue of Broken, the second book of the Chronicles of Mother's Gate series. It’s a great follow-up to the novel, a bonus story that adds extra layers but is set apart from the full-length narrative. Vast Asleep follows the story of Kingard, who finds himself caught in a world called Mother's realm, bathed in glowing light but strangely stuck in place. He encounters his greatson Varyan there, and learns that his experiences are likely dreams. As he grows more accustomed to the loving realm around him, Kingard remembers fear and trepidation about the face of the world, and he loses contact with his companion. This story answers the question, Is Kingard really dead? with a tentative no, and new mysteries brewing. It also raises the question, What's happening while he's awake? and includes an excerpt from the sister story Ride Awake, about Kingard's situation with the Colkh'rak. Praise for Tales of the Known World Bookends: Loved it. The difference between the two stories is great! The difference between the epilogue and prologue is astounding. So much light and love in the first story. You feel safe reading it. Healing. The second, so much darkness, pain and despair. The choice of vocabulary is awesome and makes an impact. And this set of short stories ties the two books together so well. -- Dana V. of Texas ★★★★★

Parallels
Parallels are a constant in life. Our friends' lives often run parallel to ours; we share similar experiences or tastes- perhaps even both. Sometimes, however, opposites attract- and our lives run perpendicular. In that case, we are not attracted by similarities; rather, we are attracted to the differences in others. So, what happens when two parallels are broken apart? What might happen to them? Are they forever doomed to run alongside each other, never seeing one another, never meeting? Or, perhaps, might they be spun about? Could these lines that formerly ran alongside one another meet? Could they possibly be set perpendicular? Any feedback is welcome, so long as it is constructive. Also, you may not use any characters, ideas, places, or what have you that I present here without my explicit permission. A note: This is a story which I began over a year ago, but never got around to finishing- it feels about time to really get it going. Now, there are a couple of things about the story, and myself, that need to be said. First and foremost, there's a slow start, but by the third-fourth chapter things should be speeding up a bit. Secondly, in regards to release speed and/or word count per chapter, I make no promises- my schedule is fairly random, and in regards to word count, I will cut off any chapter at any point that feels appropriate to me- that may include cliffhangers, if necessary. I'm not trying to reach a specific word count, I am trying to create a cohesive story, with pseudo-appropriate chapter breaks. This means I will also not rush a half-baked release for the sake of getting a release out. Thirdly, I will make any edits, anywhere in the story and at any time, that strike me as necessary- typically being wording and/or formatting changes, but I may also decide to change major plot points- in that case I would put a notification in the next chapter released. Finally, and most importantly, I am a Christian; this story is intended to at least moderately reflect those values. So, if you particularly dislike any of these things, feel free to look elsewhere, and don't let the door hit you on the way out. God bless, friends.
