Chapter 15: Magic
The moment that I have returned, our camp was already brimming with life. The delicious aroma of spices and herbs entices my nose as I drew closer.
Seems like Remi’s already done cooking. Just in time for me to relish this hunger.
“Yo…”
I waved my hand to say hi and occupied the free log beside our horse.
“We’ve been wondering where you disappeared to.”
Remi gave me a quick glance before she returned her gaze towards the pot of soup. From the looks of it, it’s the same old soup that we’ve been eating for a few days now. The soup is full of herbs native to this forest, although some are quite familiar looking.
“I took a quick walk. Where’s Meles?”
Before sitting, I swiftly glance all over the area, yet any trace of Meles was nowhere to be found.
But as soon as I asked that, something squeak behind my back.
“Looking for me, Kan-sou-ke?”
A delicious voice said that to my ears.
There was no need for me to check its origin. I just know, since Meles has taken a liking to sneak up on me lately.
“Sit down. Keep me company.”
“Hmm…”
While whistling a short “Hmm”, she crossed her arms on my neck and started burying her face on my own.
“Kansouke’s mad?”
“Hah? Why should I?”
"You seem depressed lately."
Acquiring the privilege to travel with two beautiful ladies like this and being unable to touch them. Now that would just seem like torture, isn’t it?
Who wouldn’t be depressed? I do not want to intrude on their private matters regarding their overly friendly relationship, but it couldn’t be helped.
Yes, it’s as if any sense of my significance has disappeared after catching them on their play.
“Ahaha, it's because Meles hasn’t kissed me lately… maybe that's why.”
………Yikes! It’s over.
I’ll be thrown out of the ditch now. Something inside me just knows.
But her actions just puzzled me even more. Meles nudged my cheek slightly. The abruptness of it knocked the wind out of me, but I just sat there and enjoyed her soft sensation, not mentioning a word about it.
I couldn’t contain my smile as well. It’s as if I'm overflowing with energy once more after that kiss.
“Can I have one more?”
I shamelessly requested.
This time, she started nibbling on my left ear.
She sucked the lower end, putting it around her teeth, and gently chewing it with her mouth. It was something as simple as nibbling, yet the feelings behind it were sensational.
However her attachment to me did not halt there. Rather, it was just beginning.
She bounced on my lap, and faced me with a smile. She tangled her arms around my neck and pulled my head closer, closer to her chest.
Again, that soft sensation on my lap caused my sword to rose energetically. I’m not sure if she felt it or not, but she started moving. She started grinding the tip of my sword between her thighs.
Feels good~
“I have a surprise for Kansouke, when we get home.”
Meles whispered at the back of my ear.
Because of that lewdness mixed in with her breath, the bulging beast in my pants would seem like its about to burst.
These days, when a cute girl ask you to do something, “most guys” would’ve agreed, without a doubt.

And I am definitely counted among those, “most guys”.
Gosh, I just want to eat her, right now, this very moment, without a single care in the world. Yet thinking about the fact that this girl will leave me one day me pains my heart. Is there something that I could do to prevent that?
I tricked myself into doing something, but those heavy words that Roxis left me behind that day was hard to divert my thoughts from.
Meles would have to leave whether I’m in agreement or not.
It was already decided. It’s something that I must face sooner or later.
“I thought that would make Kansouke happy, was I wrong?”
“Naw, I like it.”
Seeing the gloom that hangs on my face, Meles pinched my cheeks. She pinched it so hard, that it’s starting to hurt. But that pinching of hers forcefully moved my mouth to a smile. And that fake smile soon morphed into a smile that touched my very being.
For me to be comforted by such a small person, Tersa would definitely laugh.
“Goho!”
A presence released a force cough behind me.
By the tone of her voice, I would guess she’s dying to be showered with affection, just like a child wanting to be spoiled.
But because she hasn’t let me in for quite some time now, I decided to ignore her.
“Well, I’m hungry. Let's eat?”
The words that came out of my mouth was a possibility that I am turning colder. As I have previously said before, I never say no when it comes to a beautiful girl~
But for the sake of seeing Remi’s wonderful reaction, I sighed and denied it.
