《I maxed out my Stats, so why am I still a loser?》Chapter 18 - The Wedding

{[There is no peace, without conflict.]}
“What is all this?” Elana’s eyes traced the wounded humans as they were carried into her kingdom. The rest of the refugees were just as confused as the residents of Sanctuary.
“These warriors fought and died with us." Ashner lowered his weapon and took off his jacket. The heat in the world was a massive shift from the snowy landscapes of northern Russia. "They don't have anywhere to go."
Elana tilted her head. “My sister reassured me that your world was peaceful.” Her eyes met the younger elf.
Lina's eyes were distant, the battle had ended a few minutes ago, and she was still absorbing the effects of the battle. Around them, the Russians leaned against the buildings. They were still in shock from the chaotic battle. Some of them were crying, some were moaning from their wounds, and others sat silently.
“Ashner." Elana jumped back when they entered with trucks full of supplies. Some of them were pulling boats, and others were pulling machinery and furniture. "Are these your people? What happened?"
“Ensley…” Lina murmured. “White Water…”
“White water?” Elana raised her eyebrow as Lina collapsed on her. “Lina?”
“She depleted most of her mana.” Wong paced behind Ashner. He was carrying half a dozen weapons on his back. "She just needs some rest. Well, all of us do."
“Those wounds." Elana frowned at a man with multiple bullet wounds on his stomach.
“Bullet wounds," Wong reassured her as Violet and her guardian demi-bunnies, along with dozens of dwarfs and demi-bats, circled the new group. They were keeping their distance with an air of caution.
After all, they were still humans.
“They have bunny ears.” Eugene and Evaristo were in awe after entering the demi’s world. “Where are we?”
“A planet without a name," Ashner added. "This is how I became rich, and these people are my friends. They'll make sure your people are safe from White Water."
“Da.” Eugene nodded. “Crow should learn about this.”
“And why should we trust that gun dealer with our secret?” Ashner asked.
“Crow is the leader of the Black Knights. Out of everyone here, he has the most reason to hate White Water… After what they did to him… With this world, we can destroy them entirely.”
“This world has its own problems." Ashner glanced at the demi's. Some were hiding away and rushing to their homes. "Humans are hated here."
“They don't seem to hate you." Eugene tilted his head towards Elana. In fact, some of them seem to respect you."
Elana paced forward, it was early in the morning, and she was still in her nightgown. She bowed. “I am Elana, Queen of the wood elves. I’m assuming you’re a friend of Ashner's.”
“What is she saying?” Eugene raised his eyebrow.
Right, I need to spend XP so they can understand their language.
“Menu.” The blue menu popped up, like spam on a computer. “Language Proficiency for all the Russians.”
The menu spun and, in bold letters, replied.
980 Humans.
9800 XP needed.
“Pricey, but it’s not that bad. Buy.” The menu spun.
XP:24,700
Elana waited patiently until Ashner nodded at her. She cleared her throat and tried again.
“I am Elana, Queen of the wood elves. I’m assuming you’re a friend of Ashner's.”
“You can say, he’s the enemy of my enemy… So yes, he’s my friend.”
“We don't have much knowledge with the type of wounds your people have, but we can provide food, water, and shelter for everyone else…" Elana glanced at the refugees. As she did, her ears wiggled. Curiosity held her interest. "I do have a question for Ashner… Will these people follow your example and not enslave us?"

“Enslave?” Eugene’s eyebrows raised, his gaze became insulted. “We would never enslave you.”
Elana held her tongue and studied Ashner.
"Humans from my world have no mana, with the exception of Wong and I. They can't enslave any demi's… I expect that message to be passed to every single leader." Ashner turned to Violet, who nodded along with Elana, who made a quick half-bow. "These people lost their homes in the battle we were in. If they stay in my world, they'll be hunted down and killed…"
“I see.” Elana took a step away once Gio passed into their world from the white room. “I’ll inform the other leaders.”
“Go to him.” Ashner already grasped that she wanted to smother her lover. With a smile, she dashed away and flung herself on Gio's arms.
“Can I see your megaphone?" Wong asked Eugene, who simply shrugged and handed him what he wanted.
“WE HAVE TWENTY-EIGHT WOUNDED!" Wong spoke clearly into the megaphone, scaring a few demi's in the process. "IF YOU WANT TO LEARN HOW TO BECOME A DOCTOR, THEN I WILL PERSONALLY TEACH YOU RIGHT NOW. BRING ANYONE WHO MIGHT BE INTERESTED AND HAVE THEM MEET ME IN MY MEDICAL WARD!"
Wong handed him the megaphone back. He studied Ashner. “My night’s not over yet. I’m the only surgeon here, so I’ll do my best to keep the wounded alive. I’m assuming you have to go back. Since you changed the entrance of the white room.”
“Yes, I'll need to physically fly back to America. The faster, the better." Ashner was exhausted. Risa entered the demi's world, Alex clinging on to her shoulders. He, too, had gotten wounded, with light shrapnel wounds on his legs.
“Eugene, how did you plan on leaving Russia?” Ashner asked him.
“We have a private plane. If you need to escape Russia, my men and I will guide you out.” Eugene tapped Evaristo’s shoulder. “You stay here, review what you learned from White Water, Da?”
“Of course." Evaristo walked into a crumbled building nearby. The redevelopments had started with the homes closest to the castle and the farms. But where they were now was near the farms since moving cattle between worlds and through a city only occasionally frightens them. He found an old stone seat and started typing into his computer. At the same time, he plugged in a portable computer solar panel.
“Solar panels…” Ashner tapped his chin. “Those aren’t a bad idea.”
“Let's go." Eugene urged him as the last of the refugees entered Sanctuary.
“Ashner.” Risa readied herself with her sword. “Allow me to go with you.”
Ashner studied her. She had half a dozen scrapes and wounds.
Even with the makeshift armor she wore.
“She has ears.” Eugene’s jaw dropped. “And a tail.”
So hiding their physical aspects only works on that side?
“I’m exhausted from that fight… If you are, you should stay here and rest.”
“Exhausted?” Risa smiled. “I’m not tired at all.”
She is the one that always wants to bang over and over… Where does she find the energy?
"We can use your ears… Let's go." She nodded, and Alex stood up. "Not you."
Alex’s ears drooped.
“You fought well… I need you to recover for the next battle…”
Ashner passed by him. As he did, Alex broke a smile. "Thank you… Master."
*******
“Thirty hours non-stop." Wong tossed his rubber gloves into a dumpster. Around him, fifteen volunteers had stayed up with him. They were all exhausted, but none of them had participated in the battle. "We only lost two…"

Wong stepped away from the operating table, and he slipped as his vision faded. Violet was the one who caught him. She was strong and held him up.
"Doctor Wong? Are you okay?" One of the demi-bunnies asked. They all wore masks and scrubs. Wong had made it very clear how they had to conduct themselves. He even went as far as creating a sterile room for them to operate in.
He had started with over thirty volunteers, but some quit mid-way. And others were cast out for failing to follow Wong's orders perfectly. If their hands frisked their face masks or if the acting nurse didn't count the amount of gauze being used to ensure nothing got left behind. He even yelled at one of them for panicking when one wound opened up, and blood gushed out.
“All of you did well… Everyone here is alive because of you.” The demi’s glanced at one another.
"Doctor Wong." A demi-bat spoke up. She had made her wings so small they were no larger than a dove's wingspan. "We only did what you told us to do. You're the one who saved these people."
"No… Give yourself some credit." Wong's eyes were heavy. He hadn't eaten or drank anything in hours, but it was over. "If you still want to be doctors… I'll accept every single one of you as my apprentices."
Wong’s eyes closed. He finally earned his rest.
*******
But while he rested, he only relived his past.
Wong's arms and body were smaller. He was in the first days of his adolescence, and he had finally found a foster family that wanted him. Savannah wasn't an old lady like the others he met. And she was a single woman, which meant he didn't have to fear the men becoming violent. But on top of everything, she was beautiful.
