《The Blood We Are Born In》Announcement

This has been obvious for a while , so I'll just make it official: Unfortunately this story is going on a permanent hiatus, with no foreseen end time. Apologies to my 17 or so readers, who stuck with me despite my story being VERY rough and inconsistent, but it's obvious I cannot meaningfully work on it.
First reason is the lack of readership. I'll fully take responsibility for that one, with my extremely slow schedule (that became non-existent these last few months). Or perhaps it was due to my lack of skill. Regardless of the reason, the story isn't growing as much as I'd like and it seems to me interest in it is low.
Normally I wouldn't have a problem with continuing a story even without any readership, I've done it before, except for reason number two: I have recently been very busy. Some know that I am a freelancer who works from contract to contract, and it used to be that I had long breaks in between contracts where I could write. Unfortunately now I am having almost non-stop contracts, some more demanding than others, and am so busy I have very little time to write.
The Blood I was Born In was planned to be an epic, with three books and a lot of story (we were in the middle of the 1st book, if you were wondering). I cannot cut the story short and still do it justice, like I did with my last book. But when I realized that I would barely be able to write a few chapters a year at my current pace, which means this story would only get finished a few years after the heat death of the universe, all my will to write just drained away.
Thank you to those wonderfully kind people that commented, and for the one review with very gentle and fair criticism of my story. And I am sorry to disappoint anyone still interested in how it ends. It is possible this story might continue, but very unlikely, and I am just making this official with this post to not expect any future updates, ever.

A King in the Clouds
Tanlar. A cruel, repulsive, and foul word. It meant untitled, officially, but it also meant ungifted, unable, unworthy, unnecessary, unhuman. It was more a curse than a term, a badge only the damned and condemned wore. To be a tanlar was to know your life, your entire being, was insignificant. Once Kaizer had resigned himself to such a fate, but those times had passed. He may have been untitled, but he was anything but untalented. He refused to scrape by at the bottom of society. Those who stood above him could sneer all they liked, but he wouldn’t suffer being stepped on for long. He’d be better, much better. But of course he would be. ‘Fate’ demanded it so. [Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] What To Expect: The story of a boy becoming a man becoming a king + everything that entails. Largely gamelit, but later arcs could be called litrpg. Also schemes. A lot of schemes. I do love some good ol' fantasy politics and intrigue. Minimum Word Count a Week: TBA after Writathon Release Time(s): Daily for as long as I can/until the end of the Writathon. I also write The Deathseeker [Returning Dec 5th]

Dead Eyes Open
Emerra Cole died just short of her twentieth birthday—but that won’t stop Jack Noctis, the embodiment of death, from asking for her help. Not that Jacky raised her from the dead. He says she came back on her own. He only dug her up, pulled her from her casket, and gave her a place to stay. While he hates to impose, he hopes she’ll lend him a hand with a murder that’s been giving him trouble. The anthropology professor, Trevon Wayde, was shot in the chest. The police are looking for his murderer, but Jacky wants to know why his soul is missing. Emerra returned from death with the Eyes of the Sphinx, a legendary ability that allows her to see things others can’t. Jacky thinks her new powers could be useful when it comes to uncovering what happened. When Emerra agrees to look around, she’s dragged into a world of magic and monsters. There isn’t much time for her to adjust. She’ll have to get her bearings while working side by side with a vampire, making friends with a wolfman and a bog-creature, and learning how to deal with an abrasive teenage witch. Thank god the mummy is there to help. Life after death is going to be interesting.
