《The Journey Of A Reluctant King》The adventure Begins
Advertisement
Today was the day of Alex Mercy's 21st birthday. It was a special day because today is when his adventure would begin.
Walking through a dark corridor, blue light from the ship I was on showed me my path. Finally after what seemed like having walked for hours I arrived at a big metal door. It was cold to the touch. There was a keypad to open the door but I didn't know the code. So I did what anyone who didn't want to be there would do. I turned around and started walking back, I didn't care how long it would take.
But I had only gotten 2 steps back when with a click the door slid open.
Inside the room stood my father and my mother dressed elegantly as any royal should, My father wore a black robe embroidered with gold patterns, he always said the gold made his horns look bigger. My mother wore a simple red dress, one of her favorites. It always made her black skin look like the backdrop of the universe.
Waking into the room my mother grabs me and hugs me tightly tears in her eyes she says :
" I wish it didn't have to be today you, have grown up so fast "
My father joined in the hug and said :
" Today will be the day you start you're adventure to become king "
I groaned. I didn't want to become king, I would much rather live a simple life. Just then the door opens and my parents let go of me. I turn around to see who it is and I see a man who is 1m90 tall with bulging muscles and one horn on his forehead. His name is Samuel my bodyguard, questionly i look to my parents and say:

" I am meant to go alone on my adventure "
My mother answers worriedly : " This is an age old tradition that must be respected but back in the day nobody would have imagined the Sun empire to span half the galaxy, Samuel is going with you to ensure your safety."
" but the tradition says it must be a journey to improve oneself for the role of leadership, and it must be done alone " i said a bit annoyed because this would ruin my plans.
" This is not negotiable it has already been decided, you are the only heir to the throne and forgetting that you are my son if anything were to happen to you we could not forgive ourselves "
The look of worry and a bit of fear on my parents' faces made me decide to not argue further.
Samuel put a hand on my shoulder and gave me reassuring smile like he always would when he thought i was sacred, all four of us headed to the escape pod, once inside my mother gave me a pouch of money normally i would protest because i am meant to start my journey with nothing and nobody, but since we were already breaking the rules with Samuel i decided not to say anything besides it would come in handy. Giving my parents one last hug goodbye we shut the pod doors and set the coordinates for the planet below. On the way down i see my parents setting course for the main ship. I know it would take them a couple of days to get back, we are quite far out from our usual sector. The pod starts heading down to the planet. It's a bumpy ride down since the escape pod isn't meant to be comfortable. Samuel tries to steer the pod towards a clearing but it isn't working; he never was much of a pilot. We crash into some trees on the way down and end up in the clearing. I suppose i should give him more credit. We exited the pod i had planned on slaviging it to sell the parts later but with the money i got from my mother it was starting to look like more trouble than it was worth.

Samuel comes up to me with a worried look " you aren't hurt are you "
I shake my head and give him a smile " do you know where the nearest town is ? '' i ask him hoping for a good answer.
He shakes his head and gives me a mischievous smile :'' This adventure is yours to do alone. I am only here to protect you from harm ". I groan at his refusal to help since the only thing i have on me is a pouch of money. I decided to climb a tree to see if i could spot a town. When I finally manage to get up i don't see any town but i do spot a river a couple kilometers to the west. Back on the ground we start to head towards the river i saw. We were walking for what seemed like forever but still did not reach the river. My legs were starting to hurt and the hot suns of this planet were a never ending source of torment. I don't know how long the days are on this planet but i am pretty sure they are long. I wasn't going to make it very far just walking around in the sun, so i started looking for selther. After about one hour of finding nothing but trees i came across a cave entrance. I looked to Samuel hoping he would check it out for me but he just looked back at me and smiled. I stormed into the cave angry at the heat and his unwillingness to help. Inside was much cooler i felt a lot better it wasn't very big but it was empty thankfully because i realized it was pretty stupid of me to rush in. Samuel followed me inside wearing his armor. He must have a cooling system installed because he wasn't even sweating. I looked at his suit with a bit of jealousy, while he still had that smirk on his face . I felt a bit embarrassed about my reaction earlier so i said :" now that we have found shelter we will rest here until the suns go down "
Samuel just nodded, sat down and closed his eyes. I was a bit worried about the animals on this planet but decided that my parents wouldn't be so cruel to drop me off on a dangerous planet. So i sat down and closed my eyes as well.

It swings between action, drama, and sometimes some darker comedy. Warning: A whole lot of profanity, alcohol, drugs, implied violence, actual violence and mega-violence—the kind that involves knives sliding into eye sockets and brains spilling onto floors—the usual stuff, scenes of intimacy, mercenaries, pirates, lots of moral ambiguity, including a wizard that likes to make tea with the heat sucked from his victim's bodies and a heap of world-ending monsters ready to eat people. _______________ Expectations: Updates every Monday and Thursday. Chapters will be between 2,000 and 5,000 words. I'm Irish and write in "Irish English" which is to say that I don't use much of the letter "z"
