《Sleep Walkers》Chapter 2 - Bad Dreams Do End

Lucas jolted awake in an all white room with his heart punching out his chest only to groan at the pain the slight movement caused. Try as he might he couldn’t move a muscle without being assaulted by waves of pain and he felt like he was being drugged into oblivion. His body felt weak and he could barely move his head to look around the room. What he could see was he was in some ICU ward, the white walls around him inductive of a hospital. The constant beeping at his side letting him know his heart was indeed working, he sighed staring a the ceiling.

He was such a failure he couldn’t even kill himself right, god knows the cost of the medical bills. His insurance might just drop him from the act of suicide and he was without a job. Lucas would be homeless by the end of the month, the little savings he had were no doubt long gone.. That’s not even the worst, the worst was the empty feeling still coursing through him as if he was a hollow shell just.. existing, here for the sake of it. He heard a gasp and turned his head to see a nurse with black tied up hair a fair body and dressed in all white dropping a plate she was carrying running out of the room screaming.

“Great, I must be pretty ugly now. I hope I still got my feet..and arms. Although I guess I don’t get to complain about what I got left at this point..” Lucas mumbled realizing his voice wouldn’t break a low whisper for whatever reason.

A doctor came rushing in or what he assumed was a doctor along with five other nurses all shocked apparently to see his ugly mug glancing about. They all spoke around him as if he wasn’t there, checking his vitals and looking about his records. Lucas wanted to speak but knew his mumbling would simply be drowned out by the loud cantor of those around him. So he waited, patiently as they worked their devices and do-dads. Watching other doctors come in all seemingly as shocked as the first and now Lucas was getting worried. What was so bad about his mug, he lost his legs didn’t he! Oh god how could his life get any worse, what more could go wrong. He let out a sigh and the whole room froze turning to him like they had seen a ghost. Lucas just raised a brow and the older doctor came over peeling off his glasses and sat at the bedside in awe. Now Lucas was panicking, the hell was so special about a sigh.

“Mr House can you speak?” The doctor said almost unsure of the question he was asking.

“Of course I can.“ Lucas said in a horse hushed voice.

“It’s a miracle.” • “This is astounding.” • “Go get Dr. Peterson.” The nurses all bumbled and the doctor at the bedside raised his hand shushing them.

“Mr House what do you last remember?” The man said with squinted eyes looking over his entire body and back to his face.

“Trying to end my miserable shit life, unfortunately that seems to be have been not so successful like the rest of my existence.” Lucas said seething in no small amount of self loathing.

“….Right so I’ll schedule a visit with our mental health cente-“ • “Don’t bother I’m not going, one to many shrinks already tried putting this Humpty Dumpty back together Dr?..” • “Dr. Naresh, I’d strongly recommend visiting them though, previous physiatrics visits or not..” • “That's great, still not going. Why were y’all freaking out anyways?” • “Well that’s…” • “Oh god I lost my legs didn’t I.” • “Huh..no? Gods no, your body is completely in tact I assure you. You can’t feel them?” • “I feel like I’m being drugged to high heaven, honestly the only thing I feel right now are large amounts of pain and regret Dr. Naresh.” • “Well…that’s something our wellness center can help with… Mr. House.” • “Please just Lucas my father was Mr. House, gives me the creeps hearing time called that.” • “…Mr. Lucas, there’s no easy way to say this, but you have been in a coma for quite some time.”

Lucas felt his stomach churn, the little he could feel was nauseating. How.. how long? By the faces of astonishment they shown with him waking up earlier he had to guess it had been long. Dr. Naresh seeing he fell silent stood up slapping his feet.

“I’ll leave you to mull that over and we can talk more later.” He said giving Lucas not time to respond as he shooed the nurses out the room. But before he could slam the door Lucas called out to him.

“Dr. Naresh!” Lucas barely could squeeze out a level above a whisper and it hurt to do so.

“Yes Mr. House?” The doctor said turning back, his old tanned wrinkled face etched with worry and pity.

“How long?” Lucas croaked and the doctor simply shook his head.

