《Brave World Online》First Shift Chapter 6 – Blood Magic

A/N: Alright, here's the regular chapter. Haven't make out a good thing but Serious Battle will happen after this.
Voyagers possessed unique bodily traits. They have been known to be capable of casting any type of magic and their bodies were compatible with every Class existing in Daedalus. As long as there were efforts and a bit of luck, they could ascend to the greatest pinnacle of strength.
Of course, this had been because of how they proved to be different than the NPCs. Voyagers, in the end, are Players with immortal bodies. Not to mention—
“Without… a Class… I can use ALL type of magic till they reached… Beginner X huh…?”
After struggling and standing at the spot, Yuuya coughed blood as he sucked in air. He analyzed his status and he truly deserved a reward as his body was filled with windholes.
(If so, my first priority is to be able to wield magic to stop my bleeding.)
He carefully moved his body, and then he looked up. He stared at the darkening sky as he inhaled a large amount of fresh air to calm his adrenaline. Then, Yuuya drowned his mind into the vast array of knowledge he had gathered so far.
(Magic is a technique. An ability which enabled one to control mana, the ‘essence’ which lived within everything in this world. That means, everything possesses this ‘essence’ including this body. But living beings possessed mana which flowed out from the soul and thus ours are different than the mana scattered in the environment. If so—what is a part of me which could be said to possess mana?)
Was it within his will? But that wasn’t the case as if he just willed it, then the wounds would have healed long time ago.
Was it within his flesh? But no matter how he could not regenerate the torn muscles.
Was it his heart? Even so, soul was only the furnace mana came from.
“………I see… so mana is interconnected by using blood.”Yuuya concluded as he looked down at the sea of blood. The dots were now connected.
*DING!*
Congratulations! You have gained a new skill!!
*DING!*
Skill Name:Skill Rank:Skill Level:SkillExperience:Blood ManipulationUnique10%There are many types of mana in the world. However, living being possessed special mana which coexisted inside the blood. Now you have gained the understanding of this forgotten wisdom other than the Vampiric Diablos. Allowing you to manifest magic through the use of blood as a catalyst. The amount of blood used is proportional with the Rank of magic you intend to use.
—Great. Whether this was unfortunate or not, Yuuya could tell that knowledge gave him a chance to survive. And of course Yuuya knew that mana could be felt through hard focus with tranquil mind beforehand. He gained both Mana Manipulation and Blood Magic Manipulation so now he could use two kinds of magic.
The difference was—normal magic would expend his mana faster while blood magic’s potential was still unknown. It’s rather hard to pinpoint the difference other than the catalyst but—
(Considering blood is a type of mana, that means I can manipulate it right…? I can… use it.)
Yuuya raised his hand. He closed his mind and focused at the mana which seeped in the blood, both within his body and those around him. He desired a form of Trinity in his mind, and he picked the Aria first.
“Gather.” –the Voyager willed strongly. Stronger than before. And with a clear, unshakeable determination within his voice.
Answering to his piety was a ripple around his feet. He knew that he obtained a response, but it was too weak. Yuuya started to despise his weak will more and he commanded in a louder.

