《Welcome to the Upward Bound System!》Day 3: Golden Deagle, Beyond the city walls, Chp. 18

Clone Oscar flicked his fingers through the air, seeming to be moving around unseen blue boxes. "System store, Human guns." He stated, looking through the system store to get a better understanding of these weapons called guns. A moment later Clone Oscar asked, "Are you seeking to purchase this so you can keep away from your enemies or as a backup weapon?"

"To keep distance if I can. I would prefer not to be an up close combatant." Dante stated his intentions.

It was then that he took notice of something Oscar's clone had said, "Near instant delivery for custom items?" He asked, making sure he had heard correctly.

"Yes. You design it and the system will make it. Many times in seconds or less, if you have the coin that is." Clone Oscar stated, with a smile.

Nodding Dante opened the system store. "Store. Guns." He stated, at which point the store page opened displaying a long list of different types of guns. He had played a lot of games in his life so with the store opened he tried some of his ideas out. "Thundergun, Call of Duty."

*PING*

To his half surprise the system did seem to have the gun, however.

Thundergun

A fictional weapon made real by the might of magic. Pulling the trigger of this portable arcane cannon causes a burst of compressed air to erupt from its barrel. While this effect produces little recoil on the user most objects within several meters of the muzzle will be propelled away at great speeds.

The sheer force created by this action is enough to result in near immediate death of many low level creatures.

Required mana per shot: 150

Mana capacity: 3,000

Costs 5,000 small gold coins

He read that bottom part multiple times. "I could buy it but from the wording I would rather try and remake the effect myself instead." He paused for a moment making a mental note to try and replicate the effect of the thundergun himself at a later time. 'This is more than I would like to spend. I could almost certainly get something better and more versatile as a custom order.' He thought before he spoke, "Hey do weapons from the store that have skills or similar effects grow with use?" He asked Clone Oscar, curious but already suspecting the answer.

"It all depends upon what you are looking for and how much you are willing to spend. You can buy these guns of yours but they would need to be enchanted for such things. To acquire items that are capable of growth can be quite cheap or very expensive. As I said, It all depends what you are looking for." Clone Oscar stated. Regarding his words for a moment Dante thought it through.

'I may have to keep buying and reselling the items I get if they cannot remain useful to me. That's not a pleasant thought. I will probably have to pay extra just to get more time out of the items, but so be it.' Dante thought before continuing on, "Moving on then, Gol..." Pausing once more to think, 'If I ask for a golden deagle is it going to give me a deagle made of gold? That would actually be a rather shitty gun.' He thought for a moment about the golden fiddle in the devil went down to Georgia, the beginnings of a smile forming upon his lips. Shaking that thought away he continued.

"Gold plated desert eagle pistol." He stated with as much specificity as he could think of at the moment. Another blue box appeared showing him a gold plated desert eagle pistol. It looked great but perhaps was a bit too flashy. He already had the golden cowboy hat, did he really need a golden deagle?

The moment before he spoke he spotted it. Towards the bottom of the page he saw something in the recommended section that caught his attention and refused to let it go. Clicking on the item to get a better look his eyes widened. The pistol he was looking at was muted chrome. Embedded into the both sides of the guns barrel in bold ornate golden lettering was the words, Desert Eagle.

In front of those words on both sides was a skull surrounded by what appeared to be golden bloodsplater. The pistol's sight, and hammer were gold, more than likely gold plated. The trigger, the safety, and the magazine itself were also the same golden color. The sides of its grip were a fine brown stained wood upon which seemed to be carved the symbol of a pheonix.

He thought it was awesome and he wanted to immediately buy it, but he reined in that impulse. He checked its price finding it to be 220 small gold coins. He rubbed his chin for a moment, turning to Clone Oscar, "These things can be custom, so does that mean I can buy them with enchantments?" Dante asked, only for the system to respond to his request.

Please state the nature of the desired enchantment.

Clone Oscar was seemingly too busy with what he was seeing to notice he had been spoken to. This didn't stop Dante from talking a little more though. "Never mind, I found it." He said as he returned to his shopping. He thought for a moment then asked, "Skills?" Immediately a list of what appeared to be low level skills appeared before him. "Also low level spells." Another blue box appeared. Next to every item on the lists was a cost to have it enchanted into his item.

From the lists he made his choices.