“Don't ignore me, idiot…”
“I’m not. I’m merely saying I’m hungry~”
I said it in a way to tease, which was super effective by the way.
I sensed Remi bristle behind me and the top of my head was soon massaged by two gigantic watermelons.
This feeling of softness that I haven’t felt for what seemed like an eternity— it feels good~
Perhaps it was just my misunderstanding after all. What could be this surprise that the two of them formulated behind my back? Thinking logically, it could only mean that, right?
Muehehehe.
Without proper reasons, I began to grin. And so, we started to eat.
Sitting on my side, Remi handed me a bowl of soup.
Looking on my steaming bowl, it’s quite impossible not to be amaze. It was something as simple as a herb soup, but those herbs alone was able to bring out such a creamy looking taste.
Anyways—
*Sluuurp!*
My taste buds should be getting tired of it, yet for some odd reason, I am unable to stop myself from slurping it. Even though its flaming hot, my taste buds don’t care. That’s just how good this soup is. But sometimes, the mysteries of this soup makes me shudder, especially if there’s some meat involve.
“Mind your surroundings when you eat!” Remi complained.
“Sorry, this soup is just so addictively good, I can eat it for the rest of my life,” I answered back after slurping it once more.
“Wh-what? W-well I’m glad you like it! B-but its not like I made i-it for you o-or anything like that!!”
That denial of hers accompanied by her flushed cheeks could only mean one thing.
Wait, if I interpret those words that left my lips, it could be:
Sorry, this soup is just so addictively good, will you marry me, so I can eat this for the rest of my life?

That’s not how Remi heard that, right? Knowing her personality, she’d probably deny it. But that’s what make her so cute~
“Hmmm…”
As I enjoy the blessings of the boobs beside me, Meles loudly bit her lips tighter, as if saying she’s annoyed.
Hearing this, my vision went back to Meles, who was busy identifying the two crimson knives on my other side.
I handed it to her beforehand, but perhaps letting a bloodthirsty girl like Meles handle some sharp knives was a bad idea.
“Do you know anything about those knives?”
Meles rested a hand on her chin. “You see this magic circle?” While showing a mystified expression, she pointed to that tiny magic circle that you would certainly miss had you not pay attention, carved near the edge of the guard.
“No, what are those anyways?”
“If my theory is correct, then the purpose of this engraving is to channel mana into the weapon. These knives are very deadly, a simple scratch can send you crying to oblivion.”
Hearing her explanation almost made me spill my essential food source.
“You’re joking?”
“I’m not. I do not know the proper methods myself, but I’ve seen something similar before. For the time being, I'll hold onto these. These are certainly better than the two short swords I got from your lover.”
My heart screamed immediately. “No! I told you, that was a guy! He’s my buddy!”
“Not very convincing…”
Again, Meles looked at me with those dead fish eyes.
This is the last time. I will truly abolish whatever glint of friendliness I have with Roxis when we returned!
Since it was futile to explain any further, I just regained my composure with a sigh.
“So basically, you supply mana in the weapon through that magic circle?”
“Umu, that’s one way of saying it.” Meles frowned. “Again, these are just mere theories.”
“What about now?”
“Right now, these knives seem to be empty. Based from what you told me, it could have use all of the mana stored inside the knives on one go. On that single attack that saved your life.”
“I see…”
Mana is that sort of spiritual energy scattered almost everywhere, unseen to the untrained eye. It is also a form of energy found inside our bodies, hence the usage of spells.
To manipulate this spiritual energy inside us, one need to master an incantation or draw magic circles in regards to the spells’ element. According to Tersa, the uber, magical, grandiose, demon overlord living inside me, the more you recite the same incantation, the more your body gets used to it.
In a way, your body remembers, shortening the casting time.
That’s why the majority finds it a lot easier to cast spells through the use of incantation instead.
I found this true when Gordon sparked fire by mentioning a single word, Blaze. Since he’s a blacksmith, it’s evident that he’s been using a variety of fire inducing spells for who knows how long, thus increasing his affinity towards the usage of fire.
