《Fast Food in Another World》Prologue

I have decided not to ponder over the situation I had found myself in anymore.
It was a rational decision that I have made not that long ago. Just now, actually.
For the sake of my mental health, it was clearly the right choice. Obsessing over it and feeling sorry for yourself will not help you solve anything, was what I told myself.
And yet in reality, staring down at my sticky hands, I couldn’t help but think about it.
The only source of light in this room was a single furnace at the other end of the table. Although the flames were dancing happily, it was still a bit too dim for me to actually see anything more than a silhouette of my soggy fingers. Not like I didn’t know what I would see.
“I’m sorry… I’m so, so sorry,” weak words escaped my mouth.
My fingers grasped a knife on the table. Still warm from the fresh blood, its handle felt right at home in my just as bloody palm. My hand gripped the knife tightly, as my eyes found the gory pulp on the table.
(Maybe the darkness isn’t so bad after all….. At least I can’t see that thing.)
The smell of blood was filling my nostrils and a taste in my mouth was that of metal.
Just some hours ago I was on my way home from a supermarket, but through some cruel twist of fate, my whole life turned upside down in a blink of an eye.
“No, shut up!” I heard myself say.
I have decided not to think about this situation. I have decided not to feel sorry for myself. And it wasn’t that long ago either. Just now, actually.
So why the hell was I so set on looking back to today’s events?

I have to keep looking forward. The only way for me to survive in this unfamiliar world that I was thrown into is to adopt quickly. Even if it means doing things that I wouldn’t normally do.
I felt my grip on the knife harden. If I wanted to survive, there was no other way.
“I’m sorry mister chicken, but it’s time for you to go.”
Slaughtering a chicken isn’t something I had ever done before, but once my livelihood depended on it, it turned out to be surprisingly doable. It’s crazy, the things people would do to save their life.
The only thing left was actually making something out of it.
My hand shook slightly and I put the knife back on the table. Not just my future, but my whole survival depended on my making the best dish this world had ever tasted.
Not only was I forcibly thrown into this medieval-like world, now I’m cooking for a royalty in order to not get executed. What kind of shitty luck is that?!
Oh, right. Is it too late to say that I can’t actually cook?

Earth to Rae
Rae, who has had a terrible childhood, died saving Mary -his sister from his family who saved and adopted him when he was younger- from a stalker. Afterward, a god who looked no older than a 14-year old boy, expecting his sister, appeared before him. Rae's soul is then sent into the body of a goblin vampire in a world called Altera. Now, Rae must journey through a new world that strangely resembles many fantasy worlds created through literature and video games he’s familiar with to get back to Earth and reunite with his adoptive mother and sister. Rae: Goblin? Vampire? Cursed? And what the hell is Electra's Gift?! ***Warning: first story ever. Will definitely have many errors although I will try my best to rectify them beforehand. If you have any constructive and *not* abusive criticism, then please do not hesitate to comment. Also, the prologue is a bit slow but will have a large time skip in Chapter One.***

Dying sucks. Waking up in a world filled with Aliens, Gods, and Monsters sucksx2. Learning that I'm technically still dead, well that takes the cake.
8 291The Beaumort Society
The city of Omen is on the cutting-edge of learning and science, and the things going on behind the backs of the Institute and the government, and sometimes with their approval...well, they don’t really matter. Conspirators operate just below the surface, societies clashing, fighting for their own mysterious ends. It's here that the individual known as Nemesis Jones, a self-styled private investigator, arrives, stumbling onto the doorstep of a curious bookstore called Beaumort's. He's here in search of answers, but all he seems to find is more questions - like the strange girl who arrived at Beaumort's shortly after him, and the peculiar stranger who just may have the answers he seeks. After he stumbles upon a conspiracy tied far too closely for comfort to his best friend, it's up to him and some other nosy eccentrics to unravel the mysteries of the city one by one, beginning with the murder at the Theatre Obscura. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, all of this is explicitly outlined in Nemesis' job description. [ILLUSTRATIONS BY @THEEGGGARDEN ON TWITTER] [UPDATES 13TH AND 27TH OF EVERY MONTH]

Fear. Regret. Memories. They all flashed before my eyes as my life began to fade away. I felt a darkness encroach upon my heart followed by a sinister foreboding. Within that moment I was asked a single question by a powerful, mystical being. “Brave being, do you wish to accomplish a great deed in your life?” “No,” I refused, but the voice did not listen. It summoned me to its world only to try to have me slaughtered. But then, I was saved by him, the princess who disguised herself as a man. He was hellbent on revenge, and he was determined to drag me down with him. This story is meant to be a bit of a mix of genres and cultures, so there are some elements that may seem xianxia like, but it's not exactly the same so I didn't tag it. It also has multiple lead characters but is written in first person. Schedule: Dropped Normal Chapter Length: approximately 3000 words Warning: Tagged [15+] for Strong Language and Violence (Gore and Profanity aren't very prevalent, but I added the warning tags just in case).
