This story begins over a millennia ago, many hundreds of years before I became an Ageless. Within a galaxy known simply as 'The Milky Way' is a solar system humans had named Sol. The third planet from its star was a pale, blue dot. From the outside, it was simply beautiful, but from within... Let's just say none of you would enjoy living in such a place.

The only intelligent species, which also dominated the planet, were the Humans. These humans came in a variety of sizes, from dwarves to giants they roamed the world. However, like all humans, they warred with one another over the most trivial of ideas and wants. Even then, there were wars and rumors of wars circling the globe, but you are not wanting to hear of it. No, we are to speak of how I began.

I did not grow up in wealth, nor was my family as poor as beggars. No, I was the first son of a military family. Though I cannot recall their faces, I will tell you I was, at the very least, loved by them. Unfortunately, life and the Fates tend to be harsh to everyone, myself included.

I could not have a family. It wasn't because I didn't wish for one, only that I could not help conceive a child. The doctors, which are our equivalent of this world's healers, had stated to my family that I was 90% sterile. Meaning, it would take a miracle for me to impregnate a woman. This was devastating news to my psyche, as I did wish for a family at that time, and yes, I did contemplate suicide several times over it. However, I was told I could adopt a child, and to look forward to that.

However, like all things, the Fates and life were not done with me. Within a few years, after the doctors informed me of my sterility, my body began to fail. It first started with numbness and tingles throughout my arms and legs, then completely numbed my feet to the point where I would trip and fall every time I walked. Afterwards, my muscles began to degrade and thin. This alarmed the doctors I had seen, as they believed I had something they called ALS, which is a fatal disease. Ah, but the Fates were kind enough to stop it from progressing, and left me a cripple in which I needed several contraptions to allow me the mobility I needed for everyday tasks.

You would think I would curse the heavens and Abyss for my misfortune, but my mind does not work the same as others. No, I simply found my condition hilarious, and would laugh and make fun of it every day. Even going so far as to make others laugh along with me, as I joke and poke fun at my failing body. Alas, even the jokes could not uplift my family, for the body I had continued to fail. Even both my heart and brain could not function properly without the help of medicines and machines.

It was at this time I was approached by those who would save my life, and allowed me to come to you all in time. For them, I am eternally grateful, and have even invited their souls, and the souls of their family, to reincarnate upon our world until they are ready to move on, but I digress. These individuals, whose names are long forgotten through the passages of Time, wanted me to be among the first to explore a newly created world within a game. Although I say game, to you who are listening to my words, it was nothing more than a pocket dimension. This dimension is only accessible through machines they and others had created, but will allow me to roam freely and without much care.

Yes, there are dangers within, but the machines in which allowed us to travel there, would not allow us to die. Although we cannot die within the game, it doesn't mean there aren't any repercussions. No, for every death that occurs, we lose some of our strength, even going as far as making us forget some of our skills and spells we had painstakingly mastered. Do not worry, though, for it has always been relatively easy to gain back our masteries and spells after death.

Needless to say, I was excited for such an opportunity, and would have readily, wholeheartedly agree if not for one blaringly obvious problem. 'What will happen to my body?' To which they replied saying they will induce a coma upon me, which is, essentially, placing me into a deep sleep. This would allow my mind and essence to be transferred over to this new world, but I had to ask if any of my family would be allowed into this new world. To which they replied that they will, but on a much later date.

For the first time in a very long time, I was happy, and allowed my tears to flow as I signed my life away to them. I was one of a few comatose patients which were allowed the most freedom possible within their world, so we were, essentially, stating we were giving up our lives to them. Though, of course, many in my family were against this, but I had to remind them it was a better alternative to seeing me waste away while the doctors could do nothing to cure it, only slow down the degradation. I also told them they could see me in time, and even interact with me once they are given their own machines to use to transfer themselves into this new world.

They were reluctant, of course, but consented after seeing how I was being incredibly stubborn and immovable on the subject. There were a few skeptics still among them, even while I was being hoisted around and settled into a strange pod. This pod will allow me to transfer into the new world faster, is what they said, and the wires and tubes which were being attached to my numbed body would allow the doctors and scientists to study and monitor me during the process. My family would become even more shocked, when they found out I even went as far as to donate my body to them, in the event it dies. Who knows? Maybe it will while I am within the new world, and at that time, I wished to stay there even if it did.

I bid farewell to my family of skeptics, as the pod's door closed, and closed my eyes. I could hear whirls and a suction type noise, which signified the closing and sealing of the pod. My body seemed to float for a time, then began to drift, as words appeared in front of my person.

"Huh, what a strange name," I mumbled, pressing the 'Yes' button. The world became white as I did so, then darkness claimed me.
