《Abyssus》Tenth Submersion

“Kin, are you sure…?”
“Yes, Mion. I’m sure. There’s only one place where the damn ruler could have gone, and that’s back down. I wish I could leave it, Mion, but I can’t. It’s a useful tool, and it can--it can do stuff for us, and it might tell us about what this place is.”
“It’s a rangefinder, Kin. That’s all it is. A laser ruler.”
Kin realised the irony of arguing with an intelligence matrix and decided to make his way down.
“They’re still down there…”
“...Good point.”
Kin swam back up to the little hole in the ceiling and decided to nestle in there until the ghostly wails of the Sirens faded.
“Happy?”
Without waiting for Mion’s indignant reply, Kin pushed off the edges of the hole. His flippers stirred up infinitesimal motes of dust as the boy descended back down.
Nothing accosted him on his dive and Kin made good time, his flippers impacting the bottom about five minutes after his descent began.
This hall is huge. How am I going to get the rangefinder?
Kin drifted gently above the floor, using his ankles to push himself slowly around on his flippers. He decided that using the flashlight or headlight would be detrimental to his chances of not getting found by a Siren and chose to conduct the search aided only by the wispy blue lights.
Kin started by swimming to a wall. He then crossed its length, looking down, searching for the device. When he hit the other end of the wall, he moved slightly to the side and repeated the process.
One...two...one...two…
After what seemed like an eternity, Kin’s eyes finally rested upon the sleek black item.
“Finally, something goes right for once…” Unable to resist a grumble, Kin tucked the rangefinder back in his pocket, and then turned to go.

Click. Click click.
His torchlight had died.
“Oh for…” Kin couldn’t even muster up the strength to grumble.
So he continued upwards, using the rangefinder to pinpoint obstacles, working in the pitch black, surrounded on all sides by gaping maws of torn steel.
Sonorous wails resonated in the distance, and, for the first time since the adrenaline rush that he had experienced while getting lost, Kin felt totally and truly alone.
Alone, surrounded by kilometres of abyss on all ends, truly cut off from the outside world.
It was there, in the total darkness, that Kin made his first goal that had any meaning beyond eking out a miserable existence in this miserable place.
He wanted out.

8 201Earth Exodus
Elliot isn't the first one taken, he was the last, or one of them at least. Careless divines, gods, or higher powers had been snatching humans through numerous means over the years. Those that returned brought minor tokens of their previous power if anything at all. Over time unrestrained magic became commonplace on earth. Which must have brought attention to us. The earth is ravaged by increasing levels of rogue magics, divines, and a war over resources and experience. Eventually resulting in a mass exodus of the remaining powerless humans by a coalition of gods. Now translocated to Vauthia where everyone has been given a path to power. They're met with an unfortunate reality. They've only been rescued from one dying world to be tasked with saving the new one. While at the same time they're apparently supposed to compete with one another. Meanwhile Elliot wasn't just given a path to power. He was given a choice. The opportunity for true power is offered. When as he reaches for it the power isn't all it's cracked up to be.Systemless in a world where everyone else has access to one Elliot must grapple with a multitude of problems from without and within. The 'gods' might actually be incompetent, uncaring, downright malicious, or all three. His power is constantly three steps behind those who chose the quick path to power. There's also the antisocial tendencies he's brought with him from earth. Can he trust the 'god' who seems to be taking him under their wing? Will he be able to catch up to his fellow earthlings who're ever increasing in power? Is it possible he may just break out of his shell along the way?*** What to expect ***The initial start will be quite slow, building the setting, history, and individuals involved. There is a small bit of progression in these early chapters for the MC, but more along the lines of figuring out how their systemless power works. though once the story gains traction it won't stop.*** Don't tell Elliot, but ***Elliot hates to admit it but he's very clearly antisocial. Not to mention troubles with thinking that stem from several un-diagnosed disorders he'd rather believe don't exist.*** Image Copyright *** //In this satellite image released by Copernicus Sentinel imagery, 2020 twitter page dated Dec. 31, 2019, shows wildfires burning across Australia. 8 231Gangs From Another World
This story takes place in a world like our own where magic and high technology rule the day. This particular world is ruled by a feline race. The race is divided up into 12 clans (like Greek city-states), with their own territories, solar systems and planets. These 12 clans answer to the original Home World for external disputes, negations, emergencies or to direct military operations only. Within the time-frame of this story, a new Emperor has recently ascended the throne, approximately a year has past since the ascension. He was the previous ruler of the Clan Ya-kith-Thar or Clan founding #3, world of the artisan cats. Unfortunately, not all residents have benefited from technological wonders. The forgotten, who were not lucky enough to be Royal born or middle class and above, experience a hard life, like those of the colonial worlds. The poorer denizens see the technological marvels from their windows, and yet experience little of it. This is the story of one such group living in the ghetto of the Capital city, written by Horus Blackburn, leader of the North-Central Gang.
