Book 2: Chapter 6: The Labyrinth

15 days! It took us 15 days to make it to the 50th floor boss! What is wrong with these two? Why are they so pathetic and weak! –Hina

“Here, boss.” –Hina

“Finally! This one should help me and Aya finally breakthrough and finish our 100,000 mana core!” –Hiro

“…” –Hina

“Don’t give us that look Hina! We are doing our best! The floors are just too hard and big, and we have to rest more often because unlike you we haven’t broken through yet!” –Aya

“I just hope once you have a breakthrough, you will be able to finish this dungeon, you are only halfway and the prizes at the end will make it worth it.” –Voarag

“…” –Hina

It seems the girl of very few words is speaking even less words to her weaker companions.

After 15 of the most embarrassing days, the heroes finally beat the magical beasts on the 11th-49th floors and got to the end of the 50th. They find themselves in an open courtyard with a big flaming bird sitting on a perch near the center. As usual, this magical beast was level 50 to correspond to the floor level, only this time the beasts rank was 9 and only a single step away from the saint rank.

“W why is this guy rank 9? How are we supposed to beat him?” –Hiro

“Oh did I forget to mention the bottlenecks on the 10th, 50th, and 100th floor? Well I shouldn’t have to explain it further now that you have seen it.” –Voarag

“But after the 10th floor, every boss afterwards as at least 6th rank! They were just strong as the Wind Wolf!” –Hiro

“You mean weak.” –Hina

“*COUGH* That just means after this floor all the monsters will be 9th rank until the 100th floor which you will most assuredly face a Saint ranked beast.” –Voarag

“Hina, you have to help us. I know you said you wouldn’t until we made a breakthrough but this is different? Any suggestions for us?” –Aya

“Don’t die.” –Hina

And with that Hina merged into the shadows as if to say. Fuck you as you are on your own.

This whole situation was mostly her fault anyways as she was not paying enough attention to the weaklings in her party. It took the team 1 day to reach the 10th floor and with Hina killing everything only another day to reach the 15th level where she finally made a breakthrough to the 100,000 mana club. It was then that she noticed how little progress the other two made, they hadn’t even reached her previous 75,000 mana level even though an entire day of fighting transpired.

It was at this time that she told them she would not help them anymore until they got stronger. Hence why it took 14 days to go through the other floors. It must be noted that, even though the floors got better, the monsters did not get any stronger from the 11th-49th floor as they were all within the 6th rank range. Only the quantity got higher.

After 14 long days where Hina did nothing but practice her skill combos and stealth techniques, they finally arrived at would only be certain doom if she doesn’t actually help. It must also be noted that the creature they were facing was a Phoenix. Fortunately it wasn’t one of the divine or ultra rare variants, just a regular Phoenix… As if they are not deadly enough.

“How are the two of us supposed to survive? My element is fire, this Phoenix is also fire!” –Hiro

“You are immune. You have light.” –Hina

“I think she is saying you should just tank him as usual and leave the rest to me since my element is Ice.” –Aya

“*NODS*” –Hina

“Well here goes nothing!” –Hiro

CHARGE! –Hiro

TAUNT! –Hiro

SHIELD BASH! –Hiro

With these three skills plus a few other minor ones just to piss him off, the Phoenix was completely fixated on Hiro momentarily forgetting the scary presence of the black dragon and the vanishing shadow.

It must also be noted that being at the peak of the 100,000 mana barrier than both Hiro and Aya were just as strong as the Phoenix and after 14 days of constant fighting and avoiding traps, they went from completely and utter trash, to veteran warriors that can almost call themselves heroes and not feel embarrassed by it.

Of in the corner a little dragon and a shadow were whispering to each other.

“Why do you not help them” –Voarag

“Too weak.” –Hina

“But what about the time limit? You have 5 days to clear the 100th floor, you must have the treasure if you want to win, even I’m not a match for the Demon King.” –Voarag

“Master of shadows, can finish at any time.” –Hina

“You are telling me you have become one with the dark and can teleport through it?” –Voarag

“Un.” –Hina

“Okay then I’ll watch their gambit, but if they don’t breakthrough here they will die you know.” –Voarag

“Peak level Phoenix, breakthrough or death here.” –Hina

“You’re right! Did not realize he was at the peak level, they have no chance unless they breakthrough.” –Voarag

While the two chatted along, or rather Voarag chatted along, one could see a bird completely on fire trying to burn a little tin can man also completely on fire, only the fire colors were slightly different but not enough to matter as their power levels were equal and neither was getting the better of the other.

