《50 And Above》9. Unnatural Understanding- Chapter 2

Chapter 2
There were many similar incidents were Huang startled Feng and Feng retaliated in kind. Many of them were witnessed by Anshuman but even more of them went unnoticed.
Of course, to the young boy, they were just kites who flew near his home and he did not recognise them as the chicks whose antics had once enunciated a “Wow” from him.
In the blink of an eye, two years passed away.
And one day, as Anshuman stood waiting, anxiously yet hopefully, he saw Feng and Huang in the sky.
Anshuman had been waiting for ten minutes but...it felt like ten hours to him. She had said that she would be there at dot 5:00 pm and since she had never been late before, he felt crestfallen.
They had been close friends for ages but he had had a crush on Arni for as long as he could remember. When he had confessed to her yesterday over the phone, she had not replied but rather suggested they meet near his house as they had countless times before.
And when she did not turn up, he felt heartbroken. Because this might mean that even their friendship had been ruined for good.
(Narrator: Woah, not confessing face-to-face but over the phone? I wrote this, but man, the guy has no gu-
Friend 1: Shut up.)
As Anshuman was wallowing in self-pity, he heard a shriek. Glancing up, he saw two kites pulling aerial acrobatics.
Uncle Anmol told me about this. Kites mate for the first time when they are around 2 years old. And they perform an aerial courtship...a dangerous display called grappling. Well, guess at least someone’s found their partner.
And that’s exactly what it was!! Feng and Huang were shrieking and whistling to each other as they flew treacherously close to each other.

It seemed that their fights as fledglings had only formed a bond between them.
The two circled each other slowly and then suddenly, in a split-second, beat their wings and their talons were grasping each other tightly. They spiralled towards the ground at a tremendous pace.
Anshuman’s eyes followed their trajectory and his eyes caught sight of black hair flowing freely in the wind. The lady whose hair it was; had also been following the kites’ advance. And then...the two youngsters’ eyes locked.
By the time Feng and Huang had broken their entanglement and soared high up again, Anshuman had long lost interest. He was transfixed by the person coming his way and in his excitement moved forward of his own accord.
Her smile said it all. And at that moment, the boy’s feelings of sadness and fear seemed to have been blown away.
As he was crossing the road towards Arni, Anshuman cast a quick glance towards the sky and smiled absent-mindedly.
It truly is a marvel. No matter who, bird or human, we all fall in love. So similar, all organisms are, oh, so similar.
*****
Friend 1: So corny, birds symbolizing their love.
Narrator: (Stares) Oh, you didn’t get what this part of the story was all about. It wasn’t about their love nor was it wasn’t about the birds’ love. What it was about; was plain and simple love.
Friend 1: Huh?
Narrator: I get, Friend 1. Don’t worry, as you read on, your IQ might develop. Though EQ is also a focus...
Friend 1: Yeah, first of all, what this “Friend 1” thing? Can’t you at least give me name?
Narrator: No, not happening. As you were kind enough to mention before, I am the author and I’ll do as I see fit.
Friend 1: Why are you doing this to me?!
Narrator: Hmm? Oh, that’s cuz you are plain annoying. Anyway, fun fact guys: Black kites live for around 22-24 years.
Friend 1: (suspicious) Why are you sharing this all of a sudden?
Narrator: Oh, no reason. Knowledge is power so I was just sharing it. Plus, I was also being a show-off.
Friend 1: I give up.
Narrator: Best news I’ve heard all day.

The General Core {The Sphere}
The life cycle in the Sphere is on the brink of collapse because one of its elements, the Dungeons, have been exploited too much by the mortals. The group who created the Sphere already tried and failed with several modifications, because the original computer-like dungeon cores are too inflexible to handle changing approaches. So they try another type of solution – taking souls from other worlds to try to find a solution before the Sphere Cycle breaks down completely. The General was one of the best soldiers of his world, rising from the ranks of a private through Officer School to the highest command with honors. But when his world faced a zombie apocalypse, even that was not enough and he had to make the ultimate sacrifice. Now he is asked for a repeat performance of planning and controlling a dungeon and its spawns in a world that he knows nothing about… But what is the Sphere really? What is that [Xenotic conversion] he has to go through to even enter the Sphere? Something is really strange and he will have to find out what is going on to get to his promised rewards – whatever they will be. Being a soul in a dungeon core means that the General has better chances of finding hints to the truth about the sphere – a knowledge that would help him survive. And no, the sphere is NOT a virtual reality – the key to its secrets is the place where it was physically constructed (Author’s hint). This is a dungeon core story - but there are quite a number of things that I will do differently than common to those stories. 1) I will describe the floors when they are explored, NOT when they are build. Yes, that will mean it will take longer to get to those parts - but I think describing floors both when they are build and when they are explored destroys quite a lot of chances for suspense when adventurers enter the dungeon. After all, if you as the reader already know where the traps are, then you can't really be surprised when the surfacers encounter them. 2) How the world works (and how not) is an integral part of the story, so it will be explained I'm a world-builder first and the Sphere is NOT a regular world (as hinted in the synopsis above). Things will work differently than in your 08/15 default dungeon core stories - as the General and Gunny have already learned in the second arc (and more of that is already scheduled for the next weeks (July/Aug 2019) when the Sky Arrows continue to explore and evaluate that strange dungeon) If you don't like these premises, then I'm sure you'll find a lot of other Dungeon Core stories more to your liking. But if you are interested in more than "Dungeon builds another room and corridor in medieval earth" and are not afraid of a longer and slower story, then go on. I have two more stories in the Sphere, although they both have lower priority than this one: Shaleen the Wanderer (Adventurer, NSFW) (currently on hold after some chapters) Info's on the Sphere (System Docu and Short Stories) (irregular updates when needed) Current Status reports have been moved to a new discord server: https://discord.gg/EaHkXCfm9y

A Spirit Vein's Guide to Immortality
TL;DR Synopsis: Man dies from falling banana, gets interrogated but answers vaguely, suffers consequences Actual synopsis: Spirit veins. Many consider them to be the pillar on which the world of cultivation is built. These things served as the foundation for the first few realms that would allow humanity to achieve its everlasting dream of immortality. However, in the present age, these pockets of condensed energy only exist to be under the foundations of massive organizations, fostering a new generation of fighters while passively radiating the energy they contain. Nevertheless, spirit veins are still an important element in the world of cultivation, albeit much less so. With that in mind, have you ever considered what it would be like for someone to turn into a spirit vein? No? Well, Arthur never thought about it either. Going through the usual reincarnation schtick (if one could consider it usual), Arthur was eventually brought into a place where a god asked him where he would like to be reborn. Unsurprisingly, Arthur told the god his ideal rebirth. However, soon enough, he would come to realize that he should have been more specific with it. Now being reborn as the smallest spirit vein, or if you could even consider him a spirit vein, Arthur wondered what he could do other than wait for time to consume him…and that’s where the system came in. With it, he would experience multiple stories of hardships, adventure, romance, and action…all underground. Unless…? Do keep in mind that English is not my first language, so I would like to apologize in advance if there are any grammatical errors, typos, miscalculations and so on. In fact, I'd highly appreciate it if you tell me those mistakes. Also, this story focuses quite a lot on the gradual progression of the MC at the beginning, but in the long run, upgrading sprees would probably be more common. Thanks for reading this small note!