Her soft arms cuddling his body, kisses on his forehead and his cheeks. They were just a lure to make him lower his guard.
Even women can be wolves in sheep’s clothing. But unlike men, sometimes, after she bares her fangs, you don't perceive a wolf. All you appraise is a woman smiling back at you.
Wong woke up. His hand and legs were bound around his bed. Still dazed and confused, he fought, but his binds didn't budge.
"What's happening?" He asked, worried that something might've happened with Savannah.
“This is your punishment.” Savannah opened the door to his room and closed it behind her.
“Punishment?” Wong grasped something. He was shirtless and only wore his boxers. The woman in front of him wore alluring nightwear. Red and black with feminine designs that highlighted her chest and hips. It went well with her black hair and light blue eyes. “What did I do wrong?”
"You've been a bad boy lately." She had brought in a few candles and lit them individually. Once the aroma filled the room, she brought her hand to her face and smiled. "Bad boys need to be punished."
“Is this about what happened in school?” Wong asked. “The teacher kicked me out of his class because I corrected him. I swear I didn’t do anything wrong.”
"But you did." She carried one candle in her hand and mounted Wong. Her eyes were becoming more and more alluring, her heart racing and her legs shaking from anticipation. "As your foster mom… I need to punish you."
She moved the candle over Wong’s chest and tilted it sideways, letting the hot wax hit his chest.
Wong moaned and fought, but his strength was no match against his restraints and the woman on top of him.
"I don't understand…" Wong's eyes didn't find a comfortable place to settle. He eyed Savannah and observed that she wore black panties and a black bra. They were visible from the thin nightgown. "I'm sorry."
“I don’t want you to be sorry.” Savannah’s mouth kissed Wong’s cheek, then his neck, and she went down, lower and lower. “I want you to learn from your mistake.”
Confused, Wong glanced around the room. Unable to grasp what was happening. He only had one thing on his mind. One emotion, one silent yet still voice. It echoed one thing.
I don’t want this.
"Stop… Please." He begged. But Savannah didn't stop. The more he fought, the more she kissed and indulged in her lust. Until her hands pulled his boxers down. “I don’t want this…”
"You're a little liar." Savannah's hands came to her face, and she smiled. "Your toy is being honest."
Wong studied his naked body. He was hard, but he didn’t want this. So why? Why was his own body betraying him?
Savannah slid down and sucked. Wong moaned, and his eyes watered, and he was confused and scared. His body was in the hands of someone else. But one thing kept ripping through his body, like a scar that only tore through his soul more and more.
I don’t want this.
She licked up, from his manhood to his chest, and lastly, she kissed him.
It was an empty kiss.
All one-sided.
"What's wrong?" She asked with a lust-filled voice. "Don't you think I'm pretty?"
“You’re very pretty… I just don’t want this… I don’t understand… Are you raping me?”
"Hush, little boy." Savannah grabbed his junk and moved her panties aside, sliding it inside her. Once she did, her face lit up with a devious smile. "After all, girls can't rape boys."
Those words dug into Wong deeply. But he shook them off after a few thrusts. He was exceptionally intelligent, and he didn't want this. Just because Savannah was beautiful didn't mean this was right or something that he wanted. He fought, but the restraints held him in place.
“You’re still fighting me?” Savannah’s voice became distant and disappointed. “After we agreed to do this.”
“No.” Wong’s eyes sharpened. “Let me go.”
Her finger ran across his face. "I picked you because you're just my type… Most girls want older men… I don't… Because of the helpless look on your face while you try to fight back… Nothing is more orgasmic than that…"
"STOP!" Wong bared his fangs.
Savannah's eyes sharpened, and her hands wrapped around Wong's neck, cutting his airflow. "You're lucky enough to fuck me… So stop arguing… Be a good boy… Fight back all you want but don't say a word… Just squirm and moan for your big sister…"
Wong's body reacted to her words, he was hard, and now her juices were running down his leg. His body shook as her fingers dug deep into his throat. But before he fought back, she whispered into his ear.
“No one is ever going to believe you…”
Those were the words that cut into the young man's body. He stopped fighting back and rationalized something… She was right… Someone as beautiful as Savannah didn't need to take any man by force. Just by waving her finger, a legion of men would bow at her feet… But why did it have to be him? Why go after him?
Wong's eyes watered. As they did, Savannah moaned and squirted. She kissed Wong as her body spasmed and whispered. “You’re mine… Forever…”
*******
Wong opened his eyes. The world outside was dark, but the sun was rising on the horizon. He glanced at his wrists. He wasn't bound.
“Ever since I walked into the forest of fear, I keep dreaming about her…” Wong sighed. “Savannah… You bitch…”
"Wong." From underneath the blankets, Violet poked her head out. She had been cuddling him, but he hadn't caught on. She was naked under the bedsheets, and so was he. "Good morning."
“Who said you could strip me? And who gave you permission to sleep naked next to me?” His eyes flared.
Violet’s bunny ears came down. “I wasn’t… But you were crying in your sleep… I wanted to comfort you…”
"Crying?" Wong brought his hand up to his eye. And sure enough, he had teardrops, and they had gone down his cheeks.
"You kept saying 'I don't want this.'" Violet continued and glanced away, ashamed that he had ridiculed her. She was hoping for the opposite. “Every time I held you, your voice lessened.”
Wong studied the bunny girl. She was beautiful in her own right. Her body was fit, and she was alluring in every way. But after that night with Savannah, he hadn't let anyone hug or kiss him without his permission.
"Restrain yourself," Wong warned. "You wanted to use me when we first met, so don't get upset if I'm not interested in the comforts you offer."
"I'm sorry…" Violet crossed her legs closer. "I'm not good with men since we only had a few… I have to be strong, but when I'm here… Naked with you… I love that you let me be weak… You're so strong… That's what I want… From a lover…"
Wong didn't say a word. Instead, he was debating what she had planned. Was she going to betray him? Maybe betray the rest of the group?
“Wong.” Her hand fondled his chest. “You can trust me.”
Wong gripped her wrist and moved it away from his chest slowly. "No, I can't…"
“You trust that elf and demi-cat more than you trust me… And we’ve had sex dozens of times… What does it take to win your heart?”
Wong stopped and debated that question. But no answers came to mind. In his own way, he was broken. But unlike Ashner, his pain was hidden deep inside, not destroyed by the words of others.
“I know something hurt you long ago… Every night you’re in pain… And I’ve heard you whisper her name from time to time… Savannah… What did she do to you?”
“She…” Wong’s voice faltered as he recalled her. “She… She’s the reason I can never trust a woman with my heart… And also the reason I have to always be in control when I’m having sex… Because the moment I lose that control… I’m admitting to myself that she won… That I truly belong to her… We should stop having sex… All I do is belittle and insult you… Find a better man…”
Violet jumped Wong, hugging him tightly. Her chest was pressing against his. Her body was warm and soft but hard around her stomach. "No… You may not see it… But you're exactly what I want in a partner… I’m expected to be the strongest demi-bunny… To never let myself show weakness… Not for a second… With you… I’m free… So don’t ever hold back with me… If you need to scream, to dominate, or to force me to be your sex toy… Then do it… Make yourself love me through my obedience… Color me in white anytime… Anywhere… Control me… Dominate me… Fuck me… And I promise… I’ll heal the pain you have inside…”
In Wong’s mind, an echo that only he tuned into rang out once more. But it was a bit different.
I do want this.
He studied Violet, truly took in her eyes and her beauty. His body burned, and he got hard. She smiled when it rubbed against her leg.
Wong gripped her hips and glared at her. “Just know… You can always say no… And I’ll stop…”
Violet's hands came up to her face, just like Savannah did… But she didn't have a gaze of domination. She had one of submission. One happy just to be near him. She nodded and asked.
“Can I kiss you?”