Every once in awhile one might see a cold beauty radiating the most beautiful ice and striking the bird over and over causing loud screeches to happen often. Unfortunately the fires of a Phoenix are ever burning and keep coming back. Even fatal blows went away with Phoenix Rebirth. This means that it is impossible for Aya and Hiro to win on their own as the Phoenix is a creature of good and cannot be banished by either Aya or Hiro.

Of course Hina knew all this and wasn’t worried as being the wielder of balance there was no creature that could not be banished so long as she could overpower them. But a weak peak stage Phoenix isn’t even in her eyes, she could kill this bird with a simple look, which is why she wasn’t fighting at all. Hina also guessed that killing this Phoenix would make them finally reach level 200 as they just reached 199 after clearing the 50th floor. Though she didn’t know why, Hina felt that reaching level 200 was necessary as she would not be able to progress without her body breaking down without those extra 10 stat points that it granted.

She also spent some time refining her mana as she realized having a large pool was only good for throwing mana at things, a purer pool would allow for more strength with mana manipulation as well as stronger and smaller spells of the 10th level. She knew she was on to something and after refining all her mana she would be close to another breakthrough and reach the legendary Demigod realm, something no human has done for thousands of years. Of course one cannot count Nick since his body was already at peak immortal rank and his Aura was as pure as it could get as the nature of Aura doesn’t allow for impurities.

After her musings Hina noticed something different. Aya’s attacks were getting more precise and stronger as if the quality of her mana was growing even though the actual amount could not yet change. She also noticed that Hiro’s fire was starting to get smaller while still fully suppressing the Phoenix, it was at this time when a loud noise was heard.

*BOOM*

Shortly after Aya backed away and started to meditate. She was making a breakthrough in the middle of combat! After seeing this, Hiro’s eyes went from surprise to serious and then to an epiphany.

*BOOM*

“Finally!” –Hiro

At this point Hiro laughs at the Phoenix, no weak bird in front of him and went through his own breakthrough while still batting away his fire without extra though.

A few breaths of time later and Aya stands up with a cold look in her eyes that one could only associate with an Ice Queen that has slaughtered thousands of men everywhere. A true hero has finally awoken inside of her. She took one look at the desperate Phoenix and said.

“Weak.” –Aya

HOLY ICE DOMAIN! –Aya

Now normally this is a level 10 spell that can surpass many miles of space turning everything into ice with the holy attribute. But with her new control only a tiny stream of ice came out and created a cage or more specifically a bird cage that covered the Phoenix and froze it solid. She then took up her sword.

HOLY ICE SHATTER! –Aya

This is her level 10 sword technique where she moves fluidly like water and instantly appears on the other side of her target while sheathing her sword.

*CRACK*

*SHATTER*

And like glass the bird inside the cage shattered in to tiny fragments.

Then the impossible happened! A ball of fire blazed to the heavens, or would have if they weren’t underground and Phoenix Rebirth happened again only this time the bird that came out was many times larger than before, reaching a height of 25 meters! It seems the two heroes were not the only ones to have a breakthrough.

“Aya get behind me, he is now a saint level beast, I will try my new move.” –Hiro

FIRE SUPPRESSION! –Hiro

This is a level 10 fire spell that attempts to suppress and snuff out all other fire. At first it was doing nothing since Phoenix flames at the saint level are stronger than regular fires.

SOULFIRE SUPPRESSION! –Hiro

An original skill! Hiro just unlocked a new level 10 soulfire technique which was infused with the holy attribute making the power many times stronger. Even the Phoenix wasn’t strong enough and had to bow down.

“Aya now!” –Hiro

Once again Aya did her combo and funnily enough the same thing happened as before and Phoenix Rebirth was casted again!

“Pathetic!” –Hina

Hina finally tired of the game that would never end, got up and started to slowly walk to her companions.

“Hina we can’t stop it! Even after we had a breakthrough none of our abilities do anything besides piss it off? Help!” –Hiro

“Tch!” –Hina

With a look of pure disdain she walked past her two companions and got in front of the towering Phoenix.

“Die!” –Hina

DARKNESS OPPRESSION! –Hina

Then with her hand stretched out the darkest of mana came out of it and started to suck in the 25 meter tall Phoenix until nothing was left but a mana core. A Saint level mana core!

*DING*

Congratulations! You have gained a level!

You have Reach Max Level 200!You have unlocked physical constraints. You can now reach the next stage in human evolution.

“Level 200. Can finally progress.” –Hina

*SILENCE*

As Hina was standing around looking at her stats and contemplating on her new training, the other two were silent for the entire time it takes for a stick of incense to burn!

