《The Farmer》Chapter 28

Inside the half empty shed where the food as well as the materials they gathered are stored, Jack unpacked every sack that he obtained from his travels.

“I used up almost every resource we have.” Bob said helping with the materials.

“Turns out we need the space anyway so it’s all good.” He added.

Lying on the floor are various leather, tailored into clothing. As well as clothes made from wool, cotton and silk.

Jack then made his way on to the last sack making a chinking sound just from carrying it. Then he handed it to Bob. Thinking it wasn’t filled with anything heavy, Bob almost topple when he catches the bag.

“What’s this?” Bob slowly put it down and opens it.

The bag is filled with gold coins. The same kind that he uses.

“800 gold in total my liege.”

“Where did you get this?” Bob asks hysterically.

“From the trading sire.”

“I told you not to rip them off right?”

“Of course. Those were obtained by proper means.” Jack replied.

Bob looks at him suspiciously.

“As I have stated in the letters. Agta hunts during the day while I obtain information. Every carcass remaining is then handed over to me to be cleaned before I trade it in the next day.”

They completed stacking the materials on the shelves built on the wall then went back to the house. The ladle-wielding scarecrow fix some breakfast while Bob sees the wolves headed towards the direction of the cave.

“There’s so many things I wanted to ask you but I couldn’t include it in the letter. And then I can’t remember it now.”

Jack turns his head to Bob right across the table, fumbling his thoughts.

“Would those questions involve Bara or Nesbitt?” Jack inquired.

“Yes!” Bob shouts then calms himself.

“Bara, as well as his family is under the curse that we have yet to identify. The same with Nesbitt in Cinder City. But they are safe, at least physically.”

Bob puts his hand over his face as he slumps over the table.

“Is there anything you learn that could help us.”

“The knowledge I have obtain are incredibly helpful but not that could help us in the current situation. Piecing them together would prove useless without any leads.”

Bob nods in agreement before standing up and paces around the house.

“If I may ask, are those the new golems?” Jack points to the creatures right across the field from the window.

“Yes. I named them from the Zoidons but so far we only have the Scales and the Bulls.”

“Their forms are quite… interesting.”

“I did say I’m not the artist.” Bob remarks

They then went to the field where a group of 7 are gathers, standing idly, waiting for any commands from the farmer. Jack inspects the golems closely.

“With your permission sire, I could work on their bodies for improvement.”

“Really?” Bob asks while glancing at the crystal golems being held up by ropes before adding “…Suit yourself”

A week has passed and Bob anxiously stares at the horizon for any incoming adventurer. Below the farthest lookout are golems, the same golem commanded to meet up with Jack when they arrive.

Then there it was. A silhouette, the same imagery that made a mark in his mind when he first met them. Walking casually closer to where the 1st golems are stationed.

“Tell Rocky and Stony to let the adventurer pass”

All 9 of the golems follows his command but immediately he shouts.

“No! not all of you.” Making them stop at their current position.

“Just you, I guess.” He points at the one closest to him.

Bob lets out a gruntled voice and thought ‘They always move as a group. I should ask Jack for help about it.’

Without taking his eyes off of the adventurer walking closer to the farthest lookout he prowls through the bushes at a safe distance and observes the adventurer. He immediately comes upon the road that the farmer made, the one filled with traps.

‘This makes things easier.’ The adventurer thought.

Carelessly walking through the dirt road, the adventurer manages to trigger a trap that sends a swinging log on his way. Unable to react in time he was pushed back for quite a distance. But he didn’t die.

The perplexed adventurer crawls his way out of the bushes wondering what just happened. He looks around but he couldn’t see anyone. He then swipes the air in front of him and looks intensely at it.

‘He must have brought out the prompt. If only I could see them’ Bob thought while carefully observing from a far.

‘If I remember correctly the prompt contains information regarding their surrounding and their status.’ Bob mused.

The adventurer proceeds with his journey on the path, triggering almost every trap that the farmer has set, excluding the pit falls. Which seems too obvious for him to fall into.

It surprises Bob that the adventurer has not died yet despite being cut and thrown off for every trap that he triggers. But it was even more surprising to him that he manages to trigger most of his traps that would’ve been easily avoided if he pays as much attention as he did to the pitfalls.

It is already in his knowledge that the adventurer uses some sort of liquid to remove any if not all damages to their body by drinking it. Yet the result still amazes him, that for every trap triggered he would drink a vial filled with red liquid that would remove the cuts around his body.

“Who would set up a trap in this place? It’s like it’s not even for animals!” The adventurer mumbles.

The adventurer notices the lookout atop the tree at the hill on the middle of the peninsula. Inspecting it closer, he learns that he could climb it.

Fearing that some of his notes and resources might be discovered by the adventurer he finally shows himself. With a loud and roaring voice, he cries, in attempt to scare him off.

“Who goes there?” He emerges from the bushes with a drawn bow. His axe over his shoulders and the machete by his waist.
