《Rejection (completed)》Chapter 2 - Divine Intervention

System warning: rejection stated

Are you Sure?

James watched the window warp and flicker slightly as the message changed, reacting to his outburst.

"YES! Fuck this system, I reject It!" James yelled again, a faint glimmer of hope rising in him. If he could break this, or stop the system from changing anything, everything would go back to normal.

Confirmation received...

James waited a tense few seconds while the window seemed to mull over his decision.

System rejected in user: James Lander

Personal system change cancelled

World system shift hold...

Contacting higher power...

James was taken aback. Who was this higher power? Why were they trying to change People? And change how?

As these questions swirled inside James' head, a seed of fear grew inside him. What would happen to him?

Personal system restarted

Conditions altered under moderator: LUC1F3R

Character creation proceeding.

Calculating character data...

James' face fell. This was really going to happen. In a moment of unabated terror, James' life flashed before his eyes. Everything was going so well until this had to happen. Every plan he had set up for himself and every precaution he had taken were dashed aside.

As the system calculated... whatever, James sat on the floor and emptied his mind. Whatever was happening looked to show no sign of progress, so James figured he would try to relax in what he considered to be his last normal moments.

Calculations complete: character status ready

Proceed to creation

James was oblivious to these messages though as he had shut his eyes and was trying as hard as possible to wake up from what he now realised was a dream. The window, seemingly tired of being ignored, started to give off a quiet, periodic ringing. James ignored this as best as he could before the volume started to increase, and he was forced to open his eyes.

As soon as he finished reading the words though, the window disappeared again and a white door opened in the wall of the classroom, a bright light inside it. Taking one last breath, James muttered a short curse under his breath and ran towards the door.

There was no immediate change to his environment beyond the door, James was just surrounded by the same bright light that seemed to emanate from every surface, even himself.

The door behind him shut with a soft click and instantly everything went dark.

A window appeared before James, bigger than any he had seen before. This white box was divided in two, with a naked Image of James on the left side, standing casually.

The right side, however, was all text and appeared to list his bodily attributes with a numerical value next to them. Before he could look in greater detail, another window popped up.

Special conditions met:

•Failed/successful rejection

•Divine intervention

The following skills/features/spells have been unlocked:

Feature: Ultimate Chance (A)

Spell: Divine Contract (S)

This meant nothing to James. He had suspected it earlier with the suspicious looking username of the 'higher power' that had forced this on him, but it appeared that God, or rather Gods were real.

Putting that specific line of enquiry on the backburner, James once again focused on the message in front of him and tried to decipher its meaning.

Drawing a blank, and throwing a chain of dismissive curses at the small window, James was surprised to see it disappear, revealing the larger window again. With more time to examine the worded side, James read what was in front of him in its entirety.

Though most of this went over James' head, he understood the basic stats to an extent. But he felt somewhat insulted at being given what appeared to be a low strength. He stared at the word, unsure of what exactly it meant. So what if he missed leg day every now and again, he was hardly a pushover.

But before he could vocalise his complaints, another small window appeared under the word Strength:

Strength (stat):

Strength is the measure of one's overall physical ability, where one point in strength measures to how much damage can be done by an all-out punch.

James blinked a few times and looked away from this smaller window. Maybe 7 wasn't so bad. The window disappeared as his focus left it, so he tried again with the other words on the right side of his vision.

After scanning the entire list thoroughly, James learnt the following things:

James Lander (male):

Above average in most aspects, this new character has attempted to reject the shift and will struggle to adapt to this change.

Age (title):

The number of years lived by the bodies perspective. Current age: 18 years, 11 months, 2 days.

Class (title):

Vitality (stat):

Vitality is the measure of one's health, and the damage that can be taken before status effects appear and one's life is lost.

Upon level up, the effectiveness, power or damage of the skill may increase. Upon rank up, the skill may gain extra effects.

Basic fitness (skill): Passive

One of the world gifts, basic fitness is a necessity to survival by allotting the bodily measurements into statistics and giving the user the ability to improve them. Upon levelling, unallocated stat points will be awarded. Upon ranking, a new stat will be calculated and added.

Spells level up through prolonged use and gain power or efficiency when they do so. When a high enough level or understanding of the spell is achieved, it may branch or evolve.

Mana force (spell):

The second world gift, mana force allows for mana in the air to be moved and manipulated at the cost of the bodies mana. Cost: (learn upon use)

Divine contract (spell):

Unlocked by: noticed by and acted upon by a deity.

'Let their power become yours.'

Channel the power of a contacted deity briefly, massively increasing all stats while this is active.

Contracted deity: Lucifer (power level:8001)

Effect: while active, all stats are multiplied by the divine power level of the contracted deity.

Cost: 1000 mana per second.

Warning: overuse of this spell may affect the contracted deity, and burn out the user. Use with caution.

After absorbing all the information he could, and beginning to understand his situation a little better, James relaxed slightly. This looked like something he could work with.
