《Jack》Chapter 13.5: Monsters and Existences
Advertisement
Each monster has two to three evolutions, the higher evolutions are generally more powerful physically and mentally, and there personalities and instincts become more extreme. There are three stages, or classes, between each evolution, upper, middle, and lower classes. Monsters and higher beings tend to focus solely on evolutions, however, humans created the upper, middle, and lower classes to help get a better understanding of it’s level of power. This basic description focuses on the broader evolution and existence differences rather than class differences, but you can just assume that the power rises by about 0.5 with each class upgrade.
Furies- humanoid beings that are masters of disguise. The mid and upper classes can talk in crude voices by imitating humans. The stronger they are, the younger they look is a general rule, however, that rule usually stops when there appearance reaches about 20 years old. Their bodies are inefficient, and require large amounts of magic to sustain their existence, the stronger ones even go after beings way out of their league in a desperate attempt to sustain their insatiable hunger. Generally not hostile to humans and non magical beings, but will attack if they are found out.
Goblins- small green creatures that often hide in the forest, fearing humans, and using very basic magic to hide themselves. Most intelligent of the first evolution monsters, crafting simple clothes, armor and weapons, and the upper classes can even wield magic in a fight,. Generally non hostile to humans, but will attack if discovered.
Wyverns- strongest of the first evolution monsters, pretty much small dragons that can even take on some lower class second evolution monsters. Tend to hide up in the clouds, only coming down to eat once a month, and are rarely seen by anyone. Will attack humans when they come down to feed, but such events are rare.
Serpents- range from 8 to 12 feet in length, look like giant snakes, but are significantly more intelligent. Very good hiders, and have an innate magical ability to blend in with it’s surroundings, and can be found in large concentrations of magic. It will attack anything if it feels threatened, but tends to be lazy, and just lays around soaking up magic like leaches.
Thrall- most human-like of the monsters, resembling them physically and emotionally, but are generally very stupid with the intelligence of apes, and mostly die out before they get a chance to evolve. Not threatening to humans.
Ghouls- second evolution of furies, attracted to large concentrations of magic, similar to furies, but can go for months without absorbing any magic whatsoever. It’s intelligence is about that of an average humans, and has no problem blending in with a crowd, however, they usually spend their time hunting humans for sport instead of hiding. It’s power is considerable, but it’s speed is what it focuses on the most. Threatening for humans that are alone, or in small groups, but will avoid large crowds of people.
Orcs- second evolution of a goblin, intelligence does not improve much, but it’s size and magic ability increase greatly. They tend to be 10 to 15 feet tall, and have the ability to eject magic in different forms from their body, and some higher classes can even control the flow enough to use in advanced attacks, and significantly improve their combat ability. Generally lives underground or in caves, preferring the dark and quiet scenery, and have a usually passive nature, so they are not much of a threat to humans.

Dragon kin- not quite dragons, the second evolution of wyverns and come in many different forms. They often fight amongst each other to achieve their next evolution, but most battles happen high up, the world’s governments usually destroy any that stray down to the earth. If kept in check they are not a threat to humans.
Leviathan- scaly serpents that burrow in the ground, feeding on the earth’s magic deposits, and rarely come to the surface. They range form 30 to 40 feet in length, and are often decorated with beautiful colors that are coveted by some higher beings. Can be deadly when they decide to attack something, but are rarely seen and don’t show much interest in humans.
Vampires- Evolution of a thrall, don’t advance much physically, though they are significantly stronger than humans, they are more advanced in intellect and magic, able to wield simple magic with ease, and the higher classes can often use slightly more complex magic if given time. They do not suck blood, but their magic does often look like blood when used. Does not need to feed on magic energy unless it uses magic, so most just hide their identity and leave peacefully with humans.
