《Survive The Chaos》Chapter 1: The World Evolves

Hello, Mortals, I am God.
You humans have been living in a state of constant peace and it is boring and sickening.
You have forgotten what it feels like to have true strength and so, I will help you remember.
The peaceful world that you now live in will cease to exist.
Only through struggling on the line between life and death will people truly evolve.
You humans will have the chance to become beings of absolute power.
However. since the weak needs to be eliminated, the first day will be different from the rest. You have 10 minutes, so do your best to survive.
Lance blinked a few times after the odd message played through his brain. He was just about to enjoy a nap, one of the few things that he can actually enjoy in his life, and now it was interrupted by a weird message.
Lance got out of bed and walked through his dorm to see if there was anyone else who just got that weird message.
He looked around and some people had a confused look on their face while others appeared deathly afraid.
Well, that answers my question. Maybe I should go look outside to see if there are any changes...
Lance first went to the bathroom to wash up a little. You don't know when the next time you will be able to wash your face casually with a possible apocalypse coming.
Lance then proceeded to wash his face and then he looked at himself in the mirror.
There he saw his a bit above average looks with his brown eyes and black short hair going over his forehead.
Lance didn't really have any complaints about his looks, because even though he wasn't drop dead gorgeous, he would still be called handsome here and there. Hey, it could be a lot worse...
Lance then walked outside to see if there is anything that is changed, but when he walked outside nothing appeared to be different.
"Hmm, so I'm pretty sure God is not one to bluff, especially as that is the first time anyone has even heard his voice, but I don't see anything." Lance said to himself as he was deep in thought.
Lance then remembered that God said that the human race had 10 minutes to prepare. The only problem was how was he supposed to prepare. He didn't even know what he was going to have to deal with.
He started thinking about everything he heard from God's message but he just couldn't analyze it.
How on earth was he supposed to understand how God thought. For all he knew, God could produce a disease that wipes out a certain percentage of people or just spawn random volcanoes. I rather take my chances with the volcanoes. I'm pretty sure I can outrun that.

Well, there is not much I can do but gather supplies. I should probably go back to my room for the food and water I have.
Lance then went back into the dorm and there he finally saw it. The thing he has never seen ever since he was born into this peaceful world.
A little bit of Chaos.
People were moving in a hurry, some were holding backpacks and looking for friends. Some people were having arguments about things like leadership and food. There were also people who were just stealing from others and using the panic to their advantage. But, even though people were doing different things, most of them all had the same look on their face.
That look was fear.
Looking at the situation, Lance finally realized something weird.
Just moments ago he heard a message from God himself about how the human race is going to struggle and perish and he wasn't acting afraid.
That thought alone scared Lance more than he ever felt in his entire life.
Lance realized that he himself has been too used to peace and if he kept keeping this mindset he could die.
No, he would die. God even said that the weak will be destroyed. That means that if he kept nonchalantly thinking about this situation then he would 100% die.
With that thought, Lance didn't hesitate to run to his dorm and get his backpack and start filling it with water bottles and snacks.
Lance didn't know if he was lucky or unlucky. Right now it was Saturday and he was the only one of his roommates who stayed at Campus. His roommates had gone home for the entire weekend and he wasn't supposed to see them until Monday. Now all the food in the room was his, however, he didn't have many friends because of his personality, so he was going to be alone for what ever lies ahead of him.
Lance has two roommates. He likes to think of them as the devil and the angel on his shoulder.
Kyle, one of his roommates was a hard worker and his grades were amazing. He was somewhat of a goody two shoes, especially when it came to studying. But that was only because he came from a well off family and had a reputation to uphold. Apparently, Kyle's family owns one of the leading enterprises in technology.
Derek, his other roommate, on the hand was the opposite. Lance wasn't even sure why he came to college, because all he did was party and flirt with girls. There is also the thing that money and power means more to him than anything.
That was one of the reasons why Lance always felt like a bystander. Those two would always try to pull him to their own side and tell Lance to be more like them and argue about with each other constantly.

