《First Draft》Night Nine

Night nine. I observed the closed doors, looking at the time. I'd woken up a bit late, and was half an hour late. It didn't really matter all that much. The doors remained unlocked at midnight until someone walked through them, but... Damn. If I walked into those doors, there was a chance I'd never leave them. A very, very big chance. I took a hesitant step forward, and tried the doors. They were locked.
Relaxing, I turned to leave, only for all of them to slam open when I got a few steps away. An invisible force dragged me by the back of my collar into the school, and the doors locked as I coughed, choking.
Dropped to the ground, I coughed, trying not to touch the poltergeist's shoes as I took in breath after breath.
"You're late," He said, voice showing how unamused he was.
I didn't respond, just getting to my feet and opening the janitor's closet. I grabbed what I needed and started at my typical cleaning spot.
Throughout the night there was another monster. This one appeared only on chairs, and if I ever got close its knife-like hair floated up and brushed against me. I had to jump away more than once so my throat wouldn’t be slit. When the child-like creature saw me cleaning carefully around the chairs, though, it started cleaning the chairs, too.
The night passed by quickly, which had more to do with my exhaustion than the fact that it was a quiet night. I punched the incubus in the face when he dripped hot wax onto the floors, which made the creep laugh, and the corner-being sometimes added corners, trying to get me to turn into rooms that didn't exist. I glared at him every time he did so, though I didn’t make eye contact.

Even Mr. Chatty got in my way more than usual, which was saying something, as he typically halted all of my movements for at least an hour a night.
When I finally finished, I turned to leave. It was only about ten minutes until sunrise, but the doors were locked. It wasn't fair, that he went against his own god-damned rules with me.
"If you want to leave, you'll have to actually talk to me, you know."
I turned around, avoiding eye contact. Evidently speaking to him gave him the wrong idea, so I needed to correct that somehow.
"Whenever I talk to you, it either pisses you off or gives you the wrong idea. I'm done talking to you."
"Mm, well, if you stop talking to me, I'll go back to how I usually run things... But I'll stop protecting you from the ghosts. It's a shame, really, because I liked you. I was under the impression you cared about me, too."
I thought about it, and shrugged, "You wish I cared."
"I do. Have a good last day alive."
I huffed out a laugh, shaking my head, "If I follow the rules, I'll survive just fine."
"Mm, maybe, but some of the rules are wrong. Suggestions, too. For example, you found that my trigger was disrespect. What if the other rules are wrong, too? I know for a fact one of them will get you killed. Almost immediately, tomorrow, actually."
I shook my head and tried the door. It was still locked.
"I'm cool wi-"
I was slammed, again, into the wall nearest the doors. My head ached, and I stared into the eyes of Lucifer. I chuckled.
"I'm cool with that. The Head Janitor will pay my brother the cash, if I die. It's in my contract."

Lucifer growled, but released me. The doors unlocked, and I left. Five nights left until I could quit this damned job.
I texted the Head Janitor, "You better pay my brother when/if I die tomorrow the money I made or I'll do worse than the ghost threatened you with."
"Sure. I'll start looking for another midnight janitor too, if you're sure you'll die."
"90% sure. The 10% is optimistic hope that I'm pretty sure isn't actually accurate."
"Ah. Rest in Peace. Want me to bury you with the rest of the janitors?"
"There will be nothing left to bury, so no, not really. See you in an hour. Also hold my first paycheck until tomorrow, too."

This must be in the hidden gems collection " -3ndlesslove"This was, by far, the best one I've read. It just resonated with me when it came to Noah's POV. It wasn't something that just magically came together. It took time and effort for them to get to where they are, and I respect that. It taught me more about how to look at things so thanks a lot for making this book. I meant a lot to me. I will definitely read the sequel and your other books" - Generik_Jay