“Gather!”
Once again, the blood rippled. Even inside his body, he now sensed the reaction due to his command. Was it rejection? He certainly felt nauseous and that he may want to vomit at any time but he swallowed down his urges. He ignored the increasing headache, rising temperatures and he refused to bow down to the hazes of death trying to rob him from being conscious.
So once again—he exclaimed.
“Gather!!”
The third time. It became apparent to Yuuya as he watched the pool of blood undulated. He saw bubbles, and he saw the crimson fluid rising in the form of large droplets. The smell of iron permeated stronger than ever but Yuuya was more than surprised as he saw something beyond common senses happening in front of him.
They rose from the surface, defying gravity. They floated in the air, as if being sucked in to the sky. They flew, gathered and united into a spherical form of dark crimson just above Yuuya’s stretched and opened palm.
*DING!*
You have gained a new skill!
Skill Name:Skill Rank:Skill Level:SkillExperience:Bloody HarvestCommon110%Within the varying usage of Blood Magic, the act of gathering blood at your own will is the basis of everything. This branch of blood manipulation costs you a small amount of mana. Depending on range between you and the source, accosted mana might increase. However, your blood is exempted from this limitation and therefore does not cost you anything. Bloody Harvest allows you to recover a third of your health as well!
Costs: 30 Mana
Absorption Range: 10 Meter
Blood-type Limitation: 1
Absorption Limit: 1500cc
Absorption Speed: 250cc/second
“……First step.”
Yuuya wasn’t perturbed from smiling. He just gained two skills in a short time and he even found a convenient way to claim the lives of those he hated. As long as a wound was carved and blood flowed from it, he could just drain ALL blood from his victim easily. The skill was also capable of healing so he really must be grateful and thanked his efforts.
Still, his priority right now is still the same. He looked over his body and then to the sphere of blood. And he picked the only way to restore his health.
“Return.” –Yuuya commanded as the spherical form of blood bloated out. It undulated again and flowed like threads into the wounds.
As those knights seemed so pleased that they pulled off the lances, it became easier for the manipulated crimson liquid to return into the avatar body. As the slow process finished, Yuuya immediately switched his brain gears.
He used normal mana and concentrated it at his index finger. It soon glowed with near-white light dimly, and Yuuya traced it in the air.
He ‘wrote’ a simple yet large symbol which could have meant nothing and the moment he done that—the symbol glowed. It gave sparkles of white and blue as if light was reflected on its surface for every few moments.
“—Rune: Ice.”
Just as he commanded, the symbol sparked with bright light and the temperature instantly dropped. Following after it was a white mist with diamond dusts which caused Yuuya to lost the feeling over his entire skins. He even felt numb as his body was being clutched with waves of ice.
You have received status debuff: Freeze!
What Yuuya did was installing a Rune to his body. As BWO was a game which boasted of its realism rate, even friendly fire existed in this game. It’d be not weird for him to see a PK roaming around and creating a Guild as well but the important thing was—he could use a debuff to halt the wounds from reopening and causing him more troubles.

From where did he know this skill? The library possessed the formulas and all Yuuya needed to do was simply swapping the variables with the correct letters to present a functional spell.
His skins now clad with layers of ice. His wounds were frozen at the surface to stop the bleeding. And he had difficulties to breath with terrible headache crawling around his brain. In the midst of scattering diamond dust caused by Rune which possessed the longest duration of effect amongst the Trinity, Yuuya was… not giving up yet.
He eagerly moved his feet. With the sounds of cracks coming from the frozen skins and outfits, he walked. He did not need direction. Night had fallen. And he was alone within this forest.
Forsaken.Losing everything, including his rationale thinking and moral.
Yuuya—decided to enter the forest. Deeper into the darkness he would go. And further away from staying as a human he would choose. All for the sake of appeasing his hatred and vengeance against the world. All for the sake of killing those who have wronged him so far.

“…How odd. Why hasn’t Yuuya returned? It’s going to be midnight.”
Within the library, Margaret heaved a troubled sigh. She had given him an easy quest which was supposed only taking three hours at maximum for it to be cleared. Any longer meant something had happened but the Head Librarian could not leave the library unattended.
In fact, the library always opened till late in the evening. Excepting rare holidays and weekend, Margaret attended as the clerk and worked very hard.
That was why she couldn’t take times other than using her little times for buying necessities and a little rest. Also, the woodcutter’s house was too far for her own reaches in her current level. Thus she gave the Voyagers and capable guards the quests but this was the first case where the receiver never returned.
By the system’s rules, Margaret’s affections and trust to Yuuya obviously became lower. However, she wasn’t so simple that she would just say ‘Like I thought, Voyagers are…’ or something. She was a self-developing AI. One which could learn like a human to a degree.
As a librarian of a library housing hundred variants of books, she of course had developed her knowledge and wisdom to a different height compared to novice readers and mages who visited it. And using her amassed intelligence together, she began to doubt that Yuuya neglected her quest.
Or rather, it was her instinct which told her. Uneasiness filled her heart and her mind wandered, searching for answers despite a sense of foreboding grew rapidly. That was when a knock came from the front door. As the library was closing, Margaret was about to finish cleaning up the place.
The woman rushed as the knocking became louder. And when she arrived—
“Who might be there?”—a small part of her heart said that it was Yuuya. This feeling caused her to neglect how much ill omen has grown within the back of her mind and she innocently opened the door.
“—Good evening, Mistress Margaret Stuart. I would like to inquire you a few things, may I?”
…it was the Duke who stood at the doorsteps. Behind him was several knights showing hard expressions and there needed to be unsaid for the air surrounding them was… surely bearing animosity.