However, even though they did this, Lance truly felt them to be the closest people he had in this life. Even more than his own family. He could only wish they would survive and meet up during whatever they about to experience.
Lance quickly gathered his things and ran out of his room where he met more chaos.
When Lance was even trying to leave his room someone ran straight into him.
"Hey, watch it!" the random guy said.
"You were the one running without looking." Lance said said as he was looking at the rude guy.
Lance knew who this person was. His name was Garrett Stryker, and even before the chaos he would act like he was king and everyone was just someone to step on.
Lance didn't even usually give these kinds of guys a second look usually, however, this time Garrett seemed to be extra obnoxious.
"What did you say!? I go where I want to go and anyone in my way has to either move or get thrashed." Garrett said a bit pissed.
Ah, these types always try to act like the tough guy. They have have to make themselves seem important or else their world will have no meaning and end. Wait, isn't the world ending anyways!? Lance thought to himself.
"Garrett, shouldn't you be going? I am pretty sure we only have a minute till we're dead." said Lance.
"Shit, I forgot. And you will probably die, but I definitely will survive and become a god." said Garrett arrogantly as he ran off.
Lance then started to move on his way outside.
He then felt something he hasn't felt in a long time. He felt his blood pumping and his heart racing.
Lance was shocked. He hasn't felt this way since he was a child. He definitely felt afraid, but the other emotion he felt was excitement.
Excited, why did he feel like that? Maybe because he probably won't feel bored anymore.
Lance then shook his head as he ran back outside. What is wrong with me? I shouldn't be thinking of this like a game.
As he was thinking, Lance heard a noise. The noise that will forever change his and everyone's life.
*ding*
Hello, Humans, its God again.
Well, I hope you're prepared. Ah, probably not, but hey, that is what surviving is.
You are never truly prepared for what is coming your way.
Try not to die, because for the next 24 hours it will be the utter Annihilation of your race.
You probably won't hear from me again, but I will be watching.
What Lance saw next was nothing he would or could ever expect. He would never forget this moment for the rest of his life.
Cracks.
Giant cracks appeared everywhere he could see. Some high in the sky, some all along the ground, some just floating feet off the ground...
Sweat started to drip from Lance's forehead as the cracks constantly appeared and the amount were far to numerous.
Then, before Lance could even think or react, the cracks started to open and grow wider. When you looked inside of them you would see a world made out of purple and it looked like the purple world inside was constantly swirling. A person would get sick just looking at it.
But more than the sickening feeling, you would get the feeling of fear. Like when someone is afraid of the dark or precisely the possible unknown lurking in the dark.
"What the absolute hell!?" Lance said to himself.
Lance then watched as what could only be described as gruesome and ugly monsters came out of those spacial distortions.
There were different kinds of monsters.
The first kind of monsters were flying abominations that came out of the cracks in the sky. They were like pterodactyls but with one eye, green feathers. Also, they are huge, like the size of a car.
What came out of the ground were what can be simply described as giant worms with teeth. Lots and lots of giant worms with teeth. They started to burrow into the ground and traveling in all sorts of directions.
Then, the last group were made up of some giant muscular monsters wearing what appeared to be animal and they wielded different weapons like hammers and spiked maces and there was also a lot of skinny monsters with long hair and scythes for fingers.
Out of all the things that could have happened during the apocalypse, Lance never imagined that monsters would spawn to end them.
It was like something out of a fantasy game which was supposed to be impossible. Just by having these monsters spawn is like saying that truly nothing is impossible in the new world.
God can literally do whatever he wants and the humans can do nothing about it. Why couldn't God just send a bunch of meteors to kill us like the dinosaurs. Maybe then they could have had a fighting chance by fleeing underground.
No, God just had to make it so that humans know that at this moment in time, they are no longer the top of the food chain.
But still...What the fuck!? When God says Annihilation, he sticks with it to the definition.

A Step Behind Death
Please share your thoughts about the story! Feedback and criticism is welcome, it'll help me improve my writing. "The final year of high school is the most difficult." This statement has never been truer for Damis, a student attending one of the many schools in the City of Sundridge. He never wanted anything more than to live a peaceful life, going so far as to avoid having large group of friends, indulging in dragged out conversations, or being involved in any other activity that requires him to invest a large amount of effort to accomplish. Instead, he poured all of his efforts into studying, dwelling in his internal monologues, and complaining about the things that annoy him to his one and only friend, Noah. Before long, he ended up as one of the best students in his class. As far as he was concerned, he was content with how he lived. But, after a confrontation with an eccentric girl named May, one of his classmates since the first year of high school, things have suddenly gotten out of hand. And as a result, his life became a lot more hectic than it used to be. Bound by a deal he could not refuse, his life as May's assistant began. At this rate, can he still spend the final days of his high school life in peace? Welcome to the life of Damis, the boy who's always A Step Behind Death. The cover art is made by friend of mine. I plan on making this novel into a webtoon once it becomes the best it can be. English isn't my first language, so expect some grammar bumps along the way.