Wraiths- terrifying creatures that evolved from ghouls, bloodthirsty and overconfident, with sufficient power to back that up. They can use magic to enhance their abilities and turn themselves into a shadow, and usually toys with it’s prey before killing it. They will hunt humans for sport, but are often restrained by some human-loving gods, who bless certain heroes to defeat the creature. Higher class wraiths have been known to build armies, and were often referred to as demon kings, but that has only happened twice in history, and both ended with the hero’s victory. Very rare, but very dangerous to humans.
Ogres- great warriors that evolved from orcs, and are usually master craftsmen, mages, and soldiers, when wraiths make an army, it is usually mostly made up of ogres as officers, and orcs as cannon fodder. Enjoys a good fight, but will usually not attack unless something challenges them or offers them something they want. Generally stay in caves, and are pretty rare, not a real threat against humanity.
Dragons- legendary beasts that are considered as the strongest monsters, their height typically ranges from about 120-150 feet tall and are able to use magic by channeling it to their head, and releasing it with brute force and obliterating their opponent. They can usually talk, but their words are hard to understand with their odd-shaped mouths, but some higher class dragons can communicate via telepathy. Wraiths often try to beat the dragon into submission, but one has been known to succeed, and that wraith later became one of the demon kings. Incredibly rare, and typically have a lazy nature, so they are not much of a threat.
Hydra- Evolution of a Leviathan, is dragon-like, but is much smaller and has 3-5 heads, only about 50-60 feet tall, but can regrow it’s heads if it is removed. It does not grow two for every one that is removed, but it is incredibly tough, and fast, with the ability to turn invisible. Very rare, and doesn’t seek out prey like wraiths, but is territorial and will attack if something intrudes on it’s space. The governments usually make those territories off-limits, so they are not a huge threat.

Vampire lord- evolution of a vampire, has terrifying agility and strength, and are regarded as incredibly intelligent beings who can use advanced magic with little to no effort. Over all, they are bored with life, and just lock themselves away and study for hundreds of years. There are only four vampire lords, and none of them are violent, though they do have a twisted sense of humor, and view themselves as higher existences rather than monsters.
The differences between existences and monsters is existences were here before monsters, while monsters originate from god’s and other higher existences’ experiments on lower existences, and all have magical energy, while many existences do not.
Humans- beings that are decently well rounded, but often give in to emotions over logic, which is frowned upon by many of the more logical-minded existences. Physical ability is weak, but intellect is decent, and naturally group together to form communities that cover many of their weaknesses.
Aliens- there are many different types, but they are generally logical-minded existences who aren’t usually very fond of humans or other creatures that think with emotion. They do have emotion, but they do not let it influence their decisions, and because of that, their technology and government is far more advanced than the human’s.
Heroes- people blessed by a god or goddess, and is usually given a task by either talking with one of the god’s angels, or, the more powerful gods and goddesses, give them a strong desire to accomplish something (An example of this is Ellis, when she said she used to bless people and make them fall in love, she can’t manipulate their will, but she can put ideas in their head, and motivate them. Ellis was the most powerful goddess, so other gods can’t do it to this degree). They are typically very powerful warriors that can usually take on upper class third evolution monsters, and usually have a pretty naive view on life, which keeps them from questioning the god’s motives.
Demigods- created from a god and a lower existence, or from a lower existence that happened to be exposed to copious amounts of magical power, and evolved (Jack is different from this, while he is in control of a ridiculous amount of magical power, it was given to him in moderation, and wasn’t forced into his body. It is more similar to how a hero is blessed, but he was blessed with an entire goddess, if that makes sense). They are incredibly powerful, and usually have a certain type of magic (like water or fire magic), kind of like a god, but significantly weaker. Typically, they are proud beings who are boastful, and have helped humanity in the past, but just to stroke their ego.
Angels- A race of winged humanoids that serve the gods. In most situations, angels specialize in serving a specific god, kind of like a personal servant, the god giving them magical energy in return, and the god’s social ranking is often decided by how many angels a god has. For the most part, angels are super-beings, quick to learn and physically adept, not to mention beautiful, and gods have been known to abuse their authority over the angels. Their power is usually about that of a mid to upper class dragon, but they are not usually used in a fight.
