“We’ve been waiting for you to make your move, Hellspawn.” The dark knight said as a battalion sized force appeared out of the new rift.
Kurzan growled in annoyance, “How…How did you know?”
The knight chuckled as his eyes lay lit ablaze whilst grey lines of mana flowed out into the rest of his face, “You could say I’ve been keeping an eye on you, Jacky, are we ready?” He asked the cloaked shadow that suddenly appeared beside him.
“Are you sure about this? The consequences of revealing ourselves could be…” The shadow warned but was cut off.
“Heaven and Hell want to fuck with us? We’ll show them all we’re not to be fucked with.” The knight replied, waving aside his cloak and letting the wind take it aside revealing his ornate black armour lined with strange rune-carved equipment.
Suddenly the sky tore asunder as dozens of rifts blotted it out, form which flew out winged ships. Black hulls with red linings and sails, an armada filled the sky.
The knight then opened his arms wide, “Lord Commander of the Chaoz Multi-Verse Defensive Army and leader of the renowned Blood Pack, I am Birse, and I declare this realm under MY protection. Now, grab your tails, turn right about, and fuck right off my porch.”
Kurzan watched with wide eyes as a rain of death befell his army from the aerial armada, and sensing the level of power the group before him alone held… “You win today, little wolves, but this war is far from over.” The Devil growled, snarling out to his minions then and sounding a retreat, his gigantic form loomed back into the rift which it came from.
Gazing through the tear in reality with great anger at Birse, who simply grinned all the way till the rift closed, leaving many a demon stranded and soon to be dead.

Birse turned to the two flabbergasted brothers then, “Well what you two starin at? Take me to your leader!”
Erael and Ziethael simply stared at him with confusion.
“I don’t think they speak English man.” An Elf from Birse’s side mused.
“Comprende ingles? No? Hellllooo?” Birse continued to kid with a raised brow.
The two brothers then looked at one another and spoke in unison, “Mom’s handling this…”
A Different Realm….Elsewhere
Her feet sinking in mud as she pushed and pulled, her clothes drenched in sweat and rain-water as she gripped the ropes ahead of herself, tied to a large boulder she was dragging behind her.
Erika and the rest of the recruits struggled against varying great chunks of stone, dragging them across the muddy ground with several ropes as rain poured down upon them.
Kei watched over, shouting encoure-Disencouragement, “Come on you welps, is this the best you can do! You’re gonna have to build up those bodies of yours ten thousand times more if you wanna go anywhere close to glory! Push! Pull! Carry the bloody thing if you have to! Now drag it to the other side of the damn field by the third quarter of today or I swear upon the moon you’ll be doing this all night!”
Her hair sticking down her face and chest, Erika’s eyes were a kind of broken only few people ever gain. Wide with weariness, yet pushing through with pure will-power and what drops of stamina remained.
Push
Further…Further!
She told herself, looking nowhere else but forward.
Stronger…I need to become stronger!
Shouting out then in a bellow normally kept for battle, Erika screamed away the fatigue as she fought against the gravity that held down her boulder and the mud which she feared she’d slip over, incurring Kei’s wrath.
I will become strong…strong enough to go back home!

Alexandra Bedford is a weapon, a young woman with telekinetic powers capable of leveling entire cities, born to fight in the desolate remains of post-apocalyptic North America. There is only one problem: she may be losing control of her abilities. Sixteen years after a global pandemic devastated the earth’s population, the lines in the old United States have been drawn between the Cheyenne Directorate in Colorado and the New England Alliance on the East Coast. The Directorate, of which Alexandra is a part, is a small but powerful organization dedicated to returning the country to its former glory. However, when a diplomatic mission to the New England Alliance goes wrong, Alexandra finds herself at the center of a bloody civil war. Battles are fought on the old highways and in dilapidated towns and once-great cities. And as the conflict escalates, all of North America faces the threat of being burnt away by nuclear fire. Against this backdrop of war, Alexandra tries to uncover the long-hidden secrets behind the plague, her abilities, and the two men fighting to decide the fate of the United States - Henry Bedford, Alexandra's father and leader of the Directorate, and John Martin, the mysterious figure at the heart of the New England Alliance who may hold the key to everything she seeks. None of this will matter, however, unless Alexandra can prevent the power growing inside her from taking over and consuming the very world she is fighting to save. Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!