“You can…”
*******
“Are you sure this will work?" A small demi-bat girl held a glass vial. Inside it was an herb and a small stone. She glanced up at a few dwarfs, elves, and demi-flamingos, along with a few demi-bunnies.
“It’ll work.” The tall elf spoke. “As long as you drink it when the time is right, we’ll send a clear message across Sanctuary.”
“What message is that?”
“That we won’t ever forgive humanity… But it will cost you your life.”
“That’s a small price to pay.” The demi-bat wrapped the vial around a leather necklace she had around her neck. “I’ll be the first stone that’s cast…”
*******
“Is this necessary?" Elana tilted her head towards Gio. Her belly had started to grow, and she now wore her hair in braids. All pregnant elven women did so.
“Of course it is.” Gio smiled as he studied the maid uniforms he personally bought. “These girls are your retainers, so it's only natural to have them dress up for it."
Elana sighed but smiled. “Do you ladies enjoy the outfits?”
The elven women nodded. Some commented on its quality and comfort. Completely satisfied with it.
“Gio, you will rule alongside me soon… So we can make decisions like these together.”
The maids bowed and took their leave, all except two. Gio had gone as far as getting them straps that wrap around their thighs and hold several daggers, medicine, and even poisons. The elven women were trained to kill. But serving the queen was one of the highest honors a female warrior can have, likewise, for the male elves. Unfortunately, the male royal guard were almost all wiped out in the war.
“Ruling isn't my thing." Gio stretched with his arms up high. "Leave that to Ashner or Wong. Those two can handle all that drama. I, for one… Have other plans."
Elana clung on to Gio’s arm. His strong arm between her chest. Sometimes she was no different than a young teen girl, overwhelmed with happiness that she finally got to date her school crush.
“It’s been three months since you brought those humans over.” Elana clung to him, her eyes large with love. “You serve an important role in Sanctuary. Even if you don’t realize it yourself. You’re already a leader that is worthy of being followed.”
“I'm not that great, babe. I'm just the guy that carries the large gun." Gio held Elana's hand tightly. She was everything he wanted and more.
“Have you decided who you're going to marry?" She asked, which earned a groan from Gio. "You put a baby in my belly… It's your responsibility to raise your value… Ashner already did it with his women… And Wong has so many demi's after him he's gotten tired of being nice to them… Last week he just about made one elf cry… Yet you, you're distant from everyone… As if your heart belongs just to me."
“That’s because it does.”
“Gio." Elana sighed heavily, this time taking a step back. Her eyes were conflicted, like she got what she wanted, but then again, she didn't. "Find someone else… Please… I can’t call off the wedding…”
“Elana…”
“It’s my decision… Until you decide who you want… I won’t allow you into my bedroom…”
“Okay, now you’re going too far.”
Elana shook her head. “You confuse me… But I love you deeply… I’m sure others will… If you let them… Tomorrow we'll unite under the moonlight, and our hands will unite in the flesh, then once more when we walk across the Eternal Forest…”
Elana paced away from Gio. Leaving him conflicted. He was a man, and yes, he desired multiple women in the past, but when he met the elven queen, all that shifted. Even so, he had to embrace the traditions from this world, or he would lose her.
“She's offering me a paradise, and I don't want it… I’m such a loser…” Gio giggled to himself.
*******
“How are the farms?" Ashner paced across the city. In the last three months, the extra manpower had come in handy. Behind him walked the leader of the demi-bunnies, Violet. The leader of the dwarfs, Kabu. And the leader of the demi-flamingos, Devlin.
Despite all the changes, Ashner found himself being followed by the leaders of all the groups. They often asked him to bring specific materials and items from his world. Ashner was starting to find them clingy.
“The farms have expanded. Currently, my demi-bunnies control eighty percent of the farms. The others are being worked on by humans and one for the demi-flamingos." Violet urged as they passed a wooden selling booth. A demi-bat child was selling carved miniatures and cut firewood. Ashner stopped and studied his works. The moment he stopped there, the demi-bats wings opened slightly. "We're currently low on fertilizer, and my people are asking for more harvesting mounts."
“Harvesting mounts?” Ashner raised his eyebrow.
“The things that help us reap and harvest faster. Some of my people figured out how to use them, and it's increased our harvesting speed by at least tenfold." Violet stopped and studied the booth with Ashner. Behind her was Melissa, with a clipboard, she was armed with an M4, but she wasn't wearing any body armor.
“Those things are very expensive and harder to transport into this world. We're still trying to bring in cattle." Ashner studied the city. From the corner of his eye, he observed a few demi-children. They got a glimpse of Ashner and ran into an alley. "Maintaining them is even harder. Your people won't know what to do when they break down."
“That won’t be an issue.” Violet smiled. “I talked to a few humans that you brought into our world. One of them fixed the metal mount, so I’m requesting your permission to have him help us whenever that happens again.”
“I'm not in charge of those people." Ashner studied the figurines. One was obviously a demi-bat, another was an elf, and three were human, with military-grade armor and weapons. Ashner smirked at the figure.
“Your figure sells out quickly." The demi-bat interrupted. His wings were half open. Like he was expecting Ashner to be mad. "If you disapprove…"
“No." Ashner shook his head. "I'm impressed with your work. How much?"
“Three gold pieces.” The boy answered quickly.
“Very well.” Ashner gave him three and took the figure with him.
“We're low on steel, everything you've given us has been extremely helpful, but we need a lot more to reinforce the kingdom."
“My people need more knitting materials. We've run through most of the leather you brought us." Devlin interrupted.
Everyone wants something… Yet they can’t see beyond that…
“Where are your parents?” Ashner asked the demi-bat, who glanced up at him after counting the coins.
“A rock-worm killed them.” The boy spoke plainly.
“Who's taking care of you?" Ashner asked again, but he studied a sleeping tent and odd pieces of wood laying around behind the booth.
“No one…” The boy raised his eyebrow.
“Ashner?" Melissa studied his face, he wasn't reacting much, but he was upset.
“Tomorrow night, Gio and Elana are getting married. That'll be the best time to address your problems instead of out in the street."
The three leaders stopped, and they each bowed. Then one by one, they left. Like children turned away for being pests.
“You’re going to address the orphans?” Melissa studied the leaders as they returned to their sections of the city.
“Yes, I understand that this world is primitive, so suggesting a proper home for every lost child might sound unreasonable for them.”
“Then dangle something they all want in front of them.” She teased with a cute smile.
“What are you suggesting?”
“You're not a king or a general, but every demi comes to you when they want something. It's time you take advantage of your position." She put her notebook in her bag, which clung to her left side. "Make it a challenge between them, and offer their race a specific reward if they do whatever you want… Say create an orphanage for the children."
“Will that work? It makes me feel like I’m manipulating them.”
“Think of it as a favor for a favor. You may not realize it, but we're bringing our culture and our moral compass into this world, and likewise, you're accepting some of theirs. For instance, the demi slaves you have. It bothered me at first, but I kept my mouth shut since you were so kind to me."
“Ashner! Melissa!” A busty elf half-jogged towards them. Lina was wearing tight jeans and a white top that highlighted her chest.
“Good morning Lina," Melissa said right before Lina kissed her lips, then she leaned in and kissed Ashner's lips.
“Did you bring it?” Lina turned towards Ashner with bright eyes.
Ashner reached into his backpack and brought out an officer's book. It was made for infantry LTs. With the most basic and advanced battle techniques modern-day warfare had to offer. But to someone in this world, it was a powerful tool for war.
Lina opened the book and smiled before she bowed. “Thank you.”
“Why did you want that?” Ashner asked as he zipped up his backpack.
“The battle we had in Russia… You want to use my power… So I need to be prepared for anything… Next time I’ll make sure none of us get hurt… Alex wouldn’t have…”
“Don't blame yourself for what happens in the field." Ashner put his hand on her shoulder. "War is chaos. Trying to make sense of it will only drive you crazy…"
“If you say so…” Lina paced away from the two. “Before I forget, my sister wanted me to pass a message along. The Ballroom is finished and furnished.”