Demons- a reference to a stray angel, which occurs when the god they serve either dies or disowns them. When this happens the magical energy of a god is removed from them, and their usually white wings become black, and they are referred to as demons. Demons are rejected by all, and are usually hunted by other gods’ angels and killed, so there are not many that live long.
Deities- in rare occasions, a god or goddess will become crippled magically, either having there magic permanently lessened. They are not friendly to anyone, and still have sufficient power, second only to gods.
Celestial dragons- much weaker than deities, but nothing to scoff at, being the third most powerful being is unmatched by any existence or monster aside from gods and deities. They are considered existences because they were not created, in fact, dragons were made in their design, with the original intent on making them servants. However, dragons are lazy by nature, and were rejected by the celestial dragons, cast down to earth (there was a large battle between heroes and dragons, but that’s a story for another time). They are prideful, as are all higher existences, but are the most agreeable, and will listen to the pleas of those weaker than them.
Gods- by far the most powerful beings, unmatched by any other, and they know it. There are two different kinds of gods, the cocky ones that view all lower beings as unworthy to lick their shoes, and the kind that find lower existences amusing, and like to watch them. The first kind are usually abrasive, and constantly scramble for power, stepping on anything or anyone they can to get there. The second type are usually pretty passive, enjoying their time toying with lower existences, and are usually the ones that bless heroes. Unfortunately, about 90% of gods are the first type, cocky and self-centered, so gods are not really trusted by any other beings in general.

Ph. D. In Sorcery
Follow Anastasia, the unlucky physicist turned wizard, as her reality gets turned upside down and she is plunged into a world of gods, magic, swords, and adventure. Short and sweet description, anything more would be a spoiler and I detest those. Now, what you can expect from reading: This is my first time writing, or better said allowing someone else to read that mess so don’t raise your expectations too much. Still, I will try to keep the story flowing, while also devoting as much time as I can to editing. In my opinion, the story is written at a faster pace than normal with time skips here and there. I will do my best to not allow the faster pace to ruin the story by using those time skips to raise the skill of the main character. I am mainly looking for feedback while I test myself in new and unexplored waters. I did put a lot of thought into worldbuilding and the magic system, it is something that has been mulling inside my head for years before I sat down to write anything down. First and foremost I am an engineer and not a writer. I will try to do my utmost to make the world logical and consistent, but sometimes I might not express that in a way that’s clearly understood. I have a rough outline with several possible endings, but the story will change and evolve as I do. But in case I have to stop for whatever reason, the story will get an ending. It will be done even if I have to send coded messages from a bunker. I am a big fan of the Dresden Files so you can be certain that everything mentioned will in most cases be used, with a few red herrings sprinkled in the mix. But that also means I will enjoy putting the main character through the meat grinder while I eat popcorn and laugh from my evil lair. Physics, and to be more precise electromagnetism, quantum field theory, general and special relativity are very interesting topics for me that I research in my spare time. That means that the premise of the story will be using that research to bring logic to magic. Stupid I know, magic is magic, but to me, there is no reason why there shouldn’t be a concrete set of rules there. But it is still magic and that allows me to play with some things that shouldn’t normally be possible. I will focus on evolving the main character and having her react as anyone normal would, from my perspective. There will be scenes of battle, gore, and sexy times, but I will not go into too many details, counting on your imagination to fill the gaps. There will be plenty of combat, even battles ranging from a few dozen, a hundred, and thousands of participants. I could go on but there isn’t much to say that would convince anyone to read, either you thought the title was cool or you liked the poster. Or not, but after several days in photoshop, that’s the best I could do. And the title was originally Sorceress with a Ph.D. The new one makes a little less sense but I like the ring of it more for some reason. I just hope someone enjoys what I write as much as I do. In the end that is the reason, I am doing this, because I enjoy putting my thoughts on paper and seeing the outcome. Credit for the art: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/e0o8nw
