《Asura》Chapter 21-Test Part 1
Advertisement
Lintian went to school today like usual. Except today was testing day. Today is just a field test of the student’s stats. They would test strength, speed, defense, stamina and combat knowledge.
Lintian walks into class in his training uniform today and sat down in the back corner next to Chelsey. Chelsey was dressed in the same white training uniform and she still looks adorable. Aside from talking with Chelsey Lintian was like a lone wolf not really talking to anyone. It wasn’t that he doesn’t want to talk to them but they all look like they know each other already and the groups were already formed. So Lintian just sits in class blending in.
“Lintian hi,” greeted Chelsey.
“Hi Chelsey.”
“Are you ready for the physical test today?”
“I guess so. There’s nothing that we can really do.”
“Oh. Do you want to eat with us later?”
“Sure. Thank you.”
“No problem.”
“Hey so I have a question. Are there anything done with these scores?”
“My sister said these scores are really just ranking in the class. You know those ten head instructors?”
“Yeah, what about them?” question Lintian.
“Well apparently base on the scores they will choose 5 personal disciples each. It’s not that big of a deal since they are only in the Master realm but they have resources that can help the students cultivate faster plus every years they have competitions for 100 tier 4 pills. Usually 1 tier 4 pill goes for 8,000 qi stones. The instructors usually let the students keep it as a graduation gift since they usually want bragging rights.”
“So which instructor usually wins?”
“Instructor for group C usually wins. He won for the last 4 years and hasn’t lost since.”
“Who usually comes last?” Lintian asks feeling like he already knows the answer.
“Our group,” she said hanging her head down in shame.
“Oh,” Lintian really didn’t care who wins or lose since he wasn’t supposed to attract attention anyway, but he still had a competitive side to him that he was suppressing really hard. It’s like when you really want to buy this ice cream to eat but you’re on a diet so you can’t.
2 more classes went by and it was finally time for group F to be tested. All six groups were led into the gym. The whole gym was the size of a football field plus 10 meters. The gym itself was 30 meters tall and half way up is a track field that extended out from the wall. There were windows all around on the second floor. At the bottom floor there was a 100 meter sprint set up. One machine was in the center, another machine near the corner with the mats on the wall opposite to it. Also there were two small round arenas to the sides of the machine in the middle.

Everyone stood in the gym and there were 6 instructors here including the head. There were at least 250 students there.
“Is everyone ready?!” yelled Mr. Mutai.
“YES?!” everyone shouted.
“Get on the track field above!” yelled Mr. Mutai.
Everyone ran onto the stairs and headed to the second floor and was at the starting line. The width of the track field extending out from the wall was 10 meters all around so everyone could fit on it perfectly fine.
“RUN 100 LAPS NOW!” he yelled from the first floor.
“Huh?” everyone replied. Everyone began discussing among themselves. Are they crazy? 100 laps? My mother doesn’t even make me run that much. This is like running 25 miles.
“HURRY UP AND RUN WE DON’T HAVE ALL DAY!”
All the kids began running. Lintian followed behind him. After 20 laps everyone began to sweat but Lintian didn’t really feel much. He usually runs 10 laps around his family’s villa. It was at the very least 80 times this size. Another 50 laps went by and almost everyone speed slowed down. Lintian maintains a constant pace trying to blend in but accidently was at the front. He began to drastically lower his speed. Another 20 laps went by and at least half of them were panting. Sweat began to pour down like a waterfall. There were five kids running twenty meters ahead of everyone. Lintian stayed way in the back so he doesn’t get first again.
When it finish everyone lies down onto the floor panting. Even the five guys in the front were sweating and panting. Lintian was not even sweating but he lay down on the floor anyway gasping for air.
They showed everyone’s results were presented on the jumbotron at the center of the ceiling. It said stamina and listed the results on top from the first to last. The name Anthony Peaks was first and Wei Lintian was last. “Oops” thought Lintian. He wasn’t supposed to get last, but he felt so bored at the snail like pace the average students were going at that he forgot to run back to the middle.
Next was a test of defense. Since Lintian was last before he went first in this test.
Lintian stood in front of a machine that had a giant blood red color boxing glove in the middle.
“You ready? “ Ms. Mcdonald asked.
“Yes,” Lintian replied.
The glove shot itself at Lintian like a bullet launched from a gun. Lintians instinct kicked in and used Tui of the Emperor’s step and moved backwards to lessen the impact. The movement was almost invisible to the naked eye. Since his body moving back was at a speed just slightly slower than the punch. In the end Lintian was sent flying backwards and his body crashed into the cushion mat in the back. A number appeared on the jumbotron.

