《P I G S》16. Aftermath

If you had gone back in time even just one day ago and told me that I would see the sight before me right now, I would have thought you stupid.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you told me that there were at least a million pig corpses in front of me. It felt unreal just looking at it.

I only stared at the sea of pigs for a moment longer before I had to get to work. I and Ezra were charged with getting as many of the pig bodies out of the church as physically possible.

Cheryl who had just woken up and the others were going to look through the pig corpses for berries or water.

Just something that we could use for survival. Although they were not heavy, there were a lot of them.

At first, we just had to roll them out and multiple would fall out of the church at a time. After a bit, we had to wake in and out of the church to get them out.

If I was being honest I wanted to vomit it was so gross.

The feeling of their flesh on my hands and the sounds that their corpses made when they flopped around were disgusting.

I wanted to vomit however, there was already way too much vomit in the church. I didn’t want to clean up even more.

We managed to get all of the vomit out and most of the pig’s corpses when the bell was about to ring.

We went back inside and waited for the others to get back to see what they got.

After a moment Annabelle and Wilson came back there was blood on Annabelle’s hands but she had a sullen look.

Wilson looked as gleeful as ever.

It seemed that she wasn’t able to find anything.

After that Jack and Cheryl came back.

Their faces were sullen and they were covered in blood.

Cheryl told us about how most of the berries seemed to be eaten by the pigs.

The ones that were left were scarce and typically had already been crushed by the pigs.

Also, the Water supply that we had been getting water from had been soaked in pigs and their organs.

It seemed that we wouldn’t be able to get any more water.

We only had a little bit left. If we only drank a little bit of water we could make it to the final day however, things were looking grim.

We had no feed unless you wanted to eat the pigs however, they were probably covered in disease and the rule made me not want to eat any meat.

I could go a few days without food. We had barely enough water I hopped and it seemed like we would be able to make considering the situation.

After a little bit, the final person came back. It was the albino girl. She had blood on her hands and was pondering something.

I wanted to ask her however, I knew she wouldn’t respond so I didn’t waste my energy. We all sat there in silence. I couldn’t believe it.

It felt like we went from a lush forest to an apocalyptic horror film. The next few days were going to be tough, however,

I didn’t have much choice I had to survive and make it through no matter what. Today taught me something though.

No matter what you shouldn’t trust everything to go the way you wanted it to. Life was unpredictable.

I felt that I needed to plan for the worst. As lunch passed and nightfall was soon to come upon us. Wilson started complaining about the lack of food.

He burst into tears when Annabelle told him we didn’t have any. He started stomping around “I want food I’m hungry!”.

It took a bit however Annabelle and Cheryl managed to get him to calm down.

He was still pouting however, he did it quietly in Annabelle’s lap as she played with his hair. Usually, the silence in the church was grim however, today it was unbearable.

I was taping my feet and my fingers in an attempt to distract myself from the silence or to even just create noise.

It felt like we were dead people with two feet in their graves.

You would have thought that we were at a funeral for our most dear love one with the silence. At this point, it was driving me mad.

I am always used to noise being around me. Whether that be the cars driving by in the night or the loud talk of people on the streets in the day.

I don’t know if I had ever just sat in silence like this.

I felt like a crack addict away from his drugs.

Except my drugs were noise.

In an effort to make noise I tried to start a conversation not particularly aimed at anyone I said “What’s everyone going to do when they get home?”.

Cheryl noticing my desperation to start a conversation started talking “Well I and Jack have lived together in an orphanage our entire lives and I recently got a small apartment in our hometown. I also-”

Her words started to fall off as her face paled.

Her eyelids looked as they were a hundred pounds as they threatened to close.

Suddenly her body slumped over and her eyes closed.