“How did you…” –Aya

“It’s Hina, I’m no longer surprised by anything she does. I’m just glad we are finally strong enough to use our ultimate abilities and I was even able to create a new one! Now nothing should stand in our way!” –Hiro

“Congratulations on your breakthrough, now no more time to play, we have 5 days to finish this dungeon and only the hardest parts remain.” –Voarag

“4 days, skip trash, only fight bosses, gather.” –Hina

“She must mean to skip all the floors once we teleport into the new ones and just kill the bosses. I guess she is strong enough to group teleport us to our destinations.” –Voarag

“Is that true Hina?” –Hiro

“Un.” –Hina

“Great! Then let’s play to finish in 4 days and use each day wisely, we know the next 49 floors will have beasts like this one if not as strong but at least at this level, so that means we will go through the next 15 floors tomorrow then 17 the next two days while resting up in between and cultivating. Then we spend the last day on the final boss and going back to the Castle.” –Hiro

“I’m okay with this plan, especially the tomorrow part.” –Aya

“Slow but fine.” –Hina

Of course Hina wanted to kill the final boss that very night and not waste time, but when she heard the words cultivation time her ears perked up and she spent the rest of the night going over her new powers and cultivating. By the 100th floor she had reached the next bottleneck though the other two didn’t seem to figure out that you needed to purify the mana to reach it and seemed to stay in the same spot only they consolidated their core and were able to fully use their abilities making their actual fighting abilities go up by a factor of 100 from when they fought the Phoenix before.

“Okay we are finally on the final floor and have two full days left, so let’s leisurely kill everything on this floor and search for treasure! Surely this floor has some!” –Hiro

“Yes! I need jewelry!” –Aya

“Stats good.” –Hina

“So as not to waste time I will use my dragon sense to tell you where the treasure is.” –Voarag

And like that the trio of heroes plus one dragon went on a final treasure hunting venture until they fought the mysterious final boss of the labyrinth.

Meanwhile Nick just completed his first and only weapon on this new world.

“I did it, finally a weapon that I can use that has no weaknesses!” –Nick

“But it just looks like a hammer made out of Orichalcum.” –Lily

“Well that is because it is just a hammer made out of Orichalcum… but look at the stats! Analyze Hammer of Doom and show stats to Lily.” –Nick

“I see I see, but how can you wield it without wasting times of mana, or Aura for your case.” –Lily

“Huh? You seen my stats and know my story, I can easily wield 20,000kg before I need to use my Aura…” –Nick

“Oh that’s right, I was thinking of myself as I would have to use mana manipulation just to wield it!” –Lily

“Well no problems, now we have two days until the fight and 3 days until the deadline is reached! I hope the heroes got stronger or I dunno what plan I’ll have to make just to use my hammer… your dad has a huge axe after all…” –Nick

“Let’s worry about that later, instead why don’t we spend these last two days fucking like bunny rabbits!” –Lily

“Yes, let’s!” –Nick

Meanwhile the treasure hunters, err um… Heroes plus one, finally looted the entire floor and found lots of phat lewt!

“Incredible, I’ve never seen anything like this. Not only did you three gain a full set of jewelry like Aya wanted, but it is all also tailored to your specific attributes, there are even hidden abilities on them that have yet to unlock! That means the gods that govern The Labyrinth are rooting for you and even want you to beat this boss as I’m sure the secrets of the jewelry will be unlocked then.” –Voarag

“Let’s go then, the boss is on the other side.” –Hiro

Full of excitement and confidence, the three finally meet the last boss and even have an entire day to spare when they are finished. Aya suggested that they celebrate and have a party at the Castle before they attack the Demon King. Hiro also in high spirits said it was a great idea. Hina shrugged and said nothing, only thing on her mind is killing all that stand in her way. Though she did blush a little knowing that Hiro is finally strong enough to protect himself a little. No one will understand what a girl will do for love after all, especially since Hina had to torture her love just to get him to this level of strength.

But what they saw when they got in the room was very shocking. Though only two of the four were shocked, but it wasn’t the two one might expect. As the magical beast in front of them was a Saint level Yin Yang Dragon. One eye black, one eye white, and the checkered pattern continued throughout the beast.