Darkness was everywhere.
The Abyss existed here.
Purgatory was within this place where safety and comfort did not exist.
Deep, deep where the light of the azure moon could not penetrate was a lone Voyager. One who had just escaped from the brink of death. Though his knowledge and creativity to produce such miracle was terrific, in this world, he was but a peasant. A mere Level One.
“………four… nine… thirteen. A swarm of… them.” –under freezing breaths, Yuuya scoffed at the mobs surrounding him.
Even within the darkness, he could see mad glint of dull yellow eyes scattered everywhere. He could hear rough breaths, trampled grasses, and the ringing of metal. The goblins were ones which were called as hobgoblins. Stronger variant of normal goblins and they usually possessed intellects as well as battle instincts a few notches above.
Considering how they equipped their selves with chainmails and rusty bladed weapons stolen from the dead, they perfected a circle formation to ensure their target’s doom. With average level of 18~36, they were indeed formidable. They also seemed cunning enough to let an escape path which obviously would lead the Voyager to instant death. Still—
“…………so you want to kill me.”
He whispered to no one in particular. He straightened his back and raised his head. Looking at the darkness above, he cared not an ounce about his situation. However, memories swirled and the dreads he felt—became anger to drive away everything unnecessary for his survivability.
“Move aside.” –The black haired man said. His voice caught by the wind and the hobgoblins suddenly shivered by the coldness of the words.
What was it that they felt? One of the dark green creature perceived the prey questioned as it heightened its wariness thanked to its wickedly cowardice nature. The race called Goblin was one which relied on numbers and clever tricks to trap their targets, to ambush them and then to destroy them for entirety before taking the spoils.
Because they possessed incredible vitality and tenacity, they also feared nothing but those they instinctively considered as natural enemies. Or perhaps, someone stronger than them. And they would stop at nothing to gain more weapons as well as women to increase their brethren explosively. That was just how Goblins were.
“—Move aside.”
And yet… they felt ‘fear’. They sensed the murderous intent of the Voyager. As clear as daylight. As strong as the power to burn down their entire species. As threatening as if the Reaper was waiting for them to die by the scythe of death.
Because of that, those who possessed weak mentality were driven by fear and craziness.
One of the Hobgoblin broke the formation. It ran straight to the Voyager. It raised its dull axe with a roar as it weaved through the darkness. Following it was several others which went down the same path.
If one were to think carefully, victory was already within their hands. The hobgoblins have no chance to lose against a beginner who barely experienced the hardness of living in this floating island. Surely, they would see the scene where the human’s body torn apart with blood spraying everywhere. However—
“You can’t comply—then you shall die……!!”
Suddenly, the Voyager moved.
Suddenly, the black haired man revealed a pair of golden orbs under his long hair which melded with the darkness.
In a moment, the Voyager quickly thrust forward his right arm. He opened his palm and received the swing of axe of the mind-weakened hobgoblin.
*SLASH* there was a sound. There was the clear sensation of cutting flesh.
The hobgoblin had no question its axe had struck its intended target. And yet… he saw nothing but the blade of axe sunk lightly into the opened palm of the human. Blood trickled down, but only a little. Yes……
Just a drop of blood was necessary.
*SPLATS!!*
Its vision shook. Its head could not comprehend anything. Its murky yellow eyes rolled down to see what had happened which stopped it—much more, shook its body for several seconds. But soon enough, the scent of rust permeated in the air. Its mind going white as a surge of nausea entered and causing the hobgoblin to vomit.
It vomited dark crimson blood. Even though within this dark forest, it could see the blood exiting from its mouth—and its torso.
For the place where its heart resided in had been holed.
For the organ which empowered its body to retain its live was punctured by a crimson needle.
For the most important source of life was severed right at the core… with a blood which formed sharp needles that shot out to destroy the heart with one hit. A hit large enough to make it burst like a balloon.
*thud!*
Within this darkness was just a lone human. Within the Abyss was just a husk which was driven by insanity and cold vengeance. He might be human, but he had stopped becoming one at this point.
The Voyager with frightening golden eyes stood in front of a corpse. He let out white smoke scattered with diamond dust from his mouth. As the freezing mist encircled him, the figure was nothing but inhuman from the hobgoblins' view.
"Blood. Blood... Your blood is mine. I'll kill you, and so I shall obtain your blood to destroy everything you have next!!"
I'm suck at writing Skill's Name and Description and Effects.... Does anyone here know anything about a good source to learn from? Preferably Light Novel if not Web Novel.

