《Asura》Chapter 26-The Other Function Of the Dream Orb

“Heavenly Meridian,” Lintian said.
“No really,” Harris said in disbelief.
Seeing, that he didn’t believe it Lintian gave up and whispers, “Asura.”
“WHAT!” shouted Dr. Harris as he jumps back. The last bit sent him into extreme
shock. Scratching his head, chuckling maniacally and grinning from ear to ear.
“Are you ok?” Lintian asked awkwardly.
“Yeah. I’m fine. You really have an Asura’s body?” Harris questions in hopes to reaffirm his answer.
“Yes.”
“Hahaha. This is great. Great news for both us. Hahahaha.”
Lintian looks at him like he has gone crazy. Since he was laughing and giggling to himself maniacally. Maybe I should leave Lintian thought. My uncle did say to stay away from crazy people.
“Lintian I want you to listen to me careful. Your family has probable already told you but you should know that having an Asura’s body is a blessing but also a curse. They should have also told you that you should stay hidden. I’m surprise you told me so easily,” Dr. Harris said.
“It’s weird, I have this feeling that I can trust you for some reason,” Lintian said aloofly. Lintian couldn’t describe it but something in his brain subconsciously kept telling him it’s ok. Like an echo inside your soul or the moments where you have the word at the tip of your tongue but it won’t come out.
“Anyway. How many demonic beast have you absorbed so far?” Dr. Harris asks with concern.
“Four.”
“So it should not affect you yet. In the past fifteen years I have been doing my research project on Asuras hoping to harness its power. If we are able to figure out how their veins work and what makes their body special we can use that research to further our cultivations and maybe everyone can have 54 open meridian points. I have been trying to find an Asura body in secret to test out my theories but who would have thought you the perfect test subject would land at my doorsteps. Ten years I search with no results and you land at my front door. Starting tomorrow you will report to me and train under my guidance,” he said excitedly.
“…..” Lintian listens but was a bit confused as what he was saying.

“Lintian I want to tell you something about Asuras that is not know to the public. It is also the reason why Asuras are viewed as evil and demonic. From what I know everyone time you absorb a demonic beast’s soul and qi you will use it to open meridian points. You must also have felt your cultivation go up whenever you absorb one. This is because the beast’s soul and qi will mix with yours and help you level up. This isn’t particularly bad but over time this energy will start to take affect on your brain and soul. Filling your thoughts with greed, lust, anger, paranoia until it consumes you. In truth you are not the first Asura I worked with,” Dr. Harris said slowly and cautiously. When he said that last sentence his gaze shifts the horizon outside the window. His eyes and face drooped down. His eyes told a story of guilt, sadness and regret.
“Are you ok?” Lintian asked out of concern.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” Dr. Harris said instantly and his hand quickly wiped away the tear that was about to appear, “you can go for now. Meet me tomorrow morning.”
“Ok,” Lintian answers and left. He felt a little worried but he also felt relief. In being able to tell someone his deepest secret in a land so far away from home.
“Asura the beings who challenges God,” Dr. Harris chuckles sadly while still staring at that horizon outside the window.
Lintian went back to class that day avoiding most of the kids. A lot of the kids don’t really care who got picked since they felt that they didn’t have the ability to get picked anyway. The kids in the top 100 of course felt disdain because if Lintian wasn’t picked one of them would have. These kids have already form groups. So the leader’s disdain causes their followers to follow suit. There are some groups who do not care at all.
Lintian got home and felt a bit down in the dump. Chelsey was picked by another instructor in a different group so he didn’t get to see her for the rest of the day.
Furthermore he was getting called trash, stupid, weak, and all kinds of insults all day from kids who wanted to please their leader. As smart and mature as Lintian is he is still a kid and comments by peers will still get to him. There were many times throughout the day where he just wanted to let loose and give those kids to a bloody beating.