(DEFENSE: 35)
No one knew whether this score was low or high since they were new to this too. Next a big built kid went up. He’s just fat. The punch came instantly and fatty was sent flying back too. Another number appeared on the jumbotron 731. At that instant everyone has a vague feeling that Lintian’s number was too low and started to subconsciously mark him as trash. Last in stamina and even last in defense. Everyone took turns on the machines and the highest one was 1447. It was Anthony Peaks again. He only moved back a two steps.
After that was speed. To test speed they set up a 100 meter dash. Lintian was first again because he came last before. “I already came last in the last two test so I can’t be first here.” He thought to himself.
When he walked over for the speed test a starting block hologram appeared at the starting line. He places his leg on it. The hologram was solid.
“Whenever you’re ready,” Ms. Edward said and then turns to Dr. Harris who was at the side of her and whispers, “Bartho why are you making the last person go first?”
He just smiles and didn’t reply to her. She sighed and looks back at Lintian.
Lintian blasts off from the block and falls face first onto the floor not even an inch from the block. His face was brighter and redder than a ripe tomato. Everyone grinned. Lintian endured it and got up and kept running. One of his shoelaces was untied so he had to control his speed to prevent himself from falling. It must have become loose from the 100 laps he thought.
[Lintian 18.4 seconds]
Everyone was laughing and giggling during his entire 100 meter dash. It couldn’t be helped. It was unexpected. Some even criticized him as being trash, and maybe even stupid. Dr. Harris was on the floor laughing so hard his fist was smashing the floor. It has never happen in his 6 years of teaching here.
There was one girl who didn’t laugh but giggled. Chelsey thought it was cute.
Lintian didn’t have the balls to face everyone and walks back into the group head hung down in shame. His face still hurts from face planting the floor 4 times. Definitely throwing these shoes away he told himself.
Chelsey weaves through the crowd to meet up with Lintian.
“Are you ok?”
“Chelsey yeah I’m fine. These stupid shoes,” he sighed.
“It was cute though.”
“Sure.”
The speed test finished and Lintian came last again. The longest time after him was 14.6 seconds and it was by the fattest girl in class. This time a kid name Flen Speed got first with the record of 8.7 seconds. Anthony Peaks name was second with 9.3 seconds. These kids were only at the first stage of the refinement realm. Once they enter the second stage their speed will be at 5 seconds at the 100 meter dash. Two times faster than the average Olympic runner.
The last test before combat is strength or offensive power. The machine stood at the center of the gym. It was a rectangle box with mats at the front.
“Lintian you ready? Punch the mat as hard as you can. It will calculate the impact and give you a score. Any questions?” asked Mr. Robinson. He felt kind of bad for Lintian since the speed test was pretty embarrassing and putting him to go first is like putting him at the spot, but it was the head instructor’s rules so he couldn’t do anything.
“No I’m fine,” Lintian answered.
Lintian was a little piss at the earlier score. I’ll blow this one away and reclaim my dignity he told himself. He knows he has a better physic then everyone here so he didn’t need to use qi to beat everyone. Through all this emotion his logical side was clouded and completely forgot to only go for average.
He launch himself at the testing machine raised his fist and getting ready to punch but a beam of light flashed out of nowhere causing him to close both his eyes and he swung out his fist. His fist scratched the mat.
“Huh?” Steam could literally be seen rising out from him. He was so embarrassed he wanted to die right now. He looked to the second floor and saw a girl with a pocket mirror out. A beam of sunlight hit it and was reflected right onto Lintian. Wow? Lintian thought. My luck just my luck.
The jumbotron was flashing bright red.
[NEW RECORD!!!]
[NEW RECORD!!!]

Everyone began laughing again. Lintian walk away and thought to himself I’m going to beat them up in the combat test and see if they will keep laughing. He smiled evilly for a quarter of a second before it return back to normal. Dr. Harris saw that flash of smile and grinned to himself. An idea just popped into his head and he also smiled evilly to himself and chuckles.

A Mildly Odd Reality Breaker
Omar receives an unexpected visitor who comes baring a gift—a "registration ticket"—in the form of a small metal card. The ticket is itself an offer to participate in the game, "Reality Break." Accepting this offer means that Omar will be able to perceive the true nature of reality where there is not one, but two dimensions of time, and in this second dimension history changes (and somewhat "frequently"). Along with this, he will also gain access to the "chronopause"; another reality that is not so much parallel to our own as it is perpendicular, which acts as both a place and the natural boundary between non-sequential points on the timeline. Using the chronopause, Omar will become a chrononaut with the ability to travel through time, and as a player, he will be given a cybernetic interface and his own portable extradimensional storage space. It's a strange conversation, but due to Omar's dismally short attention span, he only consciously hears that last bit about the portable pocket space, and that's only after the physics-defying void is opened in his living room and literally waved in front of his face. Reality is certainly stranger than most people realize, but then again, so is Omar. Thankfully, he responds well to shiny things, and for better or for worse, his chronic inattentiveness is the least of his psychological issues. Omar also has a mild form of "Oppositional Defiant Disorder" which presents itself as an occasional, arbitrary need to disobey others (especially authority figures). However, his oddest psychological issue by far is his "abnormally hyperactive" subconscious mind. Outwardly and consciously, Omar is a lazy, apathetic man-child prone to mildly asinine behavior. Subconsciously, he's some sort of genius capable of extraordinary feats of cognition. Most of the time, Omar is a (technically) functioning adult, but in order to live as such, he must rely entirely upon unusual abilities he's completely unaware of, despite the fact that he uses them regularly. Up until now, his life had merely been ridiculous, but now it was also a game. Note: The narrative style is that of a reliable narrator with a "3rd-person sarcastic" POV. This story takes place in the Reality Breakers/Chronopause universe.