(The Warnings Are just in case, thus far no plans have been made, but if there end up being any you are warned) [Terror Infinity Fanfiction, there was months of planning and thought into this. Left it for a year worked on it for a bit then left it again and back and forth. The Concept was interesting enough in both the Original and Side B, but the World Building for both was such a mess it gave me such a headache I had to restart and scrap entire ideas multiple times before I just gave up and started from almost scratch and got something mildly satisfying. In my opinion even then, it still needs work. Hopefully you guys will enjoy this.] (Cover Image Isn't Mine)

Every citizen of the sky-cities of His Majesty's Star-Empire knows that a ship, both sky- and star-, is more then just a few bits of metal. It is the grand sum of it's hull and the crew that sail it. 'Hulls of battle-steel and men to match!' That's what the Navy's recruitment poster's claim at least. Every sailor knows that there is one more component that the city-bound folk ignore at their own peril: the soul of the ship. That it takes both man and hull to make a true ship, and that neither alone serve well or for long. In 8225 Lord Jeffrye Saltonstall the Fourth, Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps, demands semi-automated ships to 'reduce the loss of life among our brave crews', manages to convince the other politicians and bureaucrats to fund them, and gets the Office of Ship Construction to sign off on the ships as structurally sound. Dockyard workers shake their heads at the ships, muttering that they are cursed from birth, even as construction drags on. In 8230 the Explorer, first of her class, is launched. She sets out in 8233 to great fanfare on a trip expected to last six months. Neither she nor her twelve-person crew is ever heard from again. By 8235, the remaining seven Explorers are are commissioned. Lord Saltonstall managed to find crews for six of them but at the cost of mass resignations. The Night Horse, last of the Explorer class, sat in reserve as her sister-ships served well enough despite ill luck and misfortune. The Office of Ship Construction quietly issues notice that no more semi-automated ships are to be built and that all active Semi-automated ships are to be quietly retired and broken up for scrap over the next ten years. The Night Horse, sitting in reserve, is missed due to bureaucratic oversight. In 8250 Lord Ayland Wynstryngham the Eighth assumes the office of Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps. His first act is to issue notice that no ship is to be without crew nor sit in dock or reserve for longer then required for maintenance and upkeep. The Night Horse, all but forgotten, is quietly brought back into active service. Recruiting a crew for her proves another matter entirely. What poor or desperate fool would willingly sign on to crew, much less command, a cursed ship and spend months or years in deep space? Well, you would, of course. Where else is a kid from the gutters going to find that kind of freedom in the service of His Majesty? A [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] 2021.