“Too long I’m afraid. I’ll give you time to wake up and the details later when your brother stops by. Im sure he will want to know your awake being the one who wanted to keep you on life support.” The doctor said closing the door behind him and Lucas just stare blankly at the door.

The latch shutting on the door was the loudest click of the doors mechanisms he had heard in his entire life as the doctors words were echoing inside his head. What kind of sick practical joke was the doctor playing? His brother paying to keep him alive sounded like something from a bad comedy skit and one he wanted no part in. The last time his brother seen him he wanted him dead and he couldn’t blame him honestly. Well he could and did but that was a thought for another time. He had done nothing but drag down his brother and his high brow fancy lifestyle he yearned so much for in the past so him helping him now smelled fishy as a market.

His brothers wife hated him, his children thought he was a bum and quite frankly Lucas didn’t much care for any of them anyways. Now the doctor tells him he’s been paying for him to stay alive? Lucas would think it’s some practical joke if he didn’t come out of an apparently long and traumatic coma. Lucas could finally move his hands around, enough to raise them to his eyes rubbing them as he stared at the white tiled ceiling running over his thoughts bouncing in his head like pinballs. This was going to be a shit show, he didn’t believe his brother kept him alive out of his kind hearted nature. Which absolutely meant he wanted something and something Lucas could give. What he had no fucking clue and that worried him, his hands dropped down but Lucas stopped his left halfway. Staring at his left hand he found an oddity on it, a closer look as his shaky eyes concentrated showed a black blob coming into focus.

Was that a tattoo? Since when did Lucas have a tattoo of a moon on his left hand. He held his shaky husk of a hand up glaring at the moon etched on the back of it. There was something off about the moon, like he remembered it from somewhere or had seen it before. Like it was an old friend visiting him from a long lost time he had forgotten. Ah, it was the moon from his weird comma dream! That had to be it; the one with the laughing fairy, his family and the chanting loonies…but still it felt like there was more to it. Like something was standing in his way from just pulling back the curtain on a long lost memory he had forgotten. Like all those child hood memory’s that came back with a certain smell or taste. It was beyond frustrating as he just couldn’t quite remember, his hand flopped down with a long sigh escaping his lips followed by a raspy cough. It seems his body wasn’t in the best of shapes, never was but now was especially bad.

The day passes by slow when you all you have to do is stare at white walls. Eventually he thanked the lords as nurse came in with food right at the time he felt his stomach trying to eat itself. Stale and uninspiring hospital food as usual but the nurse was a nice lady asking if he needed anything else. Lucas denied any further help outside what they had already given as god knows they’d charge him for that too, the nice act the staff held would drop like a hot stone when his brother wouldn’t pay and he couldn’t. This was America after all, your only treated as good as your dollar worth. Land of the money and that’s all, countries ideals were as bankrupt as its people but no one stoped to care as long as they were mildly better off the the next sod. It was always ‘the other guys’ problem so to speak, soon enough he’d be that crazy homeless man in the parking lot when the hospital kicked him out on his ass. Just another number in some politicians get rich scheme skimming off homeless programs and shelters..

Lucas eventually tired himself out thinking about all the crazy things his brother could ask for in return for helping him. He laid back and closed his eyes hoping another coma would take him back under. Maybe if he got lucky he could just sleep till old age and then die of some natural cause all on his brothers dime. What a cruel joke that made Lucas giggle in his cacophonous head at the thought. However he had no such fortune and no more dreams, his dreams of fantastical adventures in a fantasy world were now long gone and replaced with cold black nothing. Just nothing, like he was in a state of half death waiting for his old pal the reaper to finish his half assed job. If he was lucky he would, although now a days luck was something Lucas considered a scarcity in his shite life. A small shake grew and he felt something moving him out of his stupor. When he peeled his eyes open he was met with something worse then the grim reaper himself….his brother.

His normal chipper self was not replaced by a worn haggard looking man. Clean shaved like normal but with bags under each eye that spelled out long sleepless nights. His normal smooth slicked back brown hair was now tussled and thrown around, disheveled like the mans posture. His brown eyes looked as worn as his body but his burgundy designers clothes still showed his wealth in a way Lucas could only dream of. Dr. Naresh was standing behind his brother with a clipboard in hand, Lucas groaned trying to close back his eyes. He wanted no part of the hot pile of garbage fixing to come out his brothers mouth. He was shaken once again and opened his eyes staring at his brother who stared back.

