《Metamorph》5 Treehouse

Covered in blood on the floor Myke struggled for his life.

For the mindless zombies, he was just the next snack. Ignoring his punches and kicks the zombies wanted only one thing – to eat him alive.

Myke screamed again and tried to push them away.

“Go away you rotten monsters”

All he wanted now was for the zombies to get blown away.

Only if he was a bomb. Only if he could blow up and shred them to pieces.

With this thought on his mind, he noticed some strange feeling going through his body. He felt energy building up deep inside of him.

“Aaaaahhhhh” – he screamed even louder

Eaten alive, the pain was intense, but even so, he still felt the energy building up further inside his body.

For a moment he thought he will explode like a bomb for real and smiled.

“I will take you with me you rotten bastards!”

He wasn’t thinking clearly anymore. The pain softened and he felt the energy filling his body.

With an evil grin on his face distorted from the pain, he felt the energy reaching its limit.

The air around him started to vibrate and emit a buzzing sound like a high voltage transformer.

He knew that something was about to happen. Something big and powerful. Something that will blow everything in the immediate surrounding. Something he created!

Mike closed his eyes.

At the next moment, the energy busted out of his body all at once.

An immense force pushed with high-speed everything away in his immediate surrounding.

Even the air.

In total silence, he caught a glimpse of the zombies splattered in all directions.

In the next moment, the air came back.

With a thunder, the air pressure jumped high for a blink of a moment. Pain stroke his ears and left him deaf for a while hearing only a loud painful peep sound.

He was lying on the floor, totally exhausted, bleeding, and in pain.

But he was alive!

He couldn’t believe his luck. What did just happen? How did he do that? Why was he alive?

‘I did this, I blew them away’ – this thought made him smile

No time to relax. This situation must never repeat. Time for a new plan.

The new plan had only one step: Run fast away and find a shelter unreachable for the zombies.

The only thing that Myke could think of quickly was the treehouses in the central park. In the middle of the central park, there was a climbing park with some treehouses in it. Even if they aren’t there anymore the trees should be still there and he could manage to rebuild them.

Myke put all his strength together and stood up slowly. Everything was hurting like crazy.

Ignoring the pain he managed to stand up.

His backpack was near the wall five meters away.

‘Great, now let’s get out of here’ – he grabbed his backpack and ran to the wall jumped at it, and pulled himself out.

His body was amazing. Even now it was still functioning.

Out of the building, Myke started running in the direction of the central park.

This time he was happy that there was no life to be seen on the streets.

Even though he felt like superman in his new body, he was pretty exhausted and severely injured. He needed desperately to rest and eat, but there was no way, he would stop in an area where the zombies can get to him.

After running for more than half an hour Myke was almost at his destination. Running for a while through the city he was able better to grasp its state. The city was destroyed and empty. Most of the buildings were more or less damaged and the streets were full of rubbles.

‘Was the city bombarded?’

Was there a war he didn’t know about? Maybe some chemical or biological weapon has turned everybody into a zombie.

But who would attack the EU? The Russians? Maybe terrorists?

There were too many weird things going on here. He didn’t have enough information and all he saw was illogical.

Even the laws of physics didn’t make sense anymore.

He had some impossible new powers and the dead were walking around as if it was normal.

There was no plausible explanation for this, and this made Myke crazy.

Not having enough information and not be able to rely on his logic. That was for Myke even worse than the zombies.

He needed answers. He needed them desperately, more than food an air.

This was his most important goal. Find what happened with him and with this world.

After securing the shelter, the next step was to search for information. Search for other survivors who can give him some answers.

At least there should be other people like him, survivors that came out of a cocoon.

He decided to leave the city if he can’t find anyone alive here in the next couple of days.

If this city was the target of the attack, maybe the smaller villages around have survived and will have some answers for him.

Lost in his thoughts he finally saw the central park.

It didn’t look like a park anymore but like a forest. Even if there were damages from the bombardment nature had taken over and now it was just a dense forest.

For a moment he wonders if there were any wild animals in here, but with all the zombies around this wasn’t very probable.

It was much harder to move in the forest, but Myke was determined to continue. Harder for him meant also harder for the zombies.

He couldn’t see much of the old world here. Just some pieces of benches here and there, but that was all. He knew that there wasn’t much hope for the treehouses, but still, he wanted to see with his own eyes.

After a while, he finally reached the place where the treehouses should have been.

The place looked just like the rest of the forest.

Suddenly on his face was a look of surprise and amazement.

There was a perfectly intact treehouse. It looked like it was built not long ago and still in use.

It didn’t look very sturdy though. As if it was built in a hurry but still it was perfect for a day or two.

His heart started beating faster. This was the proof he was searching for. There were other survivors and now he may even have a chance to finally meet them.

This was great news! He got excited, jumped on the tree, and started climbing.

In a short time, he stood on the small wooden terrace right before the door. Some ropes were going to the neighboring trees, maybe functioning as an emergency escape.

He put his hand on the doorknob and pushed the door.

It was unlocked.

He opened it and entered the treehouse.
