《Ph. D. In Sorcery》Chapter 17 - New magic

Thoughts ran through Ana’s head as she saw the incoming kiss. They yes’s and no’s abundant, but with Lia’s pushing, she went with it. In the end, it was easier to blame the spirit than to blame herself.
The kiss was electric, the hair at the back of her neck standing up as their lips touched. All the exhaustion of the previous day vanished as she embraced the intimate moment. The problem of this being her first intimate moment in half a year was that it truly was electric, but Ana had enough mind to discharge the buildup into the ground without it becoming an issue.
But that action made sparks around Ana, and for a moment she feared that Angel would back out of the wonderful embrace. But instead, the girl gripped her more tightly, and when their tongues met, not even the cheers around the fire directed at them mattered.
Ana never put much stock in love, or anything similar to it. She dated plenty of men and women, with and without sex, and usually, she grew bored fairly quickly. Nicole was different in that they both had long hours at work and only saw each other in the mornings and evenings, even the weekends were not a known fact for them.
Still, as years went by she tried and succeeded at making it work, not out of any idea of having a family as she had mostly given up on that, more out of a sense that it would be harder to form said relationships in the latter years and it was comforting to have someone to come to after work.
Nothing she had experienced so far even came close to what she felt now. Time moved slower, her emotions exploding and the magic within her boiling. She learned fairly early on that magic was also fueled by emotions, and in situations of high emotional turmoil, one had to keep their mind clear so that their magic wouldn’t run unchecked.
Swimming through the storm of her mind she used the meditation technique Lia had taught her to detach her mind and body in order to calm the magic that was threatening to explode from her. But as magic was unpredictable, and so was the outcome.
Instead of calming her mind and thus her emotions, she actually got detached from her body. In a blink of an eye, she was watching herself and Angel as their hands were moving about seductively.
Looking around the party was in full swing, the cheer when they kissed was dying down, and she wondered how her body was still moving without her in it. But then she remembered. Lia. The two could communicate with their thoughts and so she tried, getting an I’m a little busy here as her answer. She wanted to get angry but her emotions remained eerily calm.
You are in control now? She asked Lia
Yup, and I gotta say you made a hell of a pick with this one.
But how are we detached?
No idea, but it was either to let you fall unconscious or take over. And I figured you didn’t want to pass out during a first kiss. Woah, this girl is feisty. Lia took the girl in her lap as they continued their passionate kiss. Magic is your realm girl, you fix this while I entertain our guest.
Ana tried and found her control over magic was limited in this state, while she could utilize it, her influence over the physical world around her was gone. Focused on solving the problem with her eyes closed, she didn’t notice when Lia picked up Angel and left the crowd.

Several minutes passed with her trying different things when she noticed a tug in her chest. Looking around she couldn’t see Lia or Angel anywhere, but she did notice a transparently blue line going from her back to one of the houses. Another tug pulled her breath away and she realized that she was growing more tired with every passing second.
With many spells that she cast before she knew when she was running out of juice to keep powering one, and when the moment came and the spell disappeared she found herself back in her own body. The memories of what Lia did in those two minutes rushed back, which made her fail to notice the positions of her body, extremities, fingers, the loud gasping, and the disappointed sigh of Lia.
She woke up intertwined with Angel, now fully aware that her new body had several new intimate areas.
You could have warned me that the ears and tail arrived with extra perks.
I find that a surprise now then is good for the soul.
Last night was awesome and weird, and sorry how you got kicked out. I know we share a body and not having control most of the time must be driving you insane.
Not really, I find it therapeutic. A new word I got from you. But after spending so long without a body, I don’t mind being in the background. It was fun though.
And If I figure out how I did that spell it might open up new possibilities for us.
That does sound interesting.
The smell of the morning coupled with Angel's hair was something to be cherished. But she did feel bad for usurping someone's bed for the night. Considering no one had kicked them out or woken them, the news must have spread. Ana just hoped she wouldn’t exit the house with Angel in hand to a parade of claps.
And thankfully everyone was too busy for that. Not wanting to wake the sleeping beauty she slowly got out of the bed and left for the door. It was early morning and there wasn’t much activity around, but she noticed an old humanoid with feline features and grey fur sitting in a chair smoking a pipe.
She apologized for taking the man's house but only got a wave of the hand and an offer for her to join him in the other chair. She accepted, lighting her pipe as the man poured her tea. After talking to him she learned that the man had lost both his wife and his son to the beast, so learning that it was finally slain brought him peace of mind. So not interrupting two love birds was the least he could do.
They spent the rest of their time in small talk while Ana was pretty sure her ears had turned red. Soon after Ghost came by to check in, giving Ana the order to take it easy for the rest of the day, considering the effort she put in yesterday. They both knew he meant the floating platform, but a smirk was on his face that made Ana turn even redder.