“What.” Lucas said and the doctor looked taken back by his tone to his ‘dear brother’.

“Is that any way to treat your bother who kept you alive all this time.” He said smiling eerily and Lucas felt puke coming.

“David, the hell do you want. I’m not sure why you kept me alive but I’m almost certain it’s for something. What disturbs me is what you want from a broke man like me.” Lucas said seething venom in each line, the doctor realized this wasn’t a conversation he wanted part in stepping out the room. David glanced to see the doctor was out the room and dropped his smiling happy go lucky horseshit as quick as it came.

“An asshole like you has only one thing you can offer me. Time.” David said flatly.

“Aha, how exactly am I supposed to do that?” Lucas said scoffing at the idea, he was on borrowed time as far as he was concerned.

“I’m dying.” • “Well that’s one bit of good news I’ve gotten all week.” • “Thanks for the concern dick, I’m dying of kidney disease. Both mine are shot and they couldn’t find a transplant in the six years I’ve been looking.” • “I’m guessing that’s how long I’ve been out. Hell of a way to tell me brother.” • “I don’t much care for the mental sanity of a person who killed our family, just your kidney. Your body and blood type match up, us being twins and all your the ideal candidate.” • “Whatever, if you pay off my medical bills and get me out this shit show of debt you got yourself a kidney. Don’t know how many miles I got left of them being so used up but I guess you already considered that.” • “Yeah I did, thanks. I’ll send the paper work over with my lawyer.”

David stood up and Lucas just huffed, his lawyers. Of course he couldn’t be bothered to come back here again and se his shameful brother. The door closed and he was gone as quick as he came with Dr. Naresh stepping in holding his clipboard almost as a shield from what Lucas might say to him. He obviously eaves dropped making sure we didn’t go ballistic on each other, Lucas just laughed waving him over.

“I’m not mad at you Dr. Naresh, I knew from the moment you said he helped me it wasn’t out of kindness.” • “Tough family relations you got going on.” • “You haven’t the faintest clue.” • “…Should I start the schedule for the transplant procedure, I know the lawyer will still have to finalize it but I can rush it along. That way you and him can get out each other’s hair faster.”

Dr. Naresh seemed genuinely worried for him and Lucas smiled at that. A rare soul in the world he was and he respected the doctor for that.

“That would be great doc.” • “…So about that wellness center visit.” • “Doc, not gonna happen. I’m not insane just depressed and I got happy pills for that. Do me a favor and cut me some slack writing on your little board there I’m stable. I’m not gonna take my life again, that obviously isn’t working out for me.”

Dr. Naresh hesitated but wrote something down that Lucas could only hope was good with a nod.

“Alright, don’t make me regret it.” • “I’ll try not to. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m tired and want to sleep.” • “Absolutely. If you need anything.. just let us know.”

Lucas nodded looking out to the window the doctor opened up finally before leaving. The sunlight flooded in and Lucas stared at the cars passing, six years. Six long years, they hadn’t been kind to his brother it seemed. Not that he really wanted them to if he was honest, Lucas’s lip quivered and a small tear fell down his left cheek.

“Mom, dad I’m so sorry.” Lucas mumbled staring out the window as he broke into a hysterical sob.

Tiring himself out crying Lucas was ready to go back to the black nothing of his dreamless sleep. He was worn out and this day had nothing more to offer him, the next couple weeks would be hard on him and he had no illusions that it would get better. Just as he was fixing to let the sweat embrace of a sleep take him he felt a pain in his left hand. Pulling it from the covers he glanced at the odd tattoo he had long forgotten about with everything else going on. It was pulsing, the black crescent moon pulsing silver moon light as if the it was the real moon itself. With each pulse that grew he felt tired, more tired then he had before.. or a different kind of tired. He could resist it but something deep inside was telling him not to, to let him take him under. So he did, closing his eyes he could see the same image he had before of the fairy sitting on the crescent moon. Hanging her legs off the side and staring back at him with an long smile.