Skill: Mana bolt Lvl. 1 - When this enchantment is applied to your weapon you gain access to the skill, Mana Bolt. This skill can level as normal, awarding points as normal, through use of the weapon. You may have this skill upon multiple items, however they will share the power whichever weapon possesses the highest skill level for Mana Bolt. Skill level when wielded by user's other than the purchaser is subject to change. Mana cost, 10.

Cost: 50 small gold coins

Spell: Magic Missle - You create three glowing darts of magical force. Each dart hits a creature of your choice that you can see within range. Each dart deals, variable, force damage to its target. The darts all strike simultaneously, and you can direct them to hit one creature or several. Pouring in additional mana produces more darts and increases their damage output. Mana cost, 10

Cost: 250 Small gold coins

Spell: Mages Missile of Capturing- Sometime you don't want to kill the small creature, you just want to catch them. Produces three orbs of magical force. Each orb unerringly flies towards a target of your choice that you can see within range. When it arrives it produces a cage of force to entrap the target. An orb will not leave the caster's side of the chosen target is beyond the size limit for the orbs effect. The darts all act simultaneously, and you can direct them to hit one target or several. Directing multiple orbs to a single target allows for them to combine their effects. Pouring in additional mana produces more orbs and increases their size capacity. Mana cost, 100.

Base size: 1 cubic foot

Cost: 500 small gold coins

Dante debated with himself for a moment if he should get a certain spell enchanted onto the gun or if he should buy it, and cast it, himself. However, in the end, the idea of casting that spell with a gun won out in his mind. That spell was of course the answer to every problem. Where would any accomplished wizard be without this spell?

Spell: Fireball - A bright streak flashes from your weapon to a point you choose within range and then blossoms with a low roar into an explosion of flame. Objects and creatures in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on that point suffers, varrible, fire damage. The explosion spreads around corners. It ignites flammable objects in the area. Mana cost, 50.

Cost: 300 small gold coins

He considered getting it enchanted to cast Knock and in the end his wallet allowed for it so he sprung for it.

Spell: Knock - Choose an object that you can see within range. The object can be a door, a box, a chest, a set of manacles, a padlock, or another object that contains a mundane or magical means that prevents access. A target that is held shut by a mundane lock or that is stuck or barred becomes unlocked, unstuck, or unbarred. If the object has multiple locks, only one of them is unlocked. If you choose a target that is held shut with an arcane lock, that spell is suppressed for a number of minutes equal to your Int, during which time the target can be opened and shut normally.

When the spell is cast, a loud knock, audible from as far away as 300 feet, emanates from the target object. Mana Cost, 20.

Cost: 200

He watched as the enchantments stacked up. "This is awesome, there is only one problem though." He stated as his face of glee became one of quiet wondering. "Replace the inner workings to allow for a mana battery. Even if I can't fire actual bullets from the gun anymore." He stated as the system produced another blue box.

This modification will increase the price of the weapon by a significant amount.

Capacity shall determine the new price of the weapon.

Please choose the weapons mana capacity.

500 Small gold coins per 1,000 mana capacity

Please note mana may be input by the user but cannot be taken back out by means other than expenditure.

"4,000 Mana capacity." He stated, as the total for his purchase appeared.

Enchanted Desert Eagle

Base weapon price has been set to 300 small gold coins

Current Cost: 3,600 small gold

Would you like to purchase the knowledge of Basic Firearms training?

Cost: 50 small gold coins

Yes / No ?

Dante smiled, clicking yes he felt once more as that small doorway in the back of his mind opened up allowing for experience to come through. He received a notice that he had gained a small bit of experience but it wasn't enough for him to level up. Once more the doorway closed as quickly as it had opened. He quietly sorted through the new knowledge for a moment before opening his eyes to once more see the blue box of his purchase still hanging in the air. "Confirm purchase." Several notices appeared.

You have acquired Basic Firearms training.

You have acquired the Uncommon skill, Firearms Mastery Lvl. 1!...

Skill Evolution has begun!...

Congratulations! Your Uncommon skill, Firearms Mastery, has become the Rare skill, Arcane Gunman Lvl. 1...

Your purchase has been placed in your Inventory. Thank you for your purchase.

Opening his inventory he saw his new weapon lying there next to his light armor. Picking it up the weapon he found it was actually rather light, but still of considerable size. 'Perhaps it's not that it's light but that I am very strong. Reminds me of Alucard's gun from Hellsing Ultimate.' He thought as he remembered that show and that his strength stat was 79.

Trying to pull back the recoil mechanism he found it still working to his mild surprise. When he ejected the magazine for the weapon he found it no longer held bullets but had been replaced with the mana battery. Slapping the mana cartridge back into place he made sure the safety was on before presenting the weapon to Clone Oscar.