“Fuck.” –Hina

“Cousin! Oh no, they got you too!” –Voarag

“”What?”” –Hiro, Aya

“My weakness.” –Hina

“He has been corrupted by the Demons just like I was until Nick saved me. Only by defeating him and taming him is someone with level 10 light magic able to purge the corruption on him.” –Voarag

“But none of us have the taming skill, how are we going to do it?” –Hiro

“I’m not sure, the system will give you a skill if your will is strong enough and you know what it does. Taming creates a soul link between you and the magical beast, affinities are also shared when this happens which is why I’m so strong, light and dark are very hard to fuse, though it did take a week to gain and fuse with the light element. This is also why Hina felt the disturbance of one like herself. There are not many who can touch the power of yin and yang simultaneously.” –Voarag

“Well we just need to beat his ass then, he shouldn’t be any stronger than us right? He’s at the saint level!” –Aya

“Too strong.” –Hina

“What she means is. You humans have around 2,000 in each stat, well max level dragons have 5,000 though this one is only level 100 and thus isn’t that strong, though I’m not sure why. I’m sure my cousin was stronger than that.” –Voarag

“Level suppression from gods.” –Hina

“Right! He’s stuck in this labyrinth meaning his level is suppressed to level 100, but I’m sure he still has his full strength once he is freed from this place.” –Voarag

“Well how much strength does he have at level 100?” –Voarag

“Normally it wouldn’t be much, but since he is a saint beast and that hasn’t been taken away he should have 2,500 in each stat. 500 from levels and 2,000 from the saint level upgrade.” –Voarag

“But we only have 2,000 in each stat and our cores should be similar so our mana manipulation shouldn’t be so great. What are we going to do?” –Hiro

“You two distract, I must meditate, then strike.” –Hina

Hina used this time to think of a move that would knock out the dragon without killing it. She really likes dragons and plans to make this one hers since she can’t have Voarag! After a bit of watching Hiro tank and Aya freeze and seeing they made a good combo and were slowly annoying the dragon though not doing any real damage, this caused her to analyze the weakness of the dragons, and like Nick, she realized the only way to knock him out is with blunt force trauma on the back of the spine near the head.

Knowing none of her light or dark or even balance abilities will work, she thought of martial arts from her old world that would allow her to use her level 10 dagger arts while doing blunt damage. Knowing will is what creates new abilities within sub trees, she finally found one ability from an old anime that might work. This ability always bypassed defense and could be used with anything. Meaning she should be able to make a crushing blow with her dagger point if she does the ability right.

“I’m ready, lock him in place!” –Hina

Feeling full of vigor because they heard Hina say the most words ever at one time without pausing or even stuttering, Hiro used a shield bash to stun the dragon and Aya used her ice to freeze all four legs in one place. Of course they were both knocked the fuck back by its tail, their job was still successful as for at least the next few breaths, the dragon won’t be able to move from that spot.

“NOW!” –Aya

“Coming.” –Hina

SHADOW STEPS! –Hina

Then she vanished and appeared right behind the dragon pointing her dagger towards the only weak spot that was lit up in yellow.

FUTAE NO KIWAMI! –Hina (Btw, this move is real and proven to work in real life so don’t hate)

With that Hina attacked the weak spot and somehow didn’t even leave a scratch on it. A few breaths later however.

*CRASH*

*BOOM*

And the dragons head fell straight down and made a crater on the ground.

Seeing this Hina put her hand on the dragon’s head and pushed her will into it.

“BECOME MINE!” –Hina

By this point Hina used all her stat points to max out her new abilities and even learned all the spells that Hiro and Aya knew simply by understanding how they work and seeing them in use. But she didn’t understand hellfire but she knew someone who did.

“Voarag, teach me.” –Hina

“What? I don’t have anything I can teach you?” –Voarag

“Hellfire.” –Hina

“You gained that? But Kiki doesn’t have that! Doesn’t matter, here let me teach you all I know about it…” –Voarag

“Look at all we got out of this chest! A full set of armor and weapons for each of us! Mine is called Soulfire Dragon Scale armor which comes with a shield and katana made out of the same thing. It even unlocked the Soulfire Paladin set which then unlocked the hidden stats on the jewelry whose name also changed. With this my base stats double and all skills have double their effect. This makes me as strong as a demigod woot! I even got a title after equipping it!” –Hiro

“Mine is similar only it’s called the Ice Queen set and it’s made from an Ice Hydra’s hide. I got the title Ice Queen and a really cool Ninjato as well as the same bonus stats as you Hiro.” –Aya

“…” –Hina

“C’mon Hina! Tell us what you got.” –Hiro

“Mistress refuses to speak and says she got a set of Yin Yang leather armor from a Yin Yang beast, also two daggers of balance, one infused with light, the other dark. She got the title The Balancer and similar bonus.” –Kiki

With that the day ends and after resting they left the dungeon to finally start the final battle with the Demon King. But before they left they made sure to check the progress for the upcoming fight.