She melted into the moon and it spun in circles till it was all his vision could see, the spinning stopped abruptly as the moon was now full and a triangle patterns wrung around its side coming to a stop. It looked like a stylized version of the sun with triangle around it now pulsing a bright yellow light as it grew larger and larger in his vision. He felt a warm embrace wrap around his body and his body being freed from a shell. Liberated so to speak floating aimlessly before getting sucked into the sun. His conscious shutters and when he felt his new body land on something solid. His body had slowly regained feeling as it was turning from a spirit ghostly body to one that was more real and had feeling once again and he could smell an odd smell of cherries and strawberries. He felt something calling for him to name himself, something like a nickname. He didn’t know how to put it but it was like they were talking into his mind. The only thing Lucas could come up with was something that just felt right..‘King’.

Everything suddenly felt very real and he could feel a cold stone texture under him, a stone pad was below him of a crescent moon and sun on either side chasing each other. In the middle was a carving of the odd fairy he had seen, silver hair and a white body with silver wings lined in golden trim. Her body shown a bright yellow and he couldn’t help stare at the pad at his feet. Now noticing he had a fully formed body, a body that looked like his if he had worked out his entire life and kept healthy.

It was cloaked in an odd white top with the same yellow sun and silver crescent moon on each shoulder and white bottoms with silver topped boots. A dome appeared around the pad separating from the inky black beyond and he felt reality shutter as if it was being torn in two and he was shoved through with the domed pad. When the silver dome finally released from around him he found himself in some sort of chapel with a larger pad then ten one he was on below him with the same carvings. Around him were other people some equally as confused and other with a proud smile on their face as if they knew exactly where they are. Lucas glanced at his left hand like the rest and now instead of a black tattoo of a moon was the stylized sun with a cutout of 1 in the middle.

“What the hell.” Lucas mumbled as the chatter from others filled the room only to be short lived.

It was quickly cut off like a hose as the fairy he had seen in his dreams and on the carving below his feet popped into reality in front of them from a golden ring that closed behind her. She glanced around all of them smiling but stoped at Lucas faltering in her smile but only showed it for a slight second. Lucas couldn’t help but wonder what that was about and why did he feel like he knew her? It was all so familiar yet so distant, like he had been here before but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it. The fairy began to speak and it was distant, yet close. Sounding like the sweetest and most deadly voice he had ever heard. Ever word was pronounced and Vernon’s yet delicate and tiny contradicting it’s own statement.

“Hello, I’m Pan the god of adventuring and wild places. Im sure some of you already know me from your affiliation, I ask that these people please keep quite while I speak for those that didn’t come here by ticket. We have quite a few organic sleep walkers this batch.” Pan said smiling as she looked over the left half of the room Lucas was in, the right half all seemed to know what was happening and nodded waiting patiently.

“Sleep walkers, that is your name. Your probably are wondering if this is some fever dream. I assure you it is not, this is very real.” Pan said looking around, some wanted to speak out but their voices were muted as if the air was sucked out. Lucas couldn’t speak if he tried, so he listened patiently like the rest in blatant confusion.

“You have all the time you want later to speak, for now listen. Sleep walkers are gifted the crescent moon, the mark as some call it. Once ever twenty four hours in your world you will be given a chance to come here for a variable set of time. For now you are limited to a day, in the future this will grow as your Walker stat grows. The sun indicates you are in this world so you don’t get confused not that you would anyways but it could happen, the number in the suns center is how many days your Walker journey can last. Don’t worry about time passing in your world, one minute in your world is sixty days here or the maximum time allowed in Oveipa every twenty four hours in your world. One second for each day.” Pan said pausing as she looked around, Lucas felt confused and like he had lost the last bit of mind he had clutched onto. But watched on silently as he couldn’t speak, not that he’d know what to say if he could.

