《Call of Nightmares》Chapter 4, Part 4

As he let his thoughts wander, he found Xavier behind one of the commercial buildings. There was a car parked in the gravel by the shore, and the young man was holding the passenger’s door open. He was completely immobile, as if hypnotized by what he was looking at. He hadn’t yet noticed Noah.
In the driver’s seat, an entire skeleton, fully intact. No trace of flesh or organ remained on it. It had been picked clean of everything, almost if someone had intended to make it look like a perfect bone monument. Then, even more troubling, was the corpse in the passenger’s seat: emitting a putrid odor, only the face was damaged, but it was ruined beyond recognition, almost entirely obliterated. Noah was able to make sense of the scene, having a semi-clear picture of what had transpired. The glove compartment in front of it was smeared in coagulated blood, so it stood to reason that, some time ago, someone grabbed the victim’s head and smashed it repeatedly with great strength.
Or was it what really happened? Noah surprised himself thinking.
A blinding flash. He was back in the land of the dead. For a fraction of a second, he saw the face of the girl he had killed. It then quickly shifted back to where he had been standing a moment earlier. The car was in front of him, parked like before. However, he could see the exact moment of the kill, all in slow-motion, like having a window to an in-depth analysis of the situation. In the driver’s seat, a girl, panicking, looking at the man next to her. In the other seat…
Xavier. Yet, nobody was holding his head. Only him, of his own will, an expression of shock and surprise, violently smashing his own face against the car. His nose broke first, the bones and cartilage shattered. Blood flew everywhere, some of it splashing on the woman’s face. But it didn’t stop there. It kept going, again and again; the skin tore, parts of the skeleton and the muscle now revealed. And again; the jaw fractured and dropped, the tongue loose outside the mouth, pieces of tooth falling. And again; remains of tooth and bone cut the tongue off, a hurricane of red juice flooding the vehicle. From there, he was unconscious, probably even dead. But it didn’t stop. Again, the motion happened; almost entirely crushed, an eye fell out, the other reduced to paste. And again; a hole opened in his face, a good part of the skull was annihilated. And again; parts of the brain leaked out, the head reduced to about half its original size due to the sheer amount of force created by the impact.

Another flash. Noah came back to reality. He gasped, his head spinning. He tried to find his footing but his stomach protested against the very notion of existence. His innards exploded, propelling vomit and black ooze out of his mouth. Xavier finally noticed him.
“What are you doing here?” he said, approaching him menacingly.
“The man, in the car… it’s you.”
Xavier stopped in his tracks, completely dumbfounded.
“Don’t be stupid. I’m right here. And how can you tell who that would be? The face is completely destroyed.”
“I - I saw it. I saw what happened.” Noah said, catching his breath. “His face was identical. Or maybe… maybe he was your twin?” he suggested, trying to find a logical explanation.
Xavier took a step forward, rummaging through his pockets.
“No,” Noah said, overcome by some instinct that he had been wrong. “Not a twin… That was the real Xavier. Then… who are y-”
Xavier leapt forward, a pocket knife in hand. A hint of madness in his eyes, he pushed the sharpened steel against Noah’s throat. He breathed heavily, his face distorted with rage. “I am me!” he yelled. “I am real!”

A Glass Window
This is the story of a glass window that gets installed on the façade of a train station. It's nothing serious, after all it spends most of the time just windowing there as people pass by and live their lives.
8 221The Price of Power
Payten is an outcast, harassed and bullied at every turn. However, everything changes when a powerful necromancer offers him the chance to escape his miserable life. But is he willing to pay the price for power? *On hiatus*
8 105The Order
The Order takes place within the Human-led Empire, within Glory City. In this Empire in which Magic is policed and its use is regulated, Mages are required to have a licence in order to practice Magic. The Magically inclined, Non-Human Races that have lived under Human rule lived a markedly different life to Humans, which had led to a somewhat contentious relationship. A law enforcement agency known as The Order is responsible for maintaining Magical order, and is also responsible for doling out justice to those who break the law. Consisting of the Magic using Mages, and the more technologically inclined Knights, these Agents are regarded as protectors by some, but as oppressors by many. The tale follows the exploits of Izano Zuko, a mysterious man, covered from head to toe in burn scars and wrapped in bandages. He arrives in Glory City with the backing of the City Lord, unknown abilities and secret intentions. Trouble starts up almost as soon as he arrives, and Zuko is thrown into a conflict between the Order and an unknown enemy. This is a complete book, and I plan to upload a chapter every week or so. No cover as yet.
8 70The Fountain At Trident Grove
The town of Trident Grove used to be a thriving port town. It used to be. These days the soil is full of fire ants, the bay is full of Jellyfish, the weather is unforgiving, and the citizens have secrets. Terry wanted a normal everyday life, but on the night of a full moon, he meets a mermaid and sets a string of mistakes in motion. An unending storm, murderous monsters, and death plague the town, and it's all Terry's fault. The story is a bit of a slow burn until Part 2. Any notes of inconsistencies or edits, or even reviews and ratings are greatly appreciated. Chapters update every Monday and Friday at 11 am CST. Real-time author updates can be found on my website link on my author page.
8 140Lost souls, will be rewritten soon. (Old version)
In a world where mages stand above the peasants, the nobles, and the law, it is not surprising that everyone wants to learn magic. Five siblings from a village in the middle of nowhere felt the same. Unfortunately, a dragon brought ruin to their home, eventually cornering the five blood brothers. Luz, the eldest brother, ignored the warnings of his ancestors for the sake of their survival. Using an ancient teleportation spell, he and his siblings were sucked into a portal leading to God-knows-where. In a foreign place far from home, Luz carries the burden of disobeying his ancestors and losing his younger brothers. He sets off to reunite his siblings and slay the dragon that destroyed their village while only being equipped with one useless space spell that drains all his mana after one usage. Author's note: English isn't my first language and this is the first novel I tried writing, which is why some of the earlier chapters aren't that good, even though I grew better over time. I'm still in the phase of editing a lot of my earlier chapters. But unfortunately, I haven't yet found any time for it. Daily updates are to be expected till we reach chapter 100. If your comment motivates me, I might upload up to five chapters.^^
