《Metamorph》15 The Spirit of the Forest

Myke aimed at the first ogre and pulled the trigger.
A sound of thunder resounded.
The accelerated aluminum particles turned right away into plasma and pierced the ogre as if it was made out of paper. The plasma beam hit the ground behind the ogre and exploded leaving a big hole.
The chest of the ogre evaporated from the heat in an instant and exploded.
All the monsters froze shocked from the unbelievable view in from of them.
Myke took a couple of steps back from the recoil. He took a more stable stance and aimed again. Even with the integrated recoil dampener, the rifle was hard to handle.
He already took some notes whit possible upgrades and improvements.
This time he chose a group of enemies lined in a line from his perspective. He pulled the trigger and the shot got through all of them like a hot knife through butter. All that left from them was a trail of gore and flesh.
First to get to their senses were the amarok wolfs. With heads low to the ground they started to howl, ignored their riders, and ran as fast as they could back to the forest.
Some of the goblin riders fell to the ground and started running screaming after the amaroks.
Myke aimed for the third time and took a shot at the next group leaving another trail of blood.
The monsters came to their senses and grasping the dire situation they are in they threw their weapons and ran in panic back to the safety of the forest.
Myke aimed for a fourth shot but at this moment a fast-moving big red dot appeared on the radar.
A couple of seconds later a giant wolf jumped out of the forest. The beast was at least four meters in height and eight meters in length.
It raised its head and howled aloud.
On his back was a huge goblin in shiny armor and a big bow.

The goblin looked around first to assess the situation and then focused his gaze at Myke. He immediately raised his bow and aimed at him. Myke did the same with the coil gun.
“Myke be careful!” Liana screamed at Myke pointing at the giant wolf. “Look behind the goblin knight. They kidnapped a dryad.”
All Myke could see was a tree trunk tied up at the back of the giant wolf.
The goblin knight used the confusion and shot.
The one-meter long arrow flew with high speed and hit Myke in the chest. Myke took a step back and looked at the arrow on the ground. The Arrow tip was broken from the impact but there wasn’t even a scratch on Myke’s armor.
He looked at the goblin. “My turn.” To avoid hitting the dryad he shot at the lowered head of the fenrir and hits it precisely between the eyes.
Blood splattered around but it was far away from Myke’s expectations.
It was only a scratch.
The fenrir raised its head and howled.
Liana screamed at Myke. “Shoot the goblin knight! This is our only chance.”
He immediately aimed at the goblin and shoot as far from the dryad as possible.
The goblin knight foresaw what will happen and tried to dodge but was still hit in the arm with the bow. The shot blew his arm away and with a scream, he fell from the fenrir.
Without any hesitation, Myke aimed and shot again. The fenrir reacted instantly and jumped in front of his master acting as his shield.
From the abrupt movement, the tree trunk at its back flew away.
The shot hit the fenrir and some more blood splattered.
The goblin knight jumped fort and back nervously and shouted panicked at the fenrir. The wolf grabbed him with its maw and ran away in the forest.
“This was freaking amazing! I can’t believe you forced a fenrir rider to run away. He was so freaking scared. I bet this was the first time for him.” Liana said this while running to the dryad.

Myke didn’t share her amazement. He was confused. “I don’t get it! Why was my weapon useless against this monster?” He said this inspecting the big coil gun in his arms.
“Are you kidding me? This was a freaking fenrir! It’s a tough magical bastard. No ordinary weapon can hurt it and you made the damn thing bleed twice.” She laughed aloud. “Did you see the face of the stupid gobbling? He was scared to the bones!”
She looked then with a more serious face at Myke. “Come quickly and help me.”
Myke threw the coil gun away and ran to Liana.
He was still thinking about what just happened and what Liana said.
He got more and more excited.
The magic was much more than he thought it is.
There was much more to it than just to control the other forces.
He saw again the limit of his knowledge and got excited about all the new stuff he had to learn.
There was a whole new science he had yet to study and conquer!
He looked at the tree trunk. “I don’t get it. This looks like a simple tree trunk.”
“This was the home of the forest spirit. She is still locked inside. The bastards imprisoned her in her own home.”
Myke frowned. “How can we help her?”
Liana placed her hands on the trunk and red light came out of them.
He saw the tree bark softening and opening as if it was made out of rubber.
Myke looked in amazement.
Inside of the tree was a beautiful little girl. It looked like a green brownish ten-year-old child covered in moos and tree leaves.
Two big scared eyes looked at Myke.
Its beautiful face had no mouth but Myke still heard her voice. It was in his head just like he heard Akira before.
‘Pease, don’t hurt this spirit.’
Liana smiled warmly at her. “You are safe now. We are here to help.”
The girl looked at the smiling Liana.
“She is just a child!”
“Don’t let her look confuse you. She is even much older than me.”
Myke didn’t want to be impolite but also, he wasn’t famous for his ability to talk to the ladies.
The curiosity prevailed in him. “And how old are you Liana?”
Liana looked at him frowning. “You can’t just ask the age of a lady!”
Myke looked guilty to the ground. “It was impolite of me, sorry.”
Liana laughed. “I’m just messing with you. I’ll turn this year two hundred and fifty.”
Myke gasped. “And how old is she then?”
‘This spirit sprout out of the ground six hundred twenty years ago.’
She looked at Myke with her big scared eyes.
The HUD showed her mana was depleted. Myke was scared to leave her like this.
“Will she be ok on her own?”
“No, not like this. The damn goblins destroyed her home. She is too weak now to be able to survive on her own and grow another one.”
“So, how can we help her?”
“We have to take her into the forest and help her grow a new home tree.”
“Ok, let’s go then.” Myke wasn’t very eager to enter the dangerous forest but he was even more concerned for the fragile dryad. Even though he knew her actual age she still looked to him like a small defenseless child.
She was listening carefully to them talking. After hearing his determination, she extended her arms to him just like a small child will do when wanting a hug.
Without any hesitation, he took her in his arms and they all went into the forest.

Anti-Hero: Journey of Fear
There is a story where the hero makes friends, completes quests, and saves the world. This is NOT that story. In the VR world of Fate: Experience Acute Realism, the main character cuts his way through both the players and NPCs alike. This story takes a close look at how a true full immersion VR would be played. The setting is an open VR world where the players struggle to survive with a lack of knowledge and the NPCs panic in regards to the Travelers invading their world. The anti-hero of this story is cold and calculating. Sparing no one from his reign of terror he gives into occasional bouts of kindness before he is forced back on the path of blood and tears. For where there is a hero who seeks to bring people together to help the world move forward, there is an anti-hero who brings people together to seize the world for himself. WARNING: This story contains extreme violence, in every single chapter. This story contains references to sex, but no explicit scenes. This story has light to mild swearing. My chapters normally range from 4,000 to 5,000 words. This story does not contain happy endings, middles, or even beginnings.