“You will be given tokens for completing goals. These tokens can be used in exchange for taking gold and back to your world or you can simply just bring back gold you receive from various methods. I’m not the god of good so how you use your powers in this world is up to you, truly I am neutral in that area. You can also use the tokens or to upgrade the body you host here via stats, such as the Walker stat allowing you to stay longer or the physical stat making you stronger with more stamina, etc.. These goals can be given organically or by affiliations you join like Guilds but take note affiliations take fees for every dream you complete and kill you take. Where you are located now is called a public Walker nest in a public hunting grounds, here you can save your progress and set a spawn location for next time your arrive in Oveipa or fast travels between nests already visited via the statue of myself over there. There is also affiliate Walker nests that you can gain access to immediately should you join one, but again this depends on your rank and fee you pay in the affiliations. Nothing is free after all.” The fairy pointed to the statue by a large set of double doors just like her with a plaque at its front.

“You can store items here, clothes and weapons via the statue as well in a locker you can access at any nest affiliate or not for a fee. There is no magical bags or inventory like games so carry what you want and drop what you don’t, but make sure it’s brought to a nest at the end of the Walker journey or it will be lost. Also if you want to progress across these lands make sure you get to a new Walker nest and mark your progress or you will be taken back to the last marker you were registered at when you come back and with only the items you registered or stored at that time. Don’t worry too much about language barriers as I’m sure some of you have noticed I personally fixed that. Talk and hear as if you spoke the other person native tongue fluently, be it this world or yours. Now let’s get you used to your status panel, simply think in your head status and it will pop up. It’s quite easy give it a try.” Pan said and Lucas half believed her and half thought it was a joke but did it anyways.

Some people jolted and some people jumped back silently as the voices were still muted. Lucas however just stared at the menu waving in front of him. This was familiar too, uncannily familiar and he couldn’t place his finger on why… his dreams! He had seen this in his dreams! So was he dreaming again? Ah it didn’t matter he would enjoy it while it lasted. He glanced back at it smiling, best dream ever!

[NN: King {+} | Dreams : 0 {+} | Tokens : 100 {+}]

He casually swiped it away like he had seen king do back in his dreams and the golden box fell away into golden pixelated dust. The fairy pan glanced over at him cocking a smile but it quickly vanished and she coughed to gather everyone’s attention back to her. Lucas couldn’t help but wonder why she kept looking at him, he just could not for the life of him shake the feeling of knowing her. It was beyond bizarre. Probably just a past dream he figured, made sense now that he thought about it. All his dreams coalescing, heck maybe this was the life flashing before your eyes thing he heard so much about. If so then he better enjoy it while it lasts..

“You should know that your nickname in this world is your name, using your real name is banned for obvious reasons. You are also banned from telling others in your world about Oveipa, trying will come out as nonsense. Also the banned is the proliferation of technology, religion and ideals of your world.. You can however help them move along using the three etherial Arts of channelers, scribes and shifters but do so at your own detriment, good things never go unpunished in Oveipa. Also, should you die in this world your memories of this world will be wiped and you will be kicked out loosing your mark in the other world. You will not be able to come back, or there are no confirmed cases of it happening at least…. For now.” She glanced at Lucas only slighting before carrying on, he barely even noticed.

“Now with my lack luster explanation over and without further ado welcome to Oveipa. Land of etherial arts and fantastic adventures! Don’t have to much fun now.” The fairy said winking as large white doors lined in gold in the back of the chapel slung open revealing a jaw dropping scene.

The white walls of the chapel draped in opulent gold rounded off in a smooth circle was already fascinating enough. The fantastical carving of the stone pad below him or the intricate scribes on the walls of various battles taking place and figures were all amazing. The statue of the fairy even more so, but what laid beyond those walls struck Lucas hard and the feeling of it being a dream washed away like a bad joke as his memory’s of past ‘dreams’ fragmented back into his head. In the immediate area the road leading from the Walker nest dipped down into a shanty town filled with people shouting and cursing. But that’s wasnt what caught his eyes, no what caught his eyes laid in the rise in the distance above the poorly constructed wooden gates.