Melissa squeaked happily then her puppy eyes landed on Ashner.
“You want us to dance?”
She nodded.
*******
Ashner wore a black cotton suit laced with a dark blue under-layer and a cashmere overcoat with large buttons that stopped at his chest. He even went out of his way to get his haircut and styled in his world, with gel to keep his hair back and smooth.
He made it a habit to avoid eye contact with strangers, a side effect of his past crime. But dozens of eyes followed him nonetheless.
Eyes filled with desire, and some filled with lust.
Melissa smiled and clung to his arm, both claiming her prize and enjoying his presence.
As for the blonde, she wore a tight velvet dress that exposed her arms, nape and was cut around her leg. Wrapped around her arms was the scarf Ashner bought her. It matched her dress. Underneath, she wore tan stockings to hide her scars.
She was cute, but with her make-up and red lipstick, Ashner found her alluring. He fought his own desire of ripping the cut around her leg more and taking her in a dark alley.
“This place is amazing.” Melissa giggled and spun around the interior of the Ballroom. "It's just how I imagined one would look."
The building was designed in a circular fashion, except for the elevated altar with half a dozen large steps. At the top, the dwarfs created a carved arch with ancient dwarven, elven, and all demi-beast languages.
Each a blessing for Elana and Gio.
The center of the room was scattered with chairs brought from Ashner's world. And away from the dance floor lay more seats for all the guests. The room itself was about as large as a professional basketball court, including the seats.
“What's that?" Melissa grabbed Ashner's arm and pointed at the ceiling. Someone had drawn dozens of faces from all the demi-races living in Sanctuary, along with the castle and even the armored Stryker Ashner had brought into their world.
“That’s my work.” A young boy answered. Ashner and Melissa glanced down at a demi-bat teenager with dried paint on his fingers and face. He was frail and slender with dark eyes. “My name is Julio.”
The demi-bat bowed, and his eyes landed on Ashner with curiosity. "Is it true you killed a Wyvern? And that you conquered a slime and hell-hound dungeon?"
Ashner observed the teenager, he was at that age where a teen starts to look like a man, but he was trying to hide his excitement. Something Ashner wasn’t used to.
“It’s true.” Risa interrupted. She was wearing a taffeta dress. It was made with white and black fabric with belts wrapping around her slim figure. Exposing her slim stomach, and it was designed with a flower petal pattern going down one leg. The dress did its job in highlighting her features. Underneath the dress, she wore black stockings and daring underwear. She was short and fit. On occasion, when she stretched, Ashner had caught that she had abs, but they were not very defined. "Ashner, the broken. Slayer of a Wyvern, conqueror of two dungeons, savior of the elves, the dwarfs, the demi-bats, the demi-flamingos, the demi-bunnies, demi-foxes, and savior of the last black neku…"
The artist’s eyes lit up. “You’re amazing.”
“I am?” Ashner scratched the back of his head, conflicted on how he should take the compliment.
“I also heard you’ve been using your power to heal demi’s with night terrors.”
“It's called PTSD. Yeah, I've been gathering XP from the demi's that decided to become my slaves. So I've used the XP they gave me to heal anyone I can."
“PTSD?” Julio didn't grasp what he meant, but his eyes lit up. “Can I draw you?”
“Do whatever you want.” Ashner glanced around, evaluating the doors of the Ballroom.
“I'll do that." The demi-bat bowed and studied Ashner's face and body, checking out every inch of him. Once he was satisfied, he bowed and took his leave.
Risa glanced around, and he studied her dress.
“You look amazing," Melissa commented.
“That's because you chose this dress for me… I'm a warrior. Dresses are not for me." Risa sighed. She held onto her sword, which was hanging on her side. "This dress isn't made for combat."
“You’re not here to fight.” Melissa hugged her and whispered in her ear. “I’m going to have my way with you later tonight.”
Risa blushed and glanced down. “… If that’s what you want…” She submitted, the pink part of her ears turned red.
“Don’t you think she looks dreamy, Ashner?” Melissa spun her towards him. Risa’s face now turned red.
Ashner checked her out but didn't say a word.
“Am I… Beautiful to you?" Risa managed her words out. Even after all the nights they had together, she stuttered her words and wanted to be reassured by the man she loves.
“You’re captivating." Ashner smiled, and Risa dug her head into Melissa's shoulder, bringing her ears down.
Melissa laughed and clung on to the demi-cat.
“There you are." Lina walked towards the group. Her beauty captivated everyone around them. She wore a green dress that hugged every one of her curves, with a loose green and gold belt that hung off the girl's hips. Her busty chest was covered by fabric shaped like leaves. It was strapless, leaving the top of her chest exposed.
Ashner’s face turned red.
Melissa was alluring, Risa was captivating, and Lina was seductive.
“So hot!" Melissa rushed up towards Lina, who quickly kissed her lips. Risa glared away from the group, pawing her own chest.
“Are you feeling insecure?" Lina tilted her head towards the demi-cat, who was obviously jealous.
“No.” She lied.
“You have your own charms." Lina gracefully paced towards her and kissed her lips. Risa immediately calmed down. Her insecurities faded, and her mind calmed down.
“Gio isn't going to be the only one getting lucky tonight," Lina smirked and checked out Ashner. "I prefer the side of you that walks with his head held up high."
Ashner smiled.
“By the way, who's the sexiest of us three?" Melissa arched her back and gave him a peace sign. She was obviously fishing for a compliment. Lina's hand went up to her hair, she pushed a few stubborn strands away from her face, and Risa cocooned into herself.
“You three each have your own charms. Asking me to pick who I like most isn't going to end well for anyone." Ashner glanced back at the main entrance. Elves in maid and butler outfits walked in, welcoming the guests. "But I care for you three more than any girl I've ever known. And I'll ravish the three of you together tonight… Just don't take off your dresses. I want to do that.”
Melissa bit her finger, Lina smiled, and Risa blushed.
Melissa leaned towards Lina and kissed her again. The elf wasn't having it. She kissed her back more passionately. The two were fighting for control, each submitting and dominating the other.
“I’m going to pin you down in the bedroom.” Melissa teased.
“That’s if I let you.” Lina winked.
Ashner glanced at Risa, whose eyes were on him. "You're the strongest of the girls. I've never seen you dominate those two… Not even once…"
Lina and Melissa studied the short demi-cat. If she wanted to, Risa had the strength to pin down the other girls and have her way with them. But she never did that.
“I'm not good at that… I enjoy submitting more than I will ever enjoy dominating someone… Even if you order me to dominate you… I prefer to obey…"
The girls giggled.
“Ashner." Alex walked towards the group. He wore a polyester suit and a brown tie that matched his dress shoes. He was still as short as Risa, and most eyes were on him. Even without using his power, he was appealing to the eyes. Like the lead singer of a boy band. "Eugene and Evaristo are here."
“Why are they here?” Lina raised her eyebrow as the two walked in.
"Gio invited them to his wedding.” Ashner had brought them over. Both of the men were ecstatic. The thrill of an adventure in another world captivates just about everyone.
“Ashner." Eugene smiled and hugged Ashner tightly. He was strong and almost lifted Ashner off the ground. "It's a happy day, da?"
“Yes, it is." Ashner adjusted his suit and observed a familiar demi-bat. Caitlin stood in the distance with an angry gaze.
She wore a tight black top, ripped around its sleeves and shoulders. Around her arms, she wore cut arm sleeves. Stripped in red and black. It was similar to emo attire. But it held a level of elegance. Most of the demi-bats wore outfits like that.
The elves chose light colors with thin clothes. Most of the women didn't wear underwear, and their thin figures and chests were easily highlighted. They left men and women in awe at their beauty.
Dwarfs wore copper and steel around their arms and legs. Nothing they had on would be effective in combat, but it was beautiful. They took pride in creating designs on their breastplates, from dragons to odd creatures.