Angel soon woke after that, repeating what Ana said when she saw the man, but joined them afterward. It was a nice slow day, scouting teams went and came by. All of it had a distinct effect on one ego. Being the ultimate weapon, not doing chores and menial labor as you were needed for more important work, and so on. It kept getting harder to stay grounded.
Whenever she felt superior to others, she would beat that feeling with a golf club with some help from Lia, as it was too good for a simple baseball bat. Still, both her and Angel's position in the group meant they got to avoid doing a lot of annoying tasks and could enjoy their mornings with tea.

So their day passed as the long wagon was completed and the bird parts loaded up. The feathers even though they were light were quite sharp and sturdy. She had no idea what they would be used for but was interested in finding out.
The day went by slowly and so did the next two as they were making their way towards the next village. The new cart was going slowly and had slowed their pace considerably. Nothing changed much, and she was thankful Angel wasn’t clingy as Ana hated public show of affection and the girl seemed to be like-minded.
It was also strange knowing that Angel was older than her even though in Ana’s eyes she looked younger, but then again she looked pretty young herself when she looked in a mirror. A lot of things she had to get used to. Still, it was pretty nice as they would share a bed during the night, and the added warmth was quite pleasant.
But her mind couldn’t help but wonder. It had been half a year since she came to this world and yet she couldn’t shrug the feeling that she was somehow betraying Nicole. Her ego helped a lot by beating that feeling down. She hoped that this new world had the same rules that applied to Vegas if she ever got back.
Their trip to the next two villages went without issue, and in those villages, they were welcomed as heroes. As much as it was bad to let a feeling of superiority go to your head, it felt amazing to be praised as a hero and a savior. And it didn’t help that Ghost had shifted all that praise on her shoulders.
On the road to the last village while settling to search for monsters they found signs of battle, and by the evidence left behind it wasn’t anything big, but was something monstrous for certain by the broken trees and dug-up ground.
With the fortification already built, Ghost took Ana with a party of ten to check what had caused the battle. There were no bodies around only traces of fresh blood that indicated that the battle took place that morning. Everyone fully geared up, with Frost left behind in charge. He was the go-to second in command that Ghost usually left in charge.
Ana secured her swords tightly as she was going to fly and in the strong magnetic field the swords became a burden, but she had gotten good enough that it didn’t impede her much. She couldn’t use them while she flew but if she landed a pair of blades would come in handy.
And for the first time, everyone but her was sporting a shield, as in the case of projectiles, she had her own. The site of the battle didn’t have any magic she could sense, so it was highly unlikely that a wizard was present.
Ana kept to the skies while others followed the trail, leading them towards the village they were headed. Nimble and Pops rode ahead to the village to check on the situation while the others followed the trail. Minute by minute ticked in the tense situation, as an ambush could have been anywhere they proceed carefully.
After a few hours of them carefully and slowly following the tracks in formation they learned that the tracks kept leading towards the village, but the two riders hadn’t returned. Not wanting to send more people by themselves, the whole group went towards the village at a fast pace.
Seeing Hammer run she knew they weren’t being stealthy, but with her, in the skies above them, the chance of an ambush was minuscule and worth the risk. It took them less than an hour for Ana to spot the village in the distance, and from her point of view she couldn’t see any sign of her two companions, and there didn’t seem to be any activity from the villagers.
No fires, smoke, or anyone moving that she could spot. Giving the signal the group below her stopped for her to relay the information. It was a tricky situation, a trap in the village was to be expected but every wasted minute could also mean the death of one of theirs.
So a plan of attack was devised, Hammer and Ana were left behind as the group carefully approached the open entrance to the village. While it wasn’t easy, Ana was able to lift while Hammer held to the iron board with one hand. It was gonna be one hell of a surprise to anyone in there planning to spring a trap on them.
The duo went to the other side of the wall, waiting for the signal to drop in. Each second passing could have meant that one of their friends was dead or dying, but she knew that discipline was the most important part of the military. And while they weren’t in a war, it still meant that proper discipline could save all of their lives.
After the first minute mark, which she knew exactly thanks to Lia, both she and Hammer became restless. Close to the second minute mark, the signal game. Ghost’s roar which was amplified with magic resounded through the area scaring off several birds.
Not wasting time Ana took the skies with Hammer in tow, cresting over the wall and several houses before she spotted the group in a formed shield wall repelling what looked like crazed villagers. Not thinking about that she stuck to the plan, flying low enough to let Hammer drop-down swinging his hammer and throwing several villagers with it.
At that cue, everyone pushed with their shields throwing the creatures back, before charging ahead to join Hammer. Ana remained in the sky, looking around to assess the situation. Most of the streets were empty and the creatures were storming out of buildings. Seeing that one of the houses was far enough away from the group she focused her spell with Lia in tow.
As her spell was forming she yelled with all her voice, the words bringing the added emotions to fuel the spell. She released the spell as she finished, using everything she could to fuel it, but changing it from its previous state. A little something her added control allowed.
