Chapter 10: Lessons of medicine and magic
It was agreed that Dr. Spencer would teach Naku and me. Because I mentioned my desire to improve myself to help her, Naku became more affectionate towards me and asked Dr Spencer to teach her too.
"This is a" Magic Gem. It is obtained by crushing magic stones along with normal rocks, I usually use red rocks. The mixture is put to boil in water with a few drops of monster’s blood, and we only wait for the gem to form in the liquid " (Spencer)
Dr. Spencer gives us one of his basic lessons on how to make the most basic compound of alchemy: the magical gem.
The magic stones that Dr. Spencer mentioned are an internal organ and not a mineral; All animals and monsters in the world have an organ attached to the stomach, which allows them to hold their magic power, is called stone because it crystallizes when it comes into contact with the air. Without that organ it would be impossible for monsters as large and heavy as the Gums to move over land or for giant bees to breathe and fly ... In other words, the magic stone is the reason for the existence of creatures that defy everything I learned about biology on Earth.
It is worth mentioning that the stronger the monster, the higher the quality of the stone, and this affects the results for which it is used.
I have the hypothesis that Naga, humans and all other races must also have a magic stone, but for religious reasons the subject has not been touched. Being an organ, it is normal that it is very difficult to control and only some people are able to do it at will to create spells.
"Magic gems are the basis of all alchemical process, it is what allows us to extract the potential of ingredients and turn them into magical substances ... And not only used in alchemy, but also in the manufacture of magic wands." (Spencer)

...
The days continue like this, Dr. Spencer's lessons are easy to learn even though there are times when he uses terms I do not know. However, the lessons seem to be a bit difficult for Naku, who was saddened for being of not much help. I obviously my best to comfort her, and in the end, she came to the conclusion that she will train her fighting skills to be unbeatable at combat.
I do not know what kind of training she decided to do, but since then, the difference in combat between the two of us has been widening day by day in her favor.
She still continued to attend Dr. Spencer's classes, but decided to limit herself to the application of first aids and the use of medications.
...
Five months passed without us realizing and Naku's birthday was approaching, so I decided to give her a gift.
As Dr. Spencer had warned me, I am not capable of making magic potions because I have no talent in healing magic ... or any other element, so I can not cast any magic spells.
However, these studies have not been a lost cause: thanks to the lessons, I have managed to overcome the limits of my ability to control the blessing of Nagur, in fact, apart from my strength and ability to feel presences, I am recently acquiring a new skill that makes me able to feel the condition in which someone is just by touching them. So far, it only works if I concentrate a lot, but is improving day by day. Unfortunately, when I investigated the doctor's manuscripts, I learned that this ability was common among the demons, so it was considered taboo... I decided to keep it secret except for Naku, who in turn promised to be my accomplice.

In addition, although I can not create potions, I have gained much knowledge about many ingredients and their uses. The same thing happens with the production of magic wands. In fact, my gift to Naku is related to this.
The uses for wands are like that of fantasy tales on Earth: they are weapons that wizards wield to expand their powers. The body of a wand consists of a wooden cane carved with different characters called 'Magic Formula' and a magical gem on the tip.
The operation is simple: the magician fills the magic formula with hetros and it is distributed to the gem, which stores it for a brief period, during which the magician evokes the spell. As a result, the spell can be up to twice as powerful as it usually is.
Now, thanks to the teachings of Dr. Spencer and the manuscripts he has shown me, I have succeeded in developing some hypotheses about the workings of magic. To begin with, the magic formula is quite similar to binary programming, but more primitive, alchemists just add random numbers and no logic gates. This cause several problems: the hetros flows irregularly, the wood re-absorbs the energy accumulated in the gem and then releases it to the outside, losing it, etc...
After some experiments, I managed to create two things that I think would completely revolutionize the concept of magic: the "magic battery" and the "spell cartridge".
The magic battery is a component that gives energy to the 'magic circuit' (the magic formula I designed) to create a device that emits light. It is worth mentioning that the most I could achieve is equivalent to 45 volts of energy and can last up to 30 days without receiving a magical recharge. I hope that as time goes by, I can find a way to increase both values.
The spell cartridge on the other hand, consists of a tiny but effective magic circuit that can magnify up to 15 times the power of a spell (in theory). It has the defect that it is disposable, but it is easy to produce and the ingredients to make it are common... ‘Easy’ only if you know how to elaborate the circuit.
Because both could be used against us, I have decided to keep this knowledge in a total secret and share its existence only if it is strictly necessary.
Now, to avoid generating problems for Naku, her gift will be a version of a magic device that does not arouse suspicion. I carved a chip of wood and spiraled around a small round stone, causing it to emit a dim blue light, in other words, it’s magic spell.
"I wonder how I should give it to her... Like a cool guy or a nice guy? What's the best time to give it to her?" (Aruh)
As the birthday date approached, my mind began to digress into the method of giving my gift to Naku.
Frustrated by my indecision, I decide to hurry and start training with dad.