The demi-bunnies had no real sense of fashion. They were a mix of bright and light colors, with thin and thick fabrics stitched together. But all the girls wore thin ornaments on their ears. Some even going as far as piercing their ears with one or multiple earrings. But all of them had designs across their skin, elaborate and painted with black, blue, and gray ink. They went down their arms and ended on one finger. Some of the designs were circular, and others were square. All of them were basic and all unique to the demi.
The demi-foxes were all cloaked. The men had scarves wrapped around their faces, only allowing their eyes and portions of their hair to be visible. The woman wore white, black, and red cloaks. Similar to shrine maidens, except their clothes were a single color.
A few Russians also joined, each wearing cheap overcoats and dress pants.
And lastly, the demi-flamingos. Their sense of fashion was similar to the Victorian era. The women had over-exaggerated dresses, and the men wore suits and top hats. But they avoided darker colors. And instead chose to go with baby blue, maroon, lime green, and amber outfits. Out of all the demi's, their clothing was the most elaborate and well made.
Each fraction, except the Russians, brought a small handful of guards. They were also well-dressed. This was a formal event, after all.
Evaristo nodded at Ashner, then found his seat. Lately, he had been distant with Ashner, but he no longer belittled or talked bad about him behind his back. He had personally proven to himself that Ashner was innocent, and guilt made him silent around him.
“If you excuse me." Eugene stepped away from Ashner and joined his Russian friends, who happily hugged him before making it to their table.
“Everyone's here." Wong found his group. He wore a dark blue cotton suit with a dark blue tie. His hair, as always, was well combed, and he wore glossy dress shoes. Next to him, clinging to his arm, was Violet with a big smile on her face. And a dress that revealed more of her body than her regular outfit, she gladly showed some under-boob and her legs.
Gio walked with them. He wore a well-tailored suit. It was old and had buttons going down his chest.
“That suit.” Ashner raised his eyebrow.
“It's the same one my dad wore when he married my mom… I wish I knew what happened to her. After the hell my dad put us through, she left… Not that I blame her." Gio shook his head. "Her loss…"
Wong put his hand on Gio's back, and the crowd turned towards the man of the hour. "We’re here… Don’t forget that.”
Gio smiled and shook away his negative emotions.
“It's Gio!" A childish tone echoed. Ashner focused on a few children. They were well dressed in clothes from his world. Each one cheered, and Gio waved at them happily.
Soon the rest of the crowd started clapping and cheering. Gio waved at all of them and paced up towards the altar. Each step had chairs, and to his right, Elana's handmaidens bowed, one by one as Gio stepped past them.
The guests took their seats. Ashner and his girls sat on one of the closer tables. Wong and Ashner waved the girls goodbye and took their stand next to Gio as his groomsmen.
Then, a few elves sang. The Russians had modified the Ballroom. They had purposely put speakers up. Even went as far as teaching the elves how to use it.
Elana entered the dance hall. She wore a white and green wedding dress. It was corseted around her back, with loose sleeves around her forearms. They were made of the same material as her dress and dragged to the ground. The dress itself dragged a good five feet behind her.
Gio’s eyes widened.
Elana took her first steps in. Her face wasn't veiled. Instead, she had two crowns on her head. The dress did nothing to hide her alluring body. She was desirable and perfect for Gio.
She took her steps, as she did, her handmaidens bowed.
Ezazle smiled at his queen as she made it to the top of the altar. He was a royal guard that served her father. But he himself never fought alongside him. Instead, the former king tasked him with protecting Elana, which he had done up until that moment. He wore a black suit, which was different from the rest of the elves.
"My queen." Ezazle smiled at her then glanced at the crowd. He had his own microphone, the elves stopped singing, and he took the stage.
"For the first time in years. Humans, elves, dwarfs, and demi's of different clans sit down together in harmony… We've created a paradise for ourselves… One that all of us should be proud of… The resources of humanity, the creativity of demi-flamingos, the strength and crafting skills of the dwarfs, the agriculture skills of the demi-bunnies, the watchful eyes of the demi-bats, the merchant innovation of the demi-foxes, and the knowledge of the elves all united in Sanctuary, in our home… But it doesn't end there… Today we celebrate the union of our queen Elana and a man who isn't just brave. He's humble and kind. A man who our late king would've been proud to call his son… A human that holds all our hearts… Gio…"
Ashner adjusted his stance. He glanced at Gio then at the crowd. They were delighted. Especially the women.
“We desire to continue seeking out and finding our lost neighbors, and bringing them to a kingdom that encourages unity and safety… I am honored to unite these two in the moonlight of the Illustrious God. Not the monsters of the Dead God and not even the war that destroyed our world stopped love from emerging." Ezazle held out his hand. In it was a small red seed. He soothed his mana into it, and it bloomed quickly into a single leaf, which Elana took from his hand. She placed it on her lips and leaned in towards Gio. Kissing him, with the leaf between them. As she did, the leaf changed, and a shock ran across both of their bodies. The leaf withered and faded away. Once that happened, the elves and demi's around them cheered. "Now, two are one."
Elana smiled as the cheers continued. She leaned in and put the second crown on Gio’s head. Then she whispered. "Now that I belong to you, fulfill your duty as the new king of the Elves… Find and marry whoever shakes your heart as much as I do."
Gio smiled and kissed her lips. Then he stepped back and made a signal with his hand.
Alex smiled and gracefully walked up the steps. He was carrying a small elaborate box with him.
Elana and Ezazle inspected it curiously.
Gio grabbed the microphone and pulled out two rings from it. Once he grabbed them, Alex turned, returning to his seat.
"Alex… Where are you going?" Gio asked. Alex stopped and glanced back, a bit confused. "I need my groomsmen to stand with me."
“But… I’m unworthy…” Alex’s ears dropped down.
Gio shook his head. "Stand where you belong, next to my best friends…"
Alex's ears shot up, and his eyes shifted like an excited puppy. He gladly stepped up and stood next to Wong with a massive smile on his face.
Elana smiled at Gio's decision.
"In my world, when a man and a woman marry, we give each other a ring." Gio handed her one with a diamond. It was simple but amusing to the elven queen. “With the ring, we give each other a vow…"
Gio smiled. "I vow to always stand by your side, through days of peace and days filled with violence. I vow to always live up to your expectations and to protect you and our child… Until the end of our lives… From now until the end of time, I vow to always love you with all my heart, all my mind, and all my soul… Elana… I love you more than Rem…”
Elana and the demi's were not aware of the concept of wedding vows. They glanced around, but they were amused. Gio put the ring on her finger, and she studied it with a childish smile.
Elana grabbed Gio's ring and put it on his finger. She wasn't certain which one, so Gio guided her. "If I need to make a vow to prove my love to you, then so be it… Gio, I vow to you, not as a queen but as a woman, to always cherish you. To hold you on cold nights and to wipe your brow on scorching days… I will never betray or abandon you… My body and soul are yours… If I were to ever break these vows, I'd willingly give myself to the Dead God to be devoured…"
Gio kissed her. And the two embraced each other.
Gio and Elana were brought seats, a table, and food. They stayed on top of the stairs and gazed down at their subjects as they enjoyed the fresh steak, vegetables, and mashed potatoes. All food the locals in this world managed to make.
Lina, Risa, and Melissa made their way up the stairs and joined the guys.
Melissa handed the queen a wrapped gift.
“What’s this?” Elana rubbed it, having never fiddled with present wrapping paper.
“It's tradition to give a gift to the bride and groom." Gio grabbed the gift and opened it up. Elana's eyes widened when he tore the present paper. Inside the gift was a small baby blanket. Gio smiled.
“Thank you.” He hugged her tightly. Elana also bowed.
Wong stepped up next and handed Gio a present he had tucked between his pants. “Here, this is from me.”
Gio opened it and smirked. “Classy.” The gift was a small Rem figurine, except she was wearing a wedding dress.
“It's to remind you what you gave up." Wong teased, but Gio only smiled brighter.
The group turned to Ashner, who had completely forgotten about the gift. His eyes told the story.
