《Fenrin's Tale - a third chronicle of the Children of the Bear》27. Frustrated

Fenrin stormed out, slamming the door behind him. His emotions cut sharply through his clouded and tired mind. All he'd wanted was to sleep but she wouldn't let him even do that. He strode across the deck, sailors clearing his way quickly, and ripped open the door of the first mate's cabin. Tryst was sitting at his little table, Echa on his lap and a bottle of their 'acquired' wine in his hand.
"I'm commandeering your cabin tonight."
One look at his captain’s stormy eyes and Tryst stood up, sliding Echa off and taking her arm, leaving the room with a slight nod. Hardly waiting for the door to close, Fenrin collapsed on the bed, asleep instantly.
He woke up as the door creaked open and there was a soft ‘Oh!’ from Nita as she realized who it was sprawled on the bunk. He rolled over. "Stop."
Nita stopped closing the door and came in at his wave. He devoured the meal she'd been carrying, the largest they'd had in weeks. After wolfing it down, he shoved the plates back and Nita carried them out, her eyebrows nearly touching her snowy hairline.
Rested and full, Fenrin's mind turned back to the night before. The frustration he'd felt at Jayln bobbed back and he grimaced. She'd been so unreasonable. He tried to keep everyone alive as she always wanted, but instead she'd snapped at him. He'd known she'd give him an earful for locking her in the cabin, but he'd handled it much less gracefully than he would have liked.
And why'd he bring up such a stupid memory! It was true, watching Anwen pound the drums had brought that lovely outing with his father to his mind, but why'd he share it?
Because she doesn't understand.
It frustrated him to no end. Communicating with anything other than a sword had never been his strong suit and now he'd even half-broken their arrangement, called it a waste of time.

Maybe it was.
He mused over the idea of leaving Jayln behind. Freeing himself from her demands and promises but frowned, he'd already set things in motion. He'd given up his inheritance for this deal and, burden that it was, it was the only thing he had. Nevertheless, he felt his wild side pulling on its chains, it hadn't answered to anyone since the Bear's death and it didn't like starting again now.
Fenrin rubbed his face, he was still a bit tired but it was an exhaustion that would take many nights of rest to fix. “Gods, I hate sea voyages,” he thought bitterly. The hunger and the days at sea had worn on him and he resolved to fix his partnership with Jayln when they landed in three days.
He glanced around at Tryst's gaudily decorated cabin and smirked. He was the captain though and that was his cabin. Fenrin would continue as normal for now but she wanted to pout about it, she could do it in below decks with the other children.
Satisfied with his decision, Fenrin stepped out of the cabin and strode to the helm, barking orders like nothing was wrong at all. The curious eyes noting his emergence from his first mate's cabins were soon just shrugs as the men carried on their work.

A Portal Fantasy Comedy Poem
Mix an adolescent shepherd boy in love with a girl who wants to meet existentialists, a Viscount in need of an adventure, and a bland psychic. Add in a flippant god. Put them in a land made up of the after-lives of various different cultures. Stir gently. Sprinkle in some random Midgard Serpent, Genghis Khan, Scheherazade, and a cussing mocking bird. Fry lightly. Season to taste and serve with desired garnishes. Bon apetit! A comic fantasy poetic epic, filled with misfits, slapstick routines, light romance, people shouting out the names of their battle skills before using them, old philosopher dudes running around naked, a very serious lamb, demonic knitting, battery operated magic swords and even more traumatising stuff! I experimented with different styles in the beginning and finally settled on an ABABBCBC rhyme scheme (Give me your 0.5s. Gimme, gimme, gimme. I'm collecting them, seriously)