"Care to inspect it?" He asked as Clone Oscar directed his attention back towards him for a moment.

"Certainly." He said as he held out one of his large midnight black hands. After handing it over for a moment, Clone Oscar began inspecting the firearm. Running through much the same process that he himself had just run though.

"I see you had it enchanted with a spell to capture a small creature along with the common skill, Mana Bolt. I find a spell that does not miss a very interesting prospect. As for the Fireball and this...Knock? Why have such a spell upon this weapon?" Clone Oscar asked his choir-like voice having its pitch shifted upwards by his confusion.

"You never know when you will need to open something that is locked without damaging it. I liked the idea of using it to cause distractions. Having it on the weapon cuts down on the time required." He stated as Clone Oscar simply nodded.

"Yes I see. When I adventured an age ago the rouge in our party expressed similar views. All that aside, do you intend to leave the walls soon thanks to this purchase?" Clone Oscar asked as he handed the weapon back to Dante.

"Yeah me and my party are going to go adventure outside the walls after breakfast. That reminds me I have to get back! Tell the original Oscar I said HI!" He yelled as he placed the gun back into his inventory and turned to race out the door but stop himself. Turning back he asked Clone Oscar, "Where is the elven woman you brought here?" Dante asked.

"She woke up and said she was going back to the Inn she was staying at. That was about an hour ago." Clone Oscar stated, nodding Dante raced out the door leaving the clone Oscar alone behind the counter.

Clone Oscar called out and after several seconds another clone of Oscar appeared in the doorway. "What do you need?" He asked.

"I need to go relay some information to Oscar Prime. Please watch the shop while I am in the back." He said as he stepped back allowing the other clone to take his place.

Clone Oscar walked through the left back door of the shop looking for Oscar Prime. In his hand he held the blue box for Dante's weapon. In his mind he held the message.

Dante and his party stood near the large wooden city gates. Dante, his parents Frank and Laura, as well as Califa stood off to the side of the main city gate doing some last minute checking. Dante had decided to in the interest of gaining more experience he had gone back in the tutorial and selected the remaining skills. He would be completing their tutorials after they got back hunting outside the walls.

"Ok guys let's all check our status' and distribute any points we have laying around or not if your saving them." Dante the party leader said. Everyone nodded and brought up their own status menus as to distribute their points before going out. With a wave of his hand his Roads menu opened.

'I have 108 Rp to play with now to decide which Roads to invest them into.' After a moment he decided to complete what was currently his cheapest Road. The Road of Water. The notices came every 2 points.

As the sun sets you find yourself upon a cliff overlooking the sea. Hearing the distant peel of thunder you look to find a storm brewing on the horizon. +2 Perception...

The storm has come in. You are drenched in the freezing rain, but to you this is nothing. +1 End...

Congratulations! You have completed the Road of Water I! Your affinity for Water has increased slightly...

The Road of Water II has opened to you!...

This Road was different from the other's he had walked before. Instead of walking he felt himself sitting upon the soft grass. In his mind's eye he watched the sun set and the raging wind and rain of a storm. He felt a dampness and cold chill wash over him but as he felt around there was no water. He smelled the salt of the sea and watched the sunrise from the horizon only for another storm to come across the horizon.

As the experience ended he couldn't help but wonder what affinity did, shaking his head he turned back to the task at hand. He had 66 points now and the Road of Water II was 20 Rp. After a moment of consideration he decided the three Road he would complete. The next one was the Road of Light. He input the 16 Rp and got a notice every 4 points.

You seek not to tear others down but to raise them up. +1 Spirit...

You tread forth seeking those lost to the darkness to show them the light. +3 Spirit...

You know how it feels to suffer and that is what makes your light shine ever brighter! Your affinity for Light has increased!...

You bask in the light for soon you shall tread through the darkness. +2 Spirit...

Congratulations! You have completed the Road of Light I!...

The Road of Light II has opened to you!...

Your Affinity for light has increased!...

As the words rolled across his vision he felt his feet moving forward and a feeling of joy welled up in his heart. He closed his eyes and turned his head to bask in the warm artificial sunlight. Even as he read that soon he would tread through darkness he wasn't afraid.

Burning Heart has leveled up! Lvl. 5!...

He smiled before checking the new Road of light finding it to require 50 Rp. He put the 20 points needed to complete it, into the Road of the Burning Heart.