“I can give you the gift of mana.” Ashner sighed, rationalizing that he was just giving him whatever came to his mind at that second.
“You can unlock mana?” Elana’s eyes widened. “That’s incredible.”
“Yes, but it costs a lot of XP… Gio, do you accept?"
“Does Rem look good in a dress?”
“Yes?” Ashner raised his eyebrow. “Menu, spend XP, buy Gio his own Mana pool.”
The menu popped up and spun.
XP:22,000
Gio focused on his hands as his body changed. Then he ripped fire into the world with one hand. On the other, he pulsed electricity.
Unlike Ashner and Wong, he didn't collapse from using his power.
"You're proficient with mana manipulation... As expected." Elana held her head up proudly.
Gio's face became distant. "Even with magic, it seems my only purpose is to destroy."
Gio shrugged his own comment off and hugged Ashner. "Thanks, buddy… I'm so glad you were here for this."
The demi's glanced away. They hadn't brought any gifts.
Alex stepped forward. "I'm sorry I didn't get you anything."
“It's okay. A gift isn't mandatory." Gio reassured him.
“No… I need to offer you something…”
Gio glanced at Elana, who nodded. They had discussed this beforehand.
“Alex, Elana, and I discussed something important. And a lot of people and names came up, but ultimately we decided on you…"
One of Alex's ears came down, and one went up.
“In my world, if both parents of a child die. Someone has to stand up and take care of that child." Risa and Lina tuned in. In this world, orphans were always ignored. Most of them didn't make it to adulthood. "If you accept, I would love it if you became the Godfather of my future child."
“Me?” Alex glanced at the group. “Why me?”
“Because Wong isn't a fan of children, Ashner has his hands full in both worlds to focus on a child, and out of everyone, you're the most diligent. You taught yourself how to cook our world's food, how to drive, how to clean, and even how to use our weapons… That's the kind of Godfather I want my children to look up to."
Alex’s eyes watered, he turned towards the group. In a way, he was asking them for permission. But they only smiled.
“Okay… I accept…” Alex wiped his tears. “I’m sorry I’m such a crybaby…”
“Never apologize for who you are.” Gio grabbed his shoulder. “You have a good heart… I’m delighted to know that you accepted my selfish request.”
“What does a Godfather do?” Alex smiled as the elves started singing again.
“You guide and protect the baby." Gio raised his eyebrow. He wasn't entirely sure what a Godfather did either. "Let the child know that you’ll be there for him or her no matter what happens.”
“I can do that.” Alex’s tail wagged quickly.
Ashner smiled until Melissa tugged on his sleeve.
“We have music… But no one is dancing…” Her eyes gave away her intentions.
“Dancing?" Lina and Risa glanced at each other, then at Ashner and Melissa. "What's dancing?"
Melissa grabbed Ashner’s hand and led him down the steps. “It’s something from our world.”
Melissa rushed towards the center of the Ballroom in high heels to top it off. She giggled when Ashner grasped that everyone's curious eyes were on them.
“Shall we show them?” Ashner extended his arm, and Melissa grabbed it. Then he took the first step. Then another. He caught Melissa off guard with his skill.
“You can dance?” She lit up and kept pace with him.
“I spent XP points on it…” Ashner admitted. “This is something you really wanted… And I didn’t want to disappoint you…”
“You can never disappoint me.” She spun into his chest then gave him a quick kiss.
Around them, other couples joined the stage.
Each with different styles of dancing. Most of them were clumsy, but all of them were smiling and laughing.
“This is wonderful.” Melissa glanced around at the guests as they circled and danced around them. “Ashner… I love you…”
Ashner smiled. “I love you too.”
A girl behind them exaggerated a fake cough. Snapping both Ashner and Melissa out of their trance.
Risa stood silently, with one of her shoes rubbing against the floor. She was glancing away, but she extended her arm towards Ashner.
“Don’t forget about me…”
Melissa giggled and bowed as she gave Ashner to Risa.
The demi-cat's movements were quicker than Melissa's, but she kept her balance and followed Ashner's movements perfectly. Her height made the dance a little more challenging since she was a head shorter than Ashner.
“Master.” Risa found herself blushing. Her face was bright under the moonlight and artificial lighting of the Ball. The windows above the Ball made the building illuminate. “Do you desire children of your own?”
Ashner raised his eyebrow. “Why ask me that?” Ashner spun her.
“I’m the only woman who can’t give you that… That’s why I’m worried.”
Ashner brought her close, wrapping his arm around her slim back. “Don’t worry about that… You’re my lover… A woman I love… And a woman who I will never let go of… I take you for who you are… Both the good and the bad…”
Risa's face blushed, but she shrugged it off. "You didn't answer my question… If I can't give you children…"
"I don't know if I want any." Ashner continued the dance. Around them, children dashed by. And the scent of sweets and meats filled the air. "If you want them, tell me. I'll see if I can use my power to make that happen."
Risa stopped dancing. Which left Ashner concerned.
“I want to search for the Yellow Striped Neku clan.” Risa managed.
“That’s the tribe that betrayed you.” Ashner raised his eyebrow.
“Yes… But I don’t want revenge… I want to bring them here… Before I met you, I despised them… All of them… But now I understand that we can’t survive if we hang on to grudges against our own… I know where they were last, but we’ll have to travel south…”
“If that’s what you want, then we’ll head there.” Ashner grabbed her hand. “You’re a natural at dancing.”
“Footwork is essential in swordsmanship.” She held her head up proudly.
The song stopped, ending the song. The dancers bowed at each other. While Ashner did, Risa got on her tippy toes, grabbed his face, and kissed him.
“I’ve never seen a wedding like this before… It moves me deep inside… So don’t forget your promise to us.”
“I won't," Ashner smirked and kissed her again as Gio and Evaristo turned on a laptop and set it up near where the elves were singing.
Risa broke away from Ashner and found her way towards Melissa, who was helping herself to the wine.
Ashner's brow was starting to sweat, so he walked towards a table filled with refreshments. Caitlin was standing next to it. Her emo attire was refreshing.
She glared at Ashner when he grabbed his cup. “You’re still holding your grudge against humans?” Ashner sipped on his drink and glanced down at her. She was a little shorter than Risa and lacked a chest.
Caitlin crossed her arms. “You just don’t understand.”
“Then enlighten me.” Ashner finished his drink quickly. “Have I mistreated you in any way?”
“No.” She admitted as she fiddled with a vial on her chest. It was wrapped around a leather necklace.
“Have any humans in Sanctuary mistreated you?”
“No…” She glared at Ashner. “That doesn’t mean they won’t. Humanity is disgusting. We can’t trust any of you…”
“Yet you’re here, getting paid to protect demi’s and humans…” Ashner studied her. Caitlin bit her lip. “I don’t blame you for hating me.”
She raised her eyebrow.
“Hard times create strong people, but it also creates anonymity and hate… So I’d rather live in a world filled with soft people who care for one another than a world filled with warriors wary of their neighbors.” Caitlin’s glares faded. “What’s the point of being a soldier if you don’t desire peace?”
“We're still at war." Her tone changed. She wasn't angry anymore. "Against humanity… Against the Dead God… And I heard you're also at war in your world…"
“Right now, we're at peace… No one is attacking us… You can choose to do or be anything… Don't tarnish this opportunity with the unquenched anger in your heart."
Caitlin’s eyes softened. “Can you leave me alone?” She asked with no anonymity.
“Sure.” Ashner took a cup and walked away.
*******
Gio started his playlist off his computer. The moment the music came to life, the demi's stopped and glanced around. But none of them were scared. After witnessing so much from their world, they were getting numb to the random differences.
“And that's the intro for the first season of To-Love Ru." Wong sipped on his drink next to Lina and Evaristo. "A weeb's gotta weeb."
Evaristo handed him a folder. “I was able to find out some information involving Jean and Amore.”
Wong took a long glance around. No one important was eavesdropping. Satisfied, he took the folder and opened it.
