《The Grand General - MmoRpg》Chapter 9: Going out

Noah took off his rented headgear and stood form the bed, he found his body a bit stiff from laying down for hours. Vesper Online had a time acceleration function that doubled its speed, this meant that he laid stiff for more than 2 hours. It was not that much time but there was definitely a need for a revitalizing stretch, he also needed to cool down his head a bit and so went to take his prized shower.
While drying up his short hairs with a towel, for the first time since long, Noah paid close attention to his physique. It was nothing praiseworthy but at least there was no excess fat, the government imposed weekly exercises were having an effect.
Having experienced real training inside the game made him more conscious of the body condition and for the first time ever, he decides to go and have a stroll just for the sake of fresh air and some walking.
Going out without a clear objective was strange at first and with nothing better to do, Noah had a chance for watching his city streets, shops, buildings and parks. Vupe was a nice city, like many in the state; it kept some old buildings that still stood after the last war, this gave an exotic style to the all too modern city skyline and districts.
Noah lived with his parents inside a big enough apartment for 3 people inside new and modern construction, the building was located in a slightly outward district and had a small park near it that Noah was currently traversing. Following down this direction, in about 20 more minutes by foot, there was a place that he visited a lot in these past months.
Today Noah was too tired to take duty at the cemetery but he still made way to it. Maybe it was out of routine that he chose that road; he didn’t really mind walking to the graveyard because it was situated outside the city so there were fewer people and, following them, confusion.

After 10 minutes or so of walking slowly, he found a big and calm park. it had benches placed near the scant few trees in this leveled grass field, it was a nice cover from the hot sun and Noah went to sit on one.
Feeling a light breeze brushing his face and moving his hairs, he got reminded of the one felt inside Vesper before training; his mind wandered to the beautiful and mesmerizing dance of Dominik swordsmanship and wished of being able to move so harmoniously.
‘this weather is making me feel rejuvenated, I can stop thinking about today fatigue. Maybe I should do it just once…’
After thinking so, Noah stood up from the bench and went in the middle of a nearby tree shadow. What followed was a youthful male adult trying to imitate an ancient martial master. He could exactly reproduce the set of moves he practiced for all of today morning but there was a long way before obtaining the instructor’s graciousness with them.
It was actually pleasant to reproduce those set of movements, he even kept going after the first two and tried to reproduce a few other transitions he remembered.
Noah felt like a kid again, he was impersonating an ancient master of old times and, while strange ad a bit awkward to do, he found it fun.
This lasted only 5 minutes because soon he realized what differed from the game and reality. His body had heated up and was sweating lightly, he decided to stop before feeling tired because he still had to make the way back.
‘maybe I was gifted in martial arts and never figured it out. Oh well, they are things of the past; it’s really hard to see some martial art master nowadays, it’s too tiring and boring to practice and none can make a single credit for it. Still, I quite like the feelings I get while moving.’

Noah decided that going outside one or two times a week to ‘pratice’ wasn’t a bad idea after all and then, he went back home.
He was now in front of the monitor in his bedroom and thought back at his mother face when she learned that he didn’t go out for a public job and instead he just enjoyed a walk outside.
Right now he was looking at some discussions about vesper online. Having a well developed entertainment industry had his advantages, there were already so many offers regarding program centered on Vesper Online but, honestly, seeing the immense scope of the game, it was to be expected.
Between programs discussing general introductions on the game or others with a more skeptical view on Vesper, Noah watched a discussion program where they analyzed players updated content on the forums.
They were now talking about levels, experience and skills; Noah was really interested and kept following the program for now but decided to visit Vesper forums next time he logged out.
It appeared that somebody was already close to level 10, there were always those people that as soon as starting a game went straight to kill things.
Or there was a funny dude going with the name of ‘TwoSwordsInOne’ claiming that he was a real martial master and got a sword mastery skill after practicing some forms inside the game.
Apparently, there were strange people playing Vesper and Noah had a lot more to understand about it.

The Mortal Acts
The Mortal Acts is an epic progression fantasy with a lower focus on training aspects and a great focus on discovering new ways of using powers intelligently. I've always been drawn to stories where characters use their powers creatively to overcome opponents and obstacles, and I think all the possibilities can provide a great playground for twists and turns. It's inspired by a variety of media, including Will Wight's Cradle, Hunter x Hunter, and Bioshock, so if you like the creative power use elements from those, come check it out. This is my first serial, and please feel free to leave comments and feedback. For backstory, behind-the-scenes, and other fun stuff, come chat on my discord! Become a patron to read up to 20 chapters ahead here! Blurb: Riven Morell cuts short his regular life at school and home when his mother falls terminally ill. Desperate to find a cure, he travels to Severance Frontier, a desolate land haunted by hordes of ghosts, witches, and demons collectively called the Deathless. But a miraculous cure doesn’t magically fall into his hands. Things are worse in Severance Frontier than Riven had assumed. Ghosts are banding together into armies, demons are kidnapping anyone who strays out of settlements, and witches are enslaving everyone left and right. Riven, of course, gets embroiled in the mess. Missions to curb the Deathless activity are one thing, but when it starts to look like this is just the beginning of a war that extends beyond the mortal realm, Riven has a hard time focusing on why he came to Severance Frontier in the first place. His mother is inching towards death with every passing day, but if he doesn’t face down the Deathless, what little civilization the Frontier holds will be overrun and destroyed. Thankfully, it looked like the Deathless might just hold the secret of the elusive cure.
