《A Fourth Dimention Reality》Chapter 4: An Unlikely Happenstance

“I completely, totally, and with all of my being, hate you Cassie!” Larson tried to keep his voice down as he yelled at Cassie.
“It’s not my fault. I didn’t think I had to pee!”
They stood outside the NASA building hiding behind a large sign while Cassie struggled to contain herself.
“You’re either going to have piss on yourself or hold it in because I’m not wasting the energy to disable the cameras in here just so you can piss!”
“Can’t we just pretend we’re some interested highschoolers and ask someone who’s inside?” Cassie suggested while rocking back and forth.
“We’ll still have to disable the cameras, or do you want someone seeing us when we do something else and us getting caught and hunted down?”
“Aren't you usually the one who says that no one on Earth can even harm us?”
“Yeah, but things will go a lot easier if we can work without people on our ass.”
Cassie huffed and was slightly bouncing behind Larson. He was busy looking out to see if anyone had noticed them, while Cassie was making soft noises behind him. After a bit, Larson turned to her.
“Go piss then!”
She wasted no time and took off running. Larson sighed and returned to spotting out the building. Cassie had been pretty much right; they could just pose as some kids on a field trip and get in that way. It'd be easier, but Larson still didn’t want to have to deal with the hassle of cutting all the cameras. Was this really the best option?
Larson couldn’t think of anything else and settled for that. He turned around and saw Cassie running back to him.
“Okay, your plan is going to be our plan B,” Larson said.
“Like we have a plan A?” Cassie questioned.
“I do at the very least.”
“Then run it by me!”
“Obviously we’ll have to watch this place for a while, but I was thinking of just sneaking in here at night after everyone is gone.”
Cassie beamed, “Oh, we should do it during a holiday then!”
“Right, people will likely be gone, and or this place will close earlier.” Cassie agreed with his reasoning. “Okay, that’s good enough for right now. I say we still just come back here every so often and if the holiday thing takes too long, we just come here when they close the place.”
“When we get in here, what will we be looking for?” Cassie asked.
“Reports mostly." Larson stated, "I’m sure they have some shit they’re not sharing with the general public. We’ll use that to decide what planets we go to.”
“Bro, what if they have some info on other E.Ts?” Cassie sounded astonished at the idea.
“Then we use that, idiot. Just don’t fool around when we're in here and get your damn finger prints on the place or something.”
“Learn to have some fun Lars, it’d help you a lot and those lines on your forehead.” Said lines only got deeper as he frowned at Cassie. She then turned her back to him. “Right, I guess we’ll be coming back here tomorrow?” She tried to move on.
“Yeah,” Larson said, moving on from her past comment, “but you can’t be off from school for too long can you?” She shook her head, “fine, I’ll stay watch for a while and whenever we get the chance to watch together, we will.”

That was a good idea to Cassie and with their plan made, there was nothing more left for them today. They left and returned to their homes for the night.
…
The pair went on a rotation for the next half month and every morning, Larson dragged Cassie over to Jax. Despite this, Cassie would chicken out every time with a different excuse and eventually Larson got tired of taking her to him and told her if she didn’t do something about it soon, he’d ask someone else to do it and he wouldn’t go easy on whoever it was. Alongside that, Larson had gotten used to NASA’s security system. He planned out a route for them to take once they found the right time to break in.
At the moment, they were at lunch ready to discuss their ideas. Cassie was sitting at the lunch table with her plate full of foods that weren’t good for anyone including herself. She wiped her hands clean of the bright orange grease from the pizza she finished and now, she was currently eating a sandwich from her lunch bag.
She munched on this food while Larson told her their best odds.
“I don’t know if you can hear me over all that noise you’re making, but if this is screwed up I won’t think to leave you in a heartbeat.”
Cassie swallowed what she was eating and spoke, “you must really think I’m not in this the same way you are. Look, just because I’m not frowning and getting my big girl pants on doesn’t mean I’m not serious.”
“Could have fooled the hell out of me.” Cassie ignored that and moved her tray over to him. “Why?” was all he said.
“I’m offering you some! You don’t eat at all, at least whenever I see you, you’re not.”
“Because we don’t get hungry often.”
“I know, but we still have to eat so why not just eat anyways?”
“I eat when I have to. Nothing more.” Larson stated.
Cassie snickered, “you must eat like a salad and some water huh?” Larson grabbed her wrist right before she was about to eat something causing Cassie to drop it. Her other hand grabbed it before she complained to him. “I must be right if you thought to do that.”
He let her hand go and rested his head in his hand, “you’re so fucking annoying.”
“Thank you!” Cassie returned to eating, but stopped suddenly and looked behind Larson.
He turned his head—curious by what she was looking at—and he saw a girl smiling at them both.
Larson groaned, “what do you want?” He turned back to face Cassie again.
Cassie looked at the girl and offered her an apologetic smile.
“Uh, well, I wanted to invite you two to a party I’m throwing…” she trailed, “it’s kind of far from here so if you don’t have a ride-”
“We’re good.” Larson said cutting her off.
“B-but, you can bring each other if you want!” The girl pleaded.