Lying in bed Lintian tried to calm himself down. Anger erupts every time he thinks about it. Still fuming he went into the kitchen to grab food such as a whole tub of ice cream and a bunch of other snacks back into his room. He let Kyuri out of the box and began to binge eating. After fuming and eating for a while he slips into a deep sleep. He enters his dream state like every other night, except tonight there is a tier two wild tusk boar running around inside a 35 meter pentagon shape arena.
He also saw his mother standing right next to the arena.
“Lintian it seems you have discovered how to use the other feature of this dream orb.”
“Huh?”
“The dream orb can help you improve techniques but it can also help you practice those techniques by getting opponents. Every time you kill a demonic beast they will leave behind a beast core crystal. This core holds the DNA and qi of the beast. While you absorb the qi essence of the beast this dream orb will absorb the core itself. It will take one day for it to reconstruct its DNA and make an essence clone of it inside your dream. When you enter that arena it will do battle with you. Every weakness and strength will be based on reality. Furthermore it can also learn a bit and get stronger. Lastly you can keep up to five demonic beasts at the same time in this dream world. Once you absorb a sixth core the first one will be erased. Just play around with it and you will understand most of its functions. Now I got to go bye,” Linmei said and disappears.
“Interesting” Lintian whispered as he stepped into the arena. The boar’s eyes flash red. It began its charge at Lintian. Lintian saw this and tried to step back out but it seems an invisible wall blocked his way and he got smashed into bits by the boar. A streak of pain spread out from his chest. He then sees himself outside the arena again.
“I died?” Lintian said in disbelief.
He steps back in again. This time he operated the emperor’s step to dodge. Lintian suddenly realizes he can’t use his uncle’s knife or any weapons in here. He dodged again and tried to punch it. It was like us punching a steel wall at full strength. His whole arm went numb as blood drip from his knuckles. Lintian realizes he can’t beat it with his current strength. I might as well get use to its movements thought Lintian and practiced avoiding the boar’s charge all night.
He woke up the next morning feeling sore all over his body. Lintian dragged his sore body to the bathroom. Afterwards he went to school like usual.
He met Chelsey outside and greeted her before disappearing to Dr. Harris’s office.
When Lintian open the door and went in, there were two students sitting there already. It was a boy and a girl. The boy looks like he is a hothead, while the girl had a really timid look to her. The boy had black hair with a reddish highlight trim on his hair. The girl Lintian thought was pretty cute looking but not enough fr him to fall in love on first sight. Lintian automatically assumes they are part of the two that Dr. Harris picked. I thought it was supposed to be five? Lintian was thing to himself.
“Hi my name is Lintian what about you guys?” Lintian introduced himself.
“Lintian my name is Alex the strongest warrior in the world,” greeted Alex who Lintian thought had a pretty idiotic grin on his face.
“What about yours?” Lintian asked the girl.
“My name is Celyis,” said Celyis very, very softly.
“Sorry I couldn’t hear you can you say it again?” asked Lintian.
“My name is Celyis” she said a bit louder this time.
“Her name is Celyis,” interrupted Alex.
“Oh. Nice to meet you all,” Lintian greets.
Dr. Harris walks through the door and saw them talking to each other. “I see you guys all met. For the next 3 years here you will be teammates. Let’s all get along.”

CW: Contains mildly graphic scenes of violence/death, topics of unwanted pregnancy/abortion, scientific experimentation on sapient beings, depression/suicide, grief, and trauma. The tone of this fiction is often dark and distinctly dystopian in lighter shades of Margaret Atwood, though where there is darkness there is always hope and light. On Hiatus Until September When the School Year Begins and Mom This story takes a considerable amount of time and mental energy to complete. I thought I had enough backlog and time to post it as a serial while COVID kept my child home from school, but it turns out while I can quickly write other pieces, I cannot produce the quality I need with this one at an acceptable rate. We'll resume in September when my days are much freer. Thank you for your patience and stay tuned for a different storytelling romp more suited for a serial platform in the meantime.
