Arick and Jyl were once again at the corner of the village, though alone this time.

Jyl was holding her bow, a basket of arrows tipped with sand bags on the ground next to her. She put one on her bowstring, causing Arick to back away.

"You're not going to shoot those at me, are you?"

"Evade", was the response he got, immediately followed by the sharp sound of an arrow flying at him.

He quickly stepped sideways, only barely in time.

Before he could further question her teaching methods, more arrows were fired in his direction.

Though she only aimed at his limbs, he could barely keep up, being hit more and more often. As a demon his body was a bit stronger than any human, but that didn't seem to help him at all.

He had to both keep an eye on the arrows and his surroundings in order to determine how to evade. It got even more difficult when she started shortening the interval between shots.

What was she trying to accomplish with this? The whole thing frustrated Arick.

His thoughts had distracted him, and by the time he noticed an arrow was aimed at his chest.

On instinct he opened his wings and pushed off.

Hovering two meters above the ground, he wondered if she would stop now. Humans were unable to fly, so she would likely forbid him from doing so.

Instead, when he looked at her, a smile was present on her face.

And two more arrows were headed his way.

Silently cursing, he manoeuvered through the air, avoiding them with more ease than he had before. He was faster when flying after all.

Jyl kept shooting, making it more and more difficult for him to manoeuver. She trying to force him down, he realized.

Utilizing all the tricks he knew, he ducked and weaved through the waves of arrows. She was very good at this, though, forcing him into corners, pushing him down.

He grit his teeth and persevered.

About half an hour later she finally let up. Arick was spent, his wings felt sore.

"That was definitely an improvement", Jyl said, "But why did you not fly from the beginning? You are so much faster in the sky."

"Was I allowed to? Humans do not have wings after all."

She furrowed her brows. "So what? The flying beasts will not obediently sit on the ground when fighting land-bound beasts either. You have wings, use them."

Arick smiled. He really did like the way she thought.

"Now then, let us head to the forest, you have more training to do."

But he wished she would be a bit more merciful as a teacher.