Larson opened his eyes and looked at Cassie. Cassie just kept eating without saying a word. He then sighed and got up facing the girl.
“I know what kind of angle you’re trying to pull here, but I’m not interested in spilling my seed in some worthless being. Not even her.” He said pointing behind him at Cassie.
“Ew.” Cassie said to him.
The girl seemed shocked, “I-I wasn’t asking you to-”
“Really?” The girl pressed her lips together to Larson's comment, “I mean besides the fact that you always stare at me, you’ve slept with pretty much half the school. So I must be next on the list, huh?”

The girl’s mouth opened and she just took off to the door of the cafeteria. Larson scoffed and sat back down.
Cassie stared at him for a while and eventually Larson let out a groan. “I’ll gouge your eyes out if you keep staring at me like that.”
Cassie clicked her tongue, “See? Like that.”
“What are you talking about now?” He was exhausted.
“You could have declined her in a more… human way.”
Larson watched as Cassie reached for more food to put in her mouth. He sighed and spoke while putting his elbow up to rest on the table, “if I did that, then I’d be leading her on and I don’t have the slightest intention of doing that.”
“You wouldn’t be leading her on if you just said you’re not interested.”
“Yes I would. Humans always think there’s a chance for them to get one in just as long as you’re not taken. Apparently being in a relationship means shit.”
Cassie just shook her head, “speaking of which; not that I want that, but why aren’t I ‘worthy’ of your seed?” She then laughed at herself after saying that, Larson just stared at her. “Okay, I’m sorry, but I still want an answer.”
Larson sighed, “it’s pointless either way. So I told myself I’d never reproduce.” He simply stated.
“Why?”
“I just said why!” He grew agitated.
“Okay, maybe it’s pointless, but wouldn’t you want to see what a little you would look like?” She spoke happily at the idea.
“Yeah, my parents have baby pictures.”
“Boo, you’re no fun.” Larson grabbed her wrist right as she was eating again, “Ha, that won’t work twice!” He let her go faster this time and returned to sitting how he once was. “I still don’t get that. If we were kids and we were born the same as everyone else, what actually makes us different from these guys?”
“Maybe the fact that I punched a hole through a tree? Stood under fire and didn’t feel a thing? Like seriously, what are you even asking?”
“Like that, even if we’re different because we won’t die to anything they will, we’re still technically human?”
Larson couldn't fault her there, “yeah, but I'm assuming we don’t have the same functions, properties, and processes…” Larson paused, “well, mostly, since for whatever reason you still have crushes.”
“I told you, it’s more like those people are fascinating because of how unique they look.” She clarified.
“You’re weird with your crushes. You let that hinder you much like humans do.”
“Oh, or maybe some of us are more human than others!” Cassie proposed.
“…I didn’t think of that,” he admitted, “but it’s hard to say when there’s only a small bit of information on us.”
“You wanna know what we should do? We should write our own discoveries!”
“Neither of us know how to do that properly.” Cassie pouted, “No, we need someone else to write this stuff down for us.” Larson said.
“Well, I can write pretty well.”
“Doesn’t matter. You’re not a doctor in any way, so I’m just gonna keep telling you no.”
Cassie put a piece of bread in her mouth and tried to speak. “I don’t know what you’re saying, I can’t hear it with that food in your mouth.”
She smiled after he said that.
“Anyways, are you finally willing to listen to me now?” she gave him a thumbs up, “alright, the building has one door they usually leave unlocked until all the janitors are gone. They don’t leave until around nine at night, which means they’ll be in the building while we’re doing this.”
“So, we’ll have to Assassin’s Creed this?”
“What?”
“Never mind. We’ll have to sneak around?” She corrected.
“Not exactly. Those lazy ass janitors don’t clean the bottom floor until the morning. They’re only cleaning the offices and other usually occupied areas.”
“Ah, so we just have to avoid those areas.”
“Right. Most of which aren't anywhere near the places I wanna check out.”
“Okay, I got the idea.” She crumbled up a wrapper and cleaned the area of all her trash, “so, what about the time then?”
“There’s not exactly many holidays in March, so we can’t use that; but I know the schedule well enough to know what days they close early. Today’s one of those days.”
Cassie smirked and sat up straight in her seat, “then what are we waiting for! Let’s go!”
Cassie got up and Larson did as well, but as soon as she was about to leave the cafeteria, she realized something. Larson sighed at her hesitation.
“What is it now?”
“Sorry, but, it’s just a little quick thing.” She pleaded.
Larson couldn’t even begin to imagine what she was talking about, “just hurry it up!”
Cassie was unsure how long their “mission” would take, so she had to be sure nothing would happen in the event she was home late. So, she wanted to text her parents if it was okay for her to stay at Larson’s place. As Cassie texted away a convincing message, Larson just stood in front of her impatiently waiting for her to finish.
“Hey,” Larson turned around hearing the voice from behind him and there he saw their failed plan—Jax Barmen. He approached them with a soft smile, “sorry if I’m bothering you two, but I wanted to ask you guys something.”
