《Happy Ending》Chapter 14: Tell me this isn't happening

Impossible.

It can't be.

That's a lie, right?

It must be a lie, right?

Please, tell me it's a lie!

Many questions were made in his mind. All of them because of her, the smiling girl that was looking at him.

Exactly the same as the game character, he thought.

She may know what happened to the game, he thought.

She is from the game, he never thought.

Imagine how shocking would be to know something everyone thought it didn't exist. Would you fear it and hide? Would you be excited about it? Or would you rather lie to yourself it didn't exist? Anyway, one thing wouldn't change: you saw something extraordinary.

But for Chris, it wasn't just that. The game disappearing from his room, the world forgetting all about it like it never existed, and now this girl, Midnight Pumpkin, one of the antagonists of the game, found him in real-life.

-Is something wrong? - She asked curiously.

-Huh?!

The girl didn't know what was inside Chris mind, but his long silence picked her interest. Not remembering she was still there with him, he was scared when the girl called him.

She looked strangely at him after his reaction.

-Wasn't that enough for you?

-No, I think it was a bit too much...

(How can I face her now?)

A game character in real life, impossible. Her abnormal strength, suddenly appearing in front of him, the way she used the scythe, her endurance after falling the stairs, Chris tried to think normally and lie to himself as he ignored all the facts about her he saw with his own eyes.

He could feel it, all his strength was leaving his body because of the shock. Without any energy, he sits down on the ground.

-Hey, are you alright?!

Seen Chris like that, the girl went to him, but she also didn't have enough energy to walk, falling in the ground with her face.

(...Is she really the same person that chased me before?)

She looked weak and clumsy, not having any shadow left from her killer image. If she was like a wolf hunting down its prey before, the girl now was just a puppy.

Looking at the girl like that, cleaning any remaining dirt and snow of the fall from her hair, was like she was just an ordinary girl of his age. Chris would be really happy if that was the case. If only that was the case.

-...How did it happen? - He asked with a weak voice.

-What are you talking about? - She asked back.

-...I'm serious, how did you...came here?

With all her will, the girl thought and thought of an answer to his question, and her only response was:

-I dunno! - She said with a smile on her face like she did a good job.

-Of course you wouldn't know... - Said him, depressed.

There was no use. If only she knew that, Chris would at least think there was some sort of explanation for all that was happening, but even the girl hadn't any idea of it.

-But, I do remember something...

-Really?!

-Yes, it's something very crucial that I need tell you.

-Ok, ok! What is it?!

A sign of hope. There is a start for all of this! Chris thought as he waited for her to finish and-

-...I was very happy that I could finally meet you, Chris.

Without him noticing, she was too close to him. With his guard down, the girl hugged him from the front and whispered that line with a soft-spoken voice directly in his ear.

Instantly, Chris' face became red like a tomato. It wasn't like the forced hug from before; it was gentle and warm, almost like the girl's feelings were transmitted to him.

-W-w-w-what are you saying now?!

-So happy...so happy...so happy...so...happy...so...

As her head leans on his shoulder, the girl talked about her feelings until her eyes gave up and became unconscious while still embracing him. Listening to her soft breaths of sleep, Chris became more flushed.

He thought she was pretty before in the game, but seen her like this, very close to him, Chris finally realized she was truly a girl and not some two-dimensional character. She really existed.

While he was enchanted by her sleeping face, soon he noticed the situation they were in and was shocked.

(Wait a minute...what should I do now?!)

Alone with a girl in the park at late night. Furthermore, the both of them were dirtied and sweaty from the chase. If anyone saw them now, misunderstanding would be made.

-Hey, wake up! We need to discuss what to do now! Please, wake up!

In a desperate measure, Chris tried to shake the girl, hoping she would wake up, but his efforts were in vain. Just like a baby resting on his mother chest, the girl peacefully sleeps, leaving the boy to suffer alone.