Red leaves hanging from thick black barked trees that were blowing in the wind, the blue grass and greenish blue sky with white fluffy clouds. A far distant sun not to different from Earths, maybe a touch bigger and brighter giving off that same warm yellow glow. It all felt.. like home. Like he truly had returned from a long journey to where he belonged, tears struck down his face and he couldn’t help it. Wiping them away they just kept pouring, no one payed him any mind as they all rushed outside leaving him and the fairy alone. Pan the fairy god flew down in front of him and grew into a full sized woman, a gorgeous woman with features any man would swine over. Lucas however just felt like he had seen his second mother, wordlessly and without cause he stepped into her arms. She was surprised but said nothing just hugging him back and stroking his hair.

“Why do I feel like this.” Lucas said after the longest time over the snot running down his face and she just hummed silently stroking his hair.

Her non answer in a way felt like he heard all he needed to know. He sobbed into her arms for what felt like eternity and he eventually pulled away wiping his tears. She simply smiled at him fixing his hair and tidying up his shirt like his mom used to do. Licking her thumb and sticking down his hair with a slight grin etched on her face. To his surprise her eyes were watery as if she was on the verge of crying. She wiped them away while her hair fluttered like a constant wind was chasing it and snapped her fingers, a golden light descend from the heavens washing over him.

“I fixed that name of yours to ‘prince’. King has to much baggage now a days, no since in getting killed the moment you arrived again now is there?“ Pan said smiling with a slight sniffle.

“How..how do I know you? Why does this all feel so familiar, why do I long for your hugs..why.” Lucas said croaking over his tears and she just shook her head with a sad expression that was contagious.

“I’m not suppose to take favorites, I’ve already done too much and the others will no doubt be upset. How you got back I have no clue, but I’m beyond happy to see you…. I can’t say anymore as it would break serious rules that even I would have to pay the price for... Good luck king or should I say my prince.” Pan said winking while fading back into a golden circle that appeared behind her, Lucas reached out for her but she was gone just as quick as she came leaning behind the memory of her gorgeous smile and smell of strawberries and cherries he recognized.

Lucas felt to his knees wiping the tears from his face, for the first time in a long time the empty feeling was gone. He couldn’t remember everything but he knew this. He was here before, he knew her and king…he..was him. He was king, whatever that meant or whatever it was worth. This.. all wasn’t a dream, that much he was certain. He could feel her, see her expression and taste the salt in his tears. No dream had was this detailed, lucid or not he couldn’t see a dream being this vivid and this surreal.

What was happening he still had no clue but he knew that he would be a fool to walk around thinking he was invincible like in a lucid dream. This was reality however wacky it was, it was still reality and he was convinced now. He was so sure partly because of the past dreams or he guessed what were actually memories but really due to the emotions he felt being so strong and visceral. Did he once live in this world and got kicked out like Pan said would happen when you die? It was his first prevailing thought but she said it was impossible earlier, how he was able to come back was a mystery to her as well as him it seemed. But he could piece together from his emotions and past snippets on dreams no memories that this place was important to him. Far more important then that old grimy world he left behind.

He stood up and slowly made his way to the doors, he stumbled onto the steps of the Walker nest down onto the dirt road. All around him were people shouting out why you should join their affiliations or buy weapons from them. The people that pan had said were ‘ticket holders’ were already at their affiliates table. The ‘organics’ like him aimlessly stumbled about, some were roped into affiliations but Lucas for whatever reason didn’t want to. He felt strongly about it, why he didn’t quite know yet. However he was sure it had to do with his past here and he would listen to his past selfs memory’s, to kings memories.

People shoved by him in an crowded environment bustling with activity between the vendors and the affiliates all bidding for attention. He could see a few people in the distance in some arena sparing with swords and bows like some sort of try outs for affiliate groups. Watching them he laughed at the medieval dressing everyone was in with colorful and puffy clothing, swords and shields with shiny plated armor. Oddly enough there was also gun like weapons with golden circles on them, crossbows and other bizarre crafts that one would think made swords unusable but there was still plenty carrying them as if those weapons did nothing. It was truly amazing to say the least and he felt as if he was in some RPG game. Colors of the affiliates like mediaeval coats of arms covered the booths and one theme became apparent to him. The coats of arms all had a slice cut out of them with a small black and white circle swished into the Yin Yang symbol. He didn’t have to wait long to figure that out, a man with a white and black robed garment with a odd pipe looking gun and shield on his back came over to Lucas. He held pamphlets in his hand of some kind that he merrily told Lucas all about.