Candor: The Forgotten House
*** Please read note below *** As a 16-year-old mage from a powerful family, Jayce Candor had known from a young age what his future would hold. As the fourth son in his family the possibility of him becoming the heir to the household was very small. But, with his talent as a mage, his potential accomplishments in the military could lead to titles of nobility and political power. However, on what would otherwise be an unremarkable night, everything he had ever known, the only people he ever cared for, and all of the plans for his future were destroyed. House Candor, one of the six great houses that helped build the Eldoran Empire had been erased from history. By imperial decree, all those bearing the name Candor were hunted down and executed as traitors of the Empire. With no home, no family, and only death waiting for him, Jayce decided to escape north to the uncharted Northern Territories to begin a new life. Forced into situations he was never prepared for and trying to cope with his past, Jayce tries to find safety in a place spoken about only in legends. There for the first time, he will make true friends and find people he will come to see as family. He will encounter strong enemies, build powerful alliances, and become a person his ancestors would be proud of. But surrounded by creatures he thought only existed in tales and pressed by the Empire’s constant expansion, Jayce’s safety may be only an illusion. To survive a world fraught with danger Jayce will need to grow stronger with each new experience and rebuild his once forgotten house. ********************************************************************** Note: The story starts slow. Although there is more action as the story progresses, there is a fair amount of introspection and character introduction in the first 30 chapters. Jayce is the main character, however, other characters play a large role and the story is seen through multiple POV's. This is a draft, it is not a finished work. This is not a story that focuses on an OP MC who beats up on weaklings. At times there can be a fair amount of internal monologue. Some of that may be edited out when I rewrite the story. I decided to keep it in the draft because I think it is better to have too much material rather than too little when I edit. Constructive criticism is appreciated as it helps in the editing and rewriting process. Check out my other story Shattered Mind here

Checkpoint
as an anomaly sweeps the world, many gain strange abilities. as for Mal, the power makes it so they cannot die, or more accurately, they get sent back in time to the last place they were safe at. A power that seems like a blessing until you’re crushed under rubble, drowned in sewage, shot, stabbed, all while having the royalties to feel all the pain from such fates. And to put the icing on the cake, a strange message appeared before everyone’s eyes stating that unless someone breaks down the gate within 17 years, everyone will die”. now Mal needs to find a way to “break down the gate” (whatever the hell that means) or they will be forced to die and revive, only to die again for the rest of time. Which would suck, probably. /————————————————— this is technically a time loop novel. the MC is chaotic neutral with a worryingly lack of care about how their actions affect people. i want to interact with my readers so give critique and suggestions. I will sometimes host polls for the personality for new characters, story decisions, and the ability to cancel annoying characters, besides Mal, if they get enough complaints. I am also impatient and will end decision polls when I want to write more. If no one votes, I choose, so don’t let that happen. if you’re want world building check out hitchhikers guide to checkpoint (an encyclopedia of what I made up with lots more explanation)

However I am currently writing a completely new story and with it is that I am taking some aspects from here and using the ideas on my new story. New characters, new ideas, new plot, everything is completely new. So I hope that goes well and i'll leave this story up as reference for me in the future. Thank you Akani Kizuato. It was as if he was banned to go to any of those places but uknowingly why. As he ranted, and relieved stress on the school rooftop, he had received an email from an anonymous source saying that he was accepted into some academy, which he had never heard of before. With events that lead up to his mysterious encounter with people who are there to take him, it may be quite a ride. Cover art made in Adobe Spark.