Cassie looked up unaware of who it was and she instantly pulled her lips in her mouth when her eyes landed on him.
Jax smiled sweetly at her.
“Sure, what is it?” Larson ignored the worried presence now behind him.
The male chuckled, “you guys are really weird, but you two are like some kind of fourth dimensional creatures… right?”
Larson looked back at Cassie. Her once frightened disposition faded and was replaced with a bit of shock.
“We’re assuming… though we’re not from there.” Larson spoke carefully.
“I just didn’t know how else to call you guys.” Jax admitted.
“Can I ask how you even know that?” Cassie interjected.
“It’s actually a little strange. When I was little, my grandfather used to tell me about strange happenings he was researching.” He recalled fondly, “he used to talk all the time about this strange stuff, and there was something I remembered because I thought it was really cool. It was that you guys could disturb waves, in this case it was electrical ones.” He took out his phone, “every time you guys came by, my phone would act crazy. I put two-and-two together and I guess I was right.”
“Impressive.” Larson said.
Cassie stepped closer, “we actually tried to talk to you beforehand, but…” her voice trailed.
“Oh, it’s cool. Not like you could just walk up and tell me you have powers like this.”
Larson stepped up now, “though, we were going to ask you if your family kept any of the research your grandfather did.”
“My grandfather was an eccentric person, he never once read anything he told me out of a book. They might have kept something, but it’s not anywhere I live.” Jax explained.
“Why?”
“Because my dad never believed my Grandfather. He called it dementia,” Cassie stifled a laugh, Larson looked back at her with narrowed eyes. She looked down and kept a straight face, Larson rolled his eyes and turned his back to her as Jax went on, “he’s passed away now, but I know he didn’t have dementia or anything like that. This stuff is real!” He exclaimed.
“Do you guys have a family home or something?” Larson asked.
“Not that I know of, but I could always ask my mom. She was my dad’s highschool sweetheart so she was pretty much always a part of the family.”
“This is great!” Cassie came out and said, “if you find something we might not have to go anywhere!”
Jax gave a puzzled look, “you’re going somewhere?” Jax questioned.
“I swear you talk too much.” Larson brought his fingers between his eyes.
“No-”
“Yeah!” Cassie moved Larson out of the way and spoke, “Lars here said we might be able to find out some stuff about us at NASA since we believe they may have encountered beings like us already. Then if we’re right, this means we’d have to visit another planet.”
“That’s amazing!” Jax was overjoyed, “but, if you’re gonna do that you’ll need someone to document whatever you find.”
Cassie smiled and looked at Larson, “he’s gonna wind up helping us anyways, so can he do what you said I can’t?”
Larson looked at her, “what if he tells someone about us?”
“In your words, no one can even hurt us anyways!” Cassie recited.
Larson rolled his eyes and looked back at the male who had a vibrant smile on his face, “if you tell anyone about us I’ll kill you and them.”
“He’ll kill you, not me.” Cassie clarified.
“I wasn’t planning on it.” Jax said with a small chuckle, “I hoped to be a researcher anyways.”
“Damn, how lucky are we?” Cassie said. “You did say we needed to find someone.” She said to Larson.
“Yeah, but preferably someone older than us.”
Cassie put her hands on her hips, “age doesn’t mean shit! If he thinks he’s up to the job then we should give him a chance!” Larson sighed and said nothing. “You’ll get used to him,” Cassie turned back to Jax, “when he doesn’t say anything that’s him giving in to what I say!” Jax couldn’t help but laugh, “oh, but you don’t know our names. I’m Cassie and he’s Larson!”
“I’m Jax,” he properly introduced himself, “I’ll do what I can to help.”
Cassie smiled at him meanwhile Larson was just over her and the excitable exchange the two were having.
“Anyways, look.” Jax looked to Larson, “to prevent you from being totally useless right now, here.” Larson held out Barmen’s only bit of research.
“Is that what I think it is?”
“If you’re thinking of Barmen's research, then yes. There was one book I found deep in the archive of the local library. I couldn’t find much of anything useful in there, so maybe you’ll have better luck.”
“I can’t believe it…” Jax took the book carefully. He stared for a while as if the world around him disappeared. Then he looked up with a passionate expression, “if I had known about this, I would have already had something for you. I’ll work right away on this!”
“Good, you don’t need me to hold your hand.”
“Hey, did you have that book on you the whole time?” Cassie interrupted.
Larson sighed, “wish I could say the same for her…” he stopped himself, “anyways. We’ll probably meet up tomorrow, who knows how long this might take.”
Jax nodded, “I’ll find you guys, don’t worry. You do what you have to!”
“Don’t forget to talk to your mama!” Cassie reminded, “remember to ask her about this stuff!”
“Hurry up, let’s go, we’ve wasted enough time.” Larson took off without another word and Cassie sighed.
“We’ll talk later,”
Jax just smiled at Cassie. She then took off as well.
Now alone, Jax looked back down at the book and he couldn’t help the excitement he got seeing it. Almost like his Grandfather was back at their place telling him about his research. A surge of energy went through him as he went off to start reading.

Ars Magica
Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)