Another example was my mother.
Mom was an excellent earth mage before she retired and married my somewhat useless dad, starting a humble farming life in the countryside. Since she was an earth mage, manipulating the soil had been her specialty, and using the knowledge she gained from the war, Mom was able to simplify the building of trenches.
Although I say it as if it was a simple thing, it’s not actually that easy. I’ve never really understood the theory behind magic, no matter how many times Tersa pondered it inside my brain, for the reason that I am unable to cast a single spell of my own.
But I could clearly say that my sword, Fairy’s Tear, is a sword that generates wind magic on its own. Although unlike these crimson knives, there wasn’t any visible magic circle that channels mana through the blade, so perhaps it’s on the materials themselves?
AHHH!!
By the time I reached the phase of my realization, I feel like my brain would explode.
Still, I wish Gordon would’ve clarified all of this before he gave me this sword! A little explanation wouldn’t hurt.
-Look at the sheath.-
-Huh, what?-
-Check the sheath, dumbass!-
Is what Tersa screamed in my brain.
Seriously, she should be asleep this time of the day. I wonder what kept her awake?
-Such impudence. I shall have your eyeballs for dinner the next time we meet.-
-Eeeek! I apologize, Master.-
-Know your place, servant.-
It might seem like I’m talking to myself sometimes, but deep inside me is the soul of this tyrant demon, Teressa. For some unknown reasons, she resides inside of me.
-So much useless monologue about yourself.-
See? She’s that rude of a person. Self centered, arrogant, conceited, you name it. But living in the same body for nearly a decade, I’ve gotten used to her overwhelming presence.
What I can't get used to is how she really does sport on eating my body parts like it’s a joke! Even though it happened inside my dreams, the fear of those horrifying experiences left in my mind is REAL.
Following Tersa’s instruction, I set my bowl aside, stood up, and gave my sword to Meles.
“You’ve seen how I’ve used this, right? Can you tell me how this sword works?”
“This sword…? Hmm…”
With an unusual curiosity, she unsheathed the blade. At that very instant, the sword started to glow. The same verdant color that represents the forest.
“This might be one of those swords that channels the mana in the air instead of the mana supply inside our body.”
“Meaning?”
“Umu, I’m not exactly sure, but it might be because of these gems embedded on the sword’s sheath. These gems are classified as magic stones. And judging by its color and shape, these magic stones are one of the rarest variety. Not to mention, this sheath has six. Mana stored inside these gems channel it through the sheath and through the sword, and the longer the sword stays sheathed, the more wind this sword could generate.”
I can only watch dumbfounded.
Forget about that fine explanation, how did she know of all of this? Not to be rude, but Meles doesn’t hit me as that type of person. You know, the one who studies behind a mountain of books.
But she’s been a great help.
Unconsciously, I slid my arm over her gigantic hood and patted her head.
“Thanks for all of that…”
“Umm…”
She grasped the sword on her chest with both arms, obediently staying in place for me pat. It’s like she’s returned to being a little kid.
When I look at her blushing and all obedient like this, it’s hard for me to imagine how cold blooded she is sometimes.
Hopefully the time she reveals those secrets, would be soon.
I hope you enjoyed this chapter, some info dumps here and there~

The world ended on December thirty-first of the year two thousand and twenty, precisely at the stroke of midnight. The human race began to be systematically exterminated by the spawn of the System. We were given a chance to defeat them, to take back our place at the top of the food chain. We failed. The first to perish were those who bravely rebelled. The soldiers. The defenders. One by one, they fell. In their final moments, they begged for aid. Nobody replied. The next to succumb were those who feebly cowered. The deniers. The leeches. Together, they fell. In their final moments, they cried out into the darkness. Countless voices replied in kind. The last to decline were those who shamelessly ran. The deserters. The cowardly. Alone, they fell. In their final moments, they whimpered quietly. There was nobody left to answer. The final human to die was a survivor. A runner. As he died, he begged for salvation. His prayers were answered. He was offered a chance to save himself, along with all of humanity, and he took it. This is his story. “I sat in the dark and thought: There’s no big apocalypse.