Amore's picture was on the first page, along with his military achievements and a character profile. Wong read it out loud. "A ruthless soldier, known for being an exceptionally good platoon sergeant. He was under investigation for the murder of young women in isolated regions of China, Taiwan, and Saudi Arabia... What does this mean?"
"White Water is aware of his… Dark desires… My sources say that he's an active serial killer with a taste for women between fourteen and twenty-five. The only thing these women have in common is they all have long hair. DNA samples were found on the inside of his victim's bodies after they started decaying. Suggesting he, on occasion, ejaculates inside the body after he murdered his victims. And he takes pieces of their flesh with him. Bite marks left on the victim's bones indicate that he rips the flesh away from the bone with his teeth. Cannibalism is a possibility but just a hypothesis." Evaristo had memorized the folders beforehand. "The last incident occurred four months ago…"
“Why isn’t the media all over this?”
“Because White Water serves as a private military, they don't have an alliance with any nation. If anything, they do the dirty jobs for these governments. Like killing leaders of groups with idealistic views, removing problematic competition for influential companies and families, as well as stealing resources from third world countries, forcing the locals to work at gunpoint… Then later blaming it on rebel forces or murdering everyone involved." Evaristo sipped on his liquor. "Their deeds are dreadful, but they only exist because these first-world countries allow them to. We're fighting an uphill battle against an organization with secrets that can destroy nations… One wrong move, and the most powerful nations will unite against us… And then we have Jean.”
Wong flipped the page. Jean was on the next page.
He was a pretty boy, with the appeal of a boy band member.
Wong read his bio out loud. "Higher than average IQ, ruthless with the lives of anyone outside of White Water, his tactics are unmatched in the field. Before his military career, he was head of a science team focused on the creation of biological warfare weapons, but he was forced to step down for his less-than-ethical ideals. Fourteen months ago, he was the platoon leader of a company that engaged against the 21st UKSF Signal Regiment… We weren’t the first to fight them?”
Evaristo nodded. “That unit witnessed first hand what White Water did to a local town of non-combatants. They were testing a nerve gas that Jean created, and he wanted to test it on unwilling targets… These locals were helping the British special forces and had earned their trust. But Jean only saw them as test subjects… Except the nerve gas didn’t kill the locals right away, it made them violent, and they started attacking each other. The effects lasted a few minutes, and not everyone was affected… So when they regained their senses, they fought back against White Water, using small arms… And so the UKSF company… White Water was outnumbered four to one. However, they still only lost fourteen members while the UKSF and village were eradicated… Good men died protecting a town of victims… They were all killed for it, and the media blamed the town. Before an investigation started, the UK dropped a few bombs over the city and, lastly, a few incendiary mortar rounds… Keeping the whole thing under wraps…”
“White Water is more important to them than their own soldiers…" Wong closed the folder. "Is this why you're so dedicated to helping the Black Knights?"
Evaristo finished his drink. “Yes, if they killed the 21st that easily, I fear what they could've done to the 111th. My brother wasn't in the special forces, and neither was his company… I don't believe he's alive… If White Water is responsible, I'll destroy them in every way I can until they're all dead, or I end up with a bullet in the back of my head."
Wong debated his situation with an angry gaze. “What about the other members?” Wong asked.
“That’ll take some time. With just these two, it took about three months of work to gather this much… And as for Melissa, we only have a CCTV video to go off of. Her other aggressors are still a mystery to us… But we'll figure it out… The only thing we can be certain about is that they’re involved with White Water… I heard about General Snapple… And his suicide.”
“It’s a real shame.” Wong retorted quickly.
“I’m not here to judge you.” Evaristo leaned back in his chair. “We’re at war, and in war, there are no rules.”
*******
Kabu had made his way towards Ashner. He was stumbling with his steps. "Ashner." He smiled, and behind him was Violet, just as wasted.
“Kabu.” Ashner caught a whiff of his breath. “You’re pretty far gone.”
“Ridiculous, dwarfs can handle alcohol better than most demi’s and humans.” He clung to his arm. “But I’m here to ask for a favor.”
“What kind of favor?” Ashner grasped how strong his grip was.
“Molding metal requires a lot of materials and ventilation since the smoke is toxic." Kabu slurred his words. "I want to relocate our smiths to a part far away from the city."
“Why bring this up now?”
“Because those demi-bunnies want that location for themselves. They're saying it's a good place to grow food." Kabu eyed Violet like he was telling his parents something she did wrong. "But they already have dozens of farms. If we don't get a better location, then we're going to make other demi's sick."
“Our population is only growing." Violet smacked Kabu's head. "Without food, we're all going to die. And we both know that's just a dwarven myth. Melting metal isn't toxic."
Ashner shook his head at Violet. "He's right. Those fumes are toxic."
Violet's ear came down. She wasn't expecting him to side with Kabu.
Ashner debated it, recollecting how much Violet urged him for more farming lands. Then he recalled the child selling wooden figurines.
“I'll allow it on a few conditions.”
“You’re asking for a condition?” Kabu scratched his beard. “What do you want?”
“This city is filled with war orphans. From all demi’s.” Kabu nodded. “I want your dwarfs to create a home for them.”
“But what about our farms?" Violet stumbled on Ashner. "We're doing what you asked. Food is essential."
“So is our health." Ashner sighed. Irritated that he was the one the leaders relied on to make all the decisions. "The demi-bunnies will provide food to the children, free of cost."
“Now you’re just giving us a bad deal.” Violet crossed her arms. “Children are a luxury.”
“Building a house for all those children will waste a lot of resources and time.” Kabu agreed.
Ashner shook his head. "Children are the future. So you two will be in charge of them. That means providing suitable caretakers and ensuring all their needs are met. Such as food, water, and education."
The two were drunk, but they glanced at each other. Ashner never asked for anything. They were curious what he would do if they said no.
“If you do this, Kabu and the dwarfs will have their own section of the city. And as for you, Violet. I'll buy more farming equipment for your people."
The two smiled like children getting a gift on Christmas.
“You’re so kind.” Violet hugged Ashner and Kabu squeezed his arm.
“You know." Violet smiled at him. "If you want a demi-bunny as a mate, just pick one. My girls won't deny you."
Ashner glanced at her guards, and they glanced away from Ashner when his eyes went their way. Unlike their leader, they weren't drunk.
“Just pick one of them… And they’ll please you… All… Night… Long…” She rubbed her finger on Ashner’s chest.
“Thanks, but no thanks.” Ashner sighed. “I’m not interested in them if you’re ordering them to be with me.”
“I can ask them instead. You're a handsome man. I'm sure my girls will jump for joy if you chose them."
“I'll think about it." Ashner was happy with his girls, and if a new one were to join, he had to make sure they were okay with it.
“Well said, Ashner." Kabu giggled and extended his hand towards a group of dwarfs. "A man like you must have refined tastes… Choose any female dwarf you want… The best ones are the plump ones."
Ashner studied the Dwarfs. “Which are the females?”
“Can't you tell? They're the ones with the smaller beards." Kabu teased.
“I’ll pass.” Ashner shook his head.
Kabu and Violet giggled and made their way towards the liquor to continue their night. When they left, their guards bowed as they passed Ashner.
"That settles that." Ashner sat down. Lina sat next to him. She had been with Wong for a while. She hadn't been drinking as heavily as the others, even if this was her sister's wedding.
“I’ve never seen my sister this happy.” Lina rested her head on Ashner’s shoulder.
The two glanced up at Elana, who was smiling happily and holding Gio's hand while he talked with Wilson.
“Gio's always happy, but today he's on top of the world," Ashner added, and he stroked Lina's green hair.
“I want us to find more demi’s. The High Elves are still somewhere in the burned forest. When will we go look for them?”
“Once we’ve built up our forces. As of right now, we’re not struggling to survive, but we are in the progress of creating homes for everyone.”
“It's not just that. We're mixing dozens of different cultures. So we don't have any clear laws or restrictions. I've heard that some demi's are belittling the humans that came here."
