《Metamorph》9 Metamorph

A beautiful young woman with a smirk on her face stood before Myke. The perfect curves of her body were underlined by the tide black leather clothes. She had her hair in a ponytail and her white face contrasted surrealistic to the black outfit.
Two red eyes looked with curiosity at Myke as she put her hands on her hips.
Myke admired her confidence. Even though she looked so small and fragile, she even has left her sword safely sheathed on her back.
Her eyes started glowing as she started slowly walking toward Myke.
She licked her lips, “Time for a snack”
Myke felt the magic coming from the beauty.
She tried to control the magic flow in his body, which in Mikes's case was futile. There was one thing about magic that Myke knew about and this was how to control the mana flow in his body.
With help from Akira, he adjusted the flow and assimilated the magic.
What amazed Myke more was that she used magic without a magic circle.
It was very weak magic though. At least that was what Myke felt.
‘Is this all she can do?’ He still had no idea what she wanted and why she behaved so strangely. Wasn’t she also a survivor like him?
“Are you hungry? I have some beans back in the treehouse.” He wanted to be friendly and pointed with his thumb at the forest behind him.
She froze immediately, the smirk disappeared from her face, the glowing in her eyes faded and they grew bigger.
Myke was never good with the ladies, but even so, wasn’t this a little bit too dramatic?
“If You don’t like beans, I may have some corn, and maybe some cans with peas too.”
Her eyes started glowing with high intensity. Myke could see her mana radiation increasing and her MP rapidly falling. Just in a couple of seconds, her MP got below twenty-five.
What was she trying to achieve? Seeing how fast her MP drops he got concerned about her well-being.
He disabled the concealing skill and stepped forward in a threatening manner. “Please stop this!”

The glow in her eyes disappeared and she stepped back. The sun was already up and the skin on her face glittered from the sweat.
“How is this possible? Who the hell are you?” She asked.
Seeing the pretty girl trembling before him Myke felt pretty bad. He couldn’t bear seeing her like this.
He smiled and made his voice as soft and friendly as he could. “Hi, I’m Myke, what is your name?”
She relaxed a bit.
“I’m Liana” She stuttered.
After this, she took a more stood up position and repeat with more confidence.
“I’m Liana Sweetblood,” she said while placing her hand on her chest and bowing her head. She looked like a noble from the middle ages introducing herself to an important person.
“Are You also a survivor?”
She raised her head and looked at him with a more relaxed posture. “Yes, I am.”
Something was strange about her, but Myke ignored it. He was too excited finally meeting another survivor.
He didn’t lose any time and continued. “How long have You been here?”
“For a week now.” The fear in her eyes was gone completely. “You mentioned some damn food earlier?” She looked at him with hope in her eyes.
He was somewhat disappointed. This was just a couple of days more than him.
There was also something else that bothered him. He had a feeling that something wasn’t right. Was it the way she talked or the strange way she introduced herself? He wasn’t able to pin it down.
He answered with a friendly tone. “A yes, I picked some canned food from a store earlier. It’s in the treehouse, come I’ll share it with You.”
She looked a bit confused but smiled. “I’m so bloody hungry, even human food will make me happy now.”
They walked back into the forest. With help from Akira, he knew the right direction to the treehouse.
“Sorry for scaring you earlier. I didn’t expect a human to be in the damn treehouse” She looked at him with the edge of her eyes.