Instead of a single lightning strike, a storm of lightning erupted from her outstretched hands, sending her targets and their charred body parts flying where she pointed. Using the now stream of lightning she burned and zapped every creature that wasn’t close to her group.
Turning around to look for more targets had blocked her view as something tackled her from the back, sending her flying down with its momentum. Panic took her, no matter how much she prepared, being in combat like this was still new to her.
Before she could realize what was happening she felt a sharp pain in her neck, which was then followed by the largest ecstasy she ever felt. It was so intense that she lost control of the spell which was still fueled by the intense feeling, but now with no control.
She landed on the roof, crashing through it into the house. But none of that mattered as the feeling of ecstasy only intensified. It grew to such a degree that every slip of control she had was gone, even Lia’s voice was but a distant memory.
That also meant that her control over the wild magic in her was gone, causing her clothes, the person behind her, and the entire house around her to turn to dust as she screamed in pleasure.
Time went by as she struggled to regain control over herself but the exhaustion of expelling so much magic helped. Soon she felt her heartbeat, her breathing, Lia’s voice, the feeling of her body, and the pain in her neck. Everything came back as she heaved for breath naked surrounded by dust.
Other voices came to as well, Ghost was yelling at her, she looked back to see him bleeding but alive with the rest of the monsters put down. Then she noticed the still swirling orb of mist around her, with the usual greenish color streaked by red.
Focusing again she brought the wild energy back into herself, which was like a jolt of adrenaline for her body. At that moment she didn’t care if she was naked, only that her friends were safe. Getting out of the dust and looking around she noticed the several of them were down and not moving.
“Can you still fly?!” Ghost yelled, having to raise his voice to shake the daze out of Ana. She nodded.
“Get Angel quickly! We will secure the perimeter and tend to the wounded as best as we can while we wait.” She nodded again. Extending her field she tried sensing where her makeshift board was but soon realized that it was turned to dust.
“I need something metal and big enough to carry us both,” Ana whispered and Ghost nodded, sending Gramps and Sunny to look for something big made of metal. He took off his cloak and draped it around Ana, seeing that she was bleeding from her neck now that she shook off the dust from her body.
“Your bleeding. What happened?” He asked in a lower calm tone.
Ana tried to explain opening her mouth but nothing came out. Her memory was all jumbled up, throwing lightning and hopefully not insulting Thor if he indeed was a god in this world was the last thing she could reliably remember. After that was only a jumbled mess, except for the feeling of ecstasy. “I can’t remember?” She asked more than she told, smearing the blood with one hand.
“Are you certain you can fly? The last thing I need is for you to crash somewhere alone!” She nodded again, covering herself with more of the cloak, using a bit of rope Ghost handed her to tie it around her waist.
“Yes! I’ll be fine, we got bigger fish to fry right now, and the wound isn’t serious.” He nodded when she spoke with a firm and decisive tone. Gramps and Sunny came after that carrying a large kettle that had more than enough room to fit several people, but only half of Hammer inside.
She blinked a few times trying to figure out a way to lift such an object without sending it into a spin. It took her a few tries as she slowly rose from the ground and made her way towards their camp.
She didn’t know what happened to Nimble and Pops but she hoped that they were fine, as well as anyone hurt who she left behind. Flying in a straight direction without a need to slow down meant she got to the fort fairly quickly, but with the lightheadedness she overdid it with the speed and overshot the fort, having to double back.
Landing in the open area Frost ran up to her asking what happened. Not wanting to waste time she spoke quickly. “I need Angel, several injuries I don’t know how bad is it but the danger seemed to have passed.” Angel was there in a few seconds with wide eyes at the pale shaking Ana.
After repeating quickly that there were multiple injuries she got into the kettle and the two went flying back to the village.

Kaine sighed as his foe advanced once more, never letting up, barely giving him time to breathe. He pressed forward as well, excited and ready, welcoming the bloodshed that was to come. His short blade, meeting the bestial warrior's bone-made longsword. Their weapons clattering sound into each of their ears when they clashed. Kaine pushed, as did his foe, beginning the contest of strength. A dance which Kaine controlled the steps of. As their eyes met, both of them weary, but Kaine's expression was resolved...maddened almost. Whilst his foe's was fear-struck, the creature was terrified down to its core. As were its comrades which surrounded them, watching, waiting for an opening to have at Kaine themselves. Seeing many...but they faltered, as the dead had seen the same openings before. Their battered, broken and still freshly bleeding bodies laying sprawled about their surroundings. It is just one... One of them thought in shaken disbelief. Just...Just one man but he kills so many...smiling even! Glancing from the dead, and back at Kaine as he slew another. No...this is no man... Was its panicked conclusion. This one's a monster! As Kaine turned to face it, weapon ready and grinning widely throughout his approach.