“That won’t end well for anyone.” Ashner stroked her hair and took a glance at her dress. Her skin was flawless.
“That’s why you need to start creating laws.” Lina poked his nose.
“Why me?”
“Because everyone listens to you.” Lina giggled and traced her fingers around Ashner’s cheeks. “You hold more power in this kingdom than even my sister.”
“Power? If anything, it feels like I'm the guy every leader begs for something." Ashner kissed her forehead, leaving the elf with a red blush. "Maybe in the future."
Lina slid her chair closer and kissed Ashner’s lips. “No matter what you decide to do, I will follow and support you… My darling.” She smiled.
“Darling?” Ashner blushed.
“Yes, my sister forced me to watch an anime with her. And that was a quote I enjoyed… Do you no like it? Darling?”
“I like it.” Ashner smiled.
******
A demi-bat gripped a small vial, capped off with a cork. She glanced around the wedding.
She was taking in the sickening sight.
Humans and demi's were eating at the same table. They were dancing and laughing.
It was so detestable the demi gagged, and the aroma of vomit filled her mouth.
She jumped on stage where a microphone was. Shaking with rage, she roared.
“WHAT IS WRONG WITH ALL OF YOU!”
The music stopped when she smashed Gio’s laptop.
“HUMANITY HAS MILLIONS OF US ON LEASHES!” All eyes at the wedding went to her. She wore a guard’s uniform. “WE CAN’T TRUST THOSE MONSTERS! KILLING THEM IS OUR SALVATION!”
The guards readied themselves, but they didn't draw their weapons. The last thing they wanted to do was kill one of their own.
"We're free!" Wilson stood up and opened his wings. "Stand down, Ueno! You tarnished the wedding ceremony of Queen Elana and disrespected our allies! Return to your quarters right now! We'll discuss your punishment later!"
“Disrespect?” Ueno raised her eyebrow. “Queen? King? Duke? NONE OF YOU ARE WORTHY OF THOSE TITLES! NONE OF YOU ARE FREE! EVEN NOW, YOU BEG HUMANITY FOR THEIR RESOURCES LIKE A SPOILED PET! THIS KINGDOM HAS NO ROYALS. YOU STILL FOLLOW HUMANITY!"
Ueno reached for her chest towards the vial wrapped around a string. She tore it off her necklace, and every demi-bat around her gasped.
“HUMANITY NEEDS TO DIE! IF YOU WON’T DO IT… I WILL!”
"Don't do it, Ueno!" Wilson pleaded as she popped the cork and swallowed the content. "Don't embrace the darkness!"
Ueno tossed the vial against the floor, shattering it. Her body shook, and her heart rushed with blood and mana. She fell to her knees. And her wings grew larger.
Dark stones grew out of her wings, arms, shoulders, and leg. Similar to a corpse that wasn't purified and got devoured by the Dead God.
“I’LL KILL EVERY HUMAN!”
“Wilson!” Elana roared as her royal guards stepped in front of her and Gio, bows ready to fire. “She’s your subject! What do we do!”
Wilson shook his head. “She’s not my subject anymore! She belongs to the Dead God now! GUARDS! GET EVERY HUMAN OUT OF HERE! SHE'S TURNING FERAL, SO THAT'LL BE THE FOCUS OF HER WRATH! EVERY GUARD HERE! KILL HER BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!"
Elana extended her arm out. “Loose arrows!”
Her royal guards released their shots. Each arrow struck the demi-bat, piercing her internal organs. She didn't react, like pain was a thing of the past.
But she kept shifting. On her body, stones grew. They were eerily similar to the stones of a husk of a devoured soul. They were black and similar to volcanic glass.
Demi-bats took flight, grabbing human guests and flying straight up, destroying the skylight above so they can escape quicker.
On Ueno's head, horns grew and twisted like a crown. Her teeth sharpened, similar to sharks. The whites on her eyes started slowly turning black. And her nails grew like daggers.
What is she? Menu, show me what she is.
The menu popped up and spun.
Error. Error. Error.
Her gaze focused on the crowd who was scattering, not just the humans. Every race ran for their lives.
All except the guards and Ashner, who was frozen in awe.
Then her eyes met Ashner's. "YOU!"
Ueno's wings spread open, as she flew forward, the wooden stage below her splintered.
Before her claw connected, a dagger stopped her, and two demi-bats locked against each other in midair.
Caitlin protected Ashner.
“WHY! YOU HATE HUMANITY MORE THAN I DO!" Ueno still had some rationality, so she held back from killing Caitlin. "DRINK THE POISON OF DECAY. TOGETHER WE CAN END HUMANITY!"
“… No!" Caitlin flapped her wings. That was enough time for an elf to grab Lina and pull her away. Ashner stayed still and reached for his sidearm. "I hate humanity! But I don't want to kill innocent people! Just the ones who hold the leash!"
Ueno's eyes slowly turned darker. The whites in her eyes were just about gone. "COWARD!" Ueno easily overpowered Caitlin and tossed her aside, cutting into her leg with her claws in the process.
“Loose!" Elana ordered again, and her guards fired, nailing some arrows in the body of Ueno, but the demi-bat didn't react.
She charged Ashner, knocking him on the ground. Ueno pinned him, putting her body weight on his chest.
Ashner aimed his M-9 at her head. But before he pulled the trigger, her hand gripped the weapon and crushed it casually.
“YOU'RE THE ONE! THE TRUE LEADER OF SANCTUARY!"
“Ashner!" Dozens of voices roared for him. Around him, Gio, Wong, Alex, Risa, Eugene, Evaristo, and dozens more reached for their weapons. Ready to kill the feral.
“EMBRACE MY DESPAIR!" Ueno roared, creating a shift in the air. Every warrior stopped in their tracks.

Ashner's mind shifted. He wasn't able to produce words in his mind. The guards collapsed around them. Some gripping their ears.
Ueno’s claws grazed Ashner’s neck, enough to draw blood.
Error. Error. Error.
No… No… Damn it… Is this where it ends?
Ueno’s eyes turned pitch black. And she stopped and took a deep breath.
“Flesh and bone.” Her voice shifted, a more mature tone came out of her mouth. “Blood and cells… A world denied to me… A champion I desired… A champion I choose…”
Her Iris started gaining color. Turning red. And her pupil turned white. Her claws caressed Ashner’s cheek. “A soul so broken… I can’t devour… For you are my delight…” She let her body lean down, her chest pressed against Ashner’s then her lips.
Ashner's lips savored the taste of death. It was dark, empty, and savage.

The menu popped up in front of Ashner.
Forced Entry.
… LILITH… GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM MY SON!
The menu spun, and a burst of light blinded Ueno and knocked her away from Ashner.
“Even in death, you refuse to submit," Lilith spoke through Ueno. "Lucian, you don't belong to their world anymore… This world is mine… Everything in it is mine… That includes the broken…"

The sword is the Key… With it, the world will blossom anew… But only one hero can wield it. My son… The pain you feel inside… I’m partially responsible… I’m sorry…
“LUCIAN! DON’T INTERFERE!” Lilith roared as the menu faded.
“HEY, BITCH!" A feminine voice yelled. Ashner turned his head. Melissa held her M4-Carbine.
She wasn't affected by fear. The girl aimed it at the feral and fired.
The first shot knocked her off Ashner, the next chipped and shattered the stones around her body and dug into her chest. Melissa roared and stepped forward, protecting Ashner with her weapon.
Ueno’s body ripped apart with the bullets. Her red eyes reviled with the woman killing her.
“So you… You’re the soul that’s forgotten.”
Ueno's body faded, and in its place, a small mountain of gold, mythril, and platinum coins appeared.

Master of the System
Leveling systems create overpowered main characters. Cooking systems create master chefs capable of conquering any stomach. Founder systems create monstrous sects from nothing. However, who creates the systems? This is a completely serious story written by the author of The Blue Mage Raised by Dragons.