“Don’t mind it, I overreacted. I suppose I was a little bit on edge after I barely escaped from the zombies.”
Hearing this she frowned. “Damn zombies!”
Soon they were back into the treehouse.
Liana looked at the hole on the back wall.
“Sorry about that!”
“Don’t worry about it, I don’t plan to stay here any longer anyway.”
Myke’s backpack was still lying on the floor. He took out two cans from the backpack and used the knife to open the first one.
He then handed it to Liana. “Here you go. I hope it’s ok for you, unfortunately, I don’t have a spoon.”
Liana looked shocked at the can. “Is this food?”
“Yes, I know it looks bad from the outside, but canned food can be good for a very long time if unopened.”
She took the can and sniffed at it.
“How is this possible?” She asked with a doubtful expression on her face.
Her stomach gurgled and she finally overcame her reluctance. Using two fingers as a spoon she took some beans from the can and put them in her mouth.
“Wow, this is freaking damn good!” her eyes widened, and she spoke in a higher pitch. “If I knew these stupid cans are food, I wouldn’t have to starve for a damn week.”
'She curses a lot' Myke thought. 'But even so, she looks cute while doing it.'
She ate the whole can in less than five seconds. Then she started licking the can and the two fingers she used.
“Do you like another one?” Myke asked looking at her.
She nodded and grabbed the can from his hands as soon as he opened it.
“Hey, don’t rush it, I have enough food in the backpack and later we can go get some more.”
She nodded while swallowing the food without chewing.
After she ate two more cans, she finally relaxed.
She sat on the floor and leaned on the wall.
“Was your party attacked by a damn zogre? I can’t imagine an adventurers party with a friskingly strong magician like you, get beaten by damn stupid zombies.”
Myke was dumbfounded by this question. What was she talking about?
“I woke up alone. What about you?”
Myke got curious. Were there other survivors? What happened to them?
But Liana looked also confused.
“What the hell do you mean by woke up alone? Woke up from what?” she asked.
“I woke up in a strange cocoon, barely got alive out of it! Wasn’t it like this in your case?”
For Myke’s biggest surprise Liana jumped in an instant as far as she could from him.
“When?” She asked with a serious tone.
“About three days ago, why?” Suspicious grew in Myke.
“This is damn impossible! You are lying!” Liana almost screamed.
Myke looked dumfounded at the trembling girl.
‘Why is she so scared?’ he thought.
“What is the matter, Liana? What do you know about the cocoon?”
But she wasn’t listening. She was in a world of her own now and continued muttering to herself.
“That is impossible, there shouldn’t be any new damn new metamorphs. The last one came over twenty-three years ago. And he looks also so freaking human! But this stupid power, and the knowledge, can it be?” she muttered to herself more and more.
“Hey!” Myke shouted at her and she jumped scared. “What the hell is a metamorph?” he asked demanding.
Liana rose her right hand and pointed shaking with her index finger at him. “You! You are a damn metamorph!”
He had no idea what she meant, but it seems that it mattered a lot to her. But then, wasn’t she also just a survivor like him?
“And what are you?”
“Don’t mind me” She said with a trembling voice and head hanging down. “I’m just a simple stupid vampire.”
Myke just now realized what was bothering him all this time. They spoke the whole time in the new language he learned from the Soul Network and he didn’t even notice it.

Old Riding Author Lunatic Asylum
Just off the A19, in the dark, incomprehensible lands known as Yorkshire, there lies a town. A town where shadow-silent alleys glint with the secret hunger of knives. Where blood soaks the chipboard window shutters of forsaken terraces stretching off into the night. Where the smog-choked air rattles with the depraved laughter echoing out from clubs that can only generously be described as post-apocalyptic. Well, that’s Middlesbrough. But down the A19 a bit (an impossibly long way down, actually) there lies another town: Raughnen, in the ancient, forgotten Old Riding. It is an equal match in muggery and thuggery alike. It also has magic spells and pointy wizard hats. And now, across the miles and across all sensibilities, a pretty nasty power (a magic one) calls out for its pretty nasty counterpart (a decidedly unmagic one): a proper sound Boro lad. Nothing good can come of it. This is a collection of one novella and four connected short stories: I. A Yorkshire Summoning II. Old Riding Day Trip (the novella) III. Heaven is a Parmo IV. Death on the 66 V. Death on the 257 In total, this comprises 34 chapters totalling around 35,000 words, so try not to worry. It will be over relatively quickly. There are three more short stories with more tenuous links to the core collection: Rush, Paper Round and Scenario 79: Sausage Fingers, all of which can be found in my collection Short Records of Misadventure. Reading these may allow you to make more sense of certain parts of the story, if any sense is to be made at all. NOTE: There are instances of prejudice and discrimination within these stories, including elements of sexism and ageism, which are purely the thoughts and actions of the characters involved and which certainly do not reflect my own views on these matters. ANOTHER NOTE; A WARNING, PERHAPS: This can get a bit weird. In less than 150 pages, we have four viewpoints, first and third person narratives, and a completely disjointed plot with lots of gaps, dead ends and no real resolution. Also ZERO lunatic asylums. It's all a bit odd. If that sort of thing isn't your cup of tea, which it most likely isn't, it might be best to move on now.

8 117A Wish
This is a story where there are no heroes and no villains. This is a tale about revenge, despair, and hope. This is a story where the truth is constantly hidden deep beneath the surface, and nothing is ever as it initially appears. The world is a stage. Every character has their part to play before their exit. They are actors, dancing on a stage set for them while searching for the truth behind the façade. Only time will tell whether they will be able to escape their predestined fate, to search for their happy end, or whether the promised end is nothing more than, a wish. Author's Note: Update will be very unpredictable as I travel quite a bit for my work.