“Welcome organic stranger! I’m from the coalition of affiliates, here’s a pamphlet of the rules of our territories. Common hunting grounds, half way towns to trade etherial cores, public hunting grounds, Walker nests, dungeons and what not. It also goes over the current requirements of every affiliate and rules of the broader coalition and territory. Joining any affiliate in the coalition has massive benefits as well as great hunting grounds on the wild lands. Something to think about.” The man said overly happy and shoving the pamphlet into Lucas’s hands.

“Thanks I’ll think it over.” Lucas said and the man nodded running off to the next person behind him.

The coalition was one thing Lucas didn’t recall from kings memories, hell from what he remembered and it wasn’t much was affiliates hating each other. A question for another time it seemed. Lucas smiled walking past all the noise glancing around occasionally as he made his way down the long straight dirt strip, once he was far enough out he turned around looking back at the Walker nest and the small pop up city surrounding it that was buzzing with activity. A small wooden fence was surrounding the entire little shanty town with men in white and black armor that bearing different coats of arms he could chop up to security patrolling.

Other buildings popped out off the beat of the dirt road strip past the front stalls as well as small wooden huts acting as temporary headquarters for different affiliates of the coalition with banners waving from them as well. The dirt road dipped in the middle and came back up to meet the steps of the Walker Nest as then whole shanty town was nestled in between two rolling hills. One with with the Walker nest and the other with the gate he was healing towards. A white domed looking building with a pair of fairy wings on a sun carving sticking from the top, it had a very Romanesque architectural flare and stuck out like a sore thumb in the wooden shanty town crowding up to its front steps with the wooden fence hugging the two hills bringing them together.

Lucas spun back around heading toward the open gate at the far north of the single strip way at the top of the hill. Where he wanted to go was past the gate the dirt road continued to rise up on the hill covered in the blue prairie grass he recognized. Approaching the gates their was two men standing on either side with white and black armor sets like the patrolling guards. They looked me over as i tried to casually walk past them but the one on the right walked over grabbing my shoulder and spun me around. He had a long beard and rough eyes, he gave me another look up and down before speaking.

“Kid you ain’t got a lick of armor nor weapon, you sure you want to prance out into the dangers beyond?” The man asked almost in a mocking tone, I slapped his hand off my shoulder and went to speak.

“Henry let him go he wants to get himself killed it ain't our problem.” The man to the left said with a clean shave and uncaring green eyes under his helmet of cold steel.

“I think I’ll be fine. I’m just going to the field up there to relax. Didn’t have the use of my legs in the..other world.” Lucas said making his statement more palatable to the two. It was hard to explain to them he just wanted to frolic in the fields. Something he couldn’t really explain either, he just wanted to. They both glanced to each other and he let go of Lucas nodding.

“Go ahead but stay in eyesight or we can’t help you if some bandits or monsters show up.” The man called Henry said and Lucas smiled with giving a sharp nod.

Well they aren’t so bad after all just worried it seemed. Rushing out the wooden gates he pranced and up the road trailing the hill and swinging left out into the field perched on the rolling hill. He glanced down another valley that was breaking way to more rolling hills slapping into a forest in the far distance in every direction like a small haven. Plopping down on his back in the field he stared at the clouds passing by.

A memory with Shaw, Ria and Oscar came back where his dream started eerily similar and he couldn’t help but smile from ear to ear for the first time in a very long time. He didn’t need any affiliation, he had all the knowledge he needed in his head, he just had to shake it out one memory at a time. Or he hoped at least and as for time…time was something he had plenty of now, he smiled harder staring at the clouds passing by giggling maniacally like a school child getting a kiss from his crush. His mind was still in disarray and the memories were sporadic at best, with clips an bits here and there like looking through a broken window but he knew one thing for sure. One thing that brought him great amounts of joy, a feeling he hadn’t had since he was a child long ago.
