《Trouble!》01 - Episode Belle - 002

I close my eyes and concentrate my mana to my nerve center. I am in my own world and wrapping its endless arms around me is a light unlike any other. It’s the so-called light of life or the essence of mana. Normal people should be able to faintly sense mana when it is dispersed around them but seeing it in its most natural form is impossible, at least for everyone else. Sensing the entire city around me as a form of wisp, the light moves, seemingly searching for others like it.
“I can see it.” Processing the mana around me as though they were numbers and words, I look towards the East, the symbol of the rising Sun. “Found you.” I lick my lips in satisfaction. “Hold on to your hats gentlemen.”
I open my eyes and focus mana towards my extremities. I can feel the power building up in my body. The environment reacts to the stimuli that my mana is generating and as I lowered myself in anticipation of the sudden burst of speed that I am going to go through, the earth below me shatters and the buildings start to violently vibrate in their place. The black lightning around me intensifies, causing destruction to the world around me.
Electricity is generated by an outburst of mana and fire is created when that mana is concentrated within the body. Normally, thunder is yellow or something in that hue but the thunder that I generate is black. It is more intense and it indiscriminately burns the world around it, wanting to paint the entire world in ebony which is why I have to fight alone.
Feeling the power inside of me reach at least an eighth of its total capacity, I calmly exhale. “Burn.” I draw my sword and the sudden outburst of mana launches me at a speed that supersedes reality. I travel in a straight line and everything around me is immobile, as though the world has stopped but I know better. I pass through buildings and carriages but they do not violently explode nor do I burst through them, I simply disintegrate whatever I’m passing through. I am travelling at the speed of light and I see enemy soldiers stopped like the world around all of us and before them were a group of terrified women and children.

I understand killing your enemies but to mindlessly execute citizens that had nothing to do with the war you are waging is stupid though I understand the pleasure bloodshed brings to the individual.
Passing through the enemies, I waved my sword and put it back in its sheath and with it, the images surrounding me slowly return to normal and I hear cries for mercy and sympathy but drowning that is the drunken laughs and insults the soldiers are throwing at them.
I stopped a few meters away from the enemies and one of them notices me.
“Oi,” he spits at my shoe, “bitch.” He tries walking towards me but before he can even take a step, his foot violently melts away. “What the fuck?” He cries out, “What the fuck did you do to me?!”
The others start pointing their weapons towards me but what follows are the sounds of metal hitting stone. They’re dropping their swords along with their now melting hands. Some of them are screaming while some of them are crying but most of them are just hurling insults at me.
By now I am deeply breathing, surrounded by the pleasure of death.
“Your screams are starting to get me wet.” I inhale the smell of their rupturing organs and pleasurably exhale.
The looks on their faces, or at least what’s left of it was simply a sight to behold. They were confused and afraid of their horrible fate. I did not attack them, I simply passed through them and like the buildings before them so they started disintegrating at the molecular level. Dying like this is a horrible way to die.
With the last of them finally drew his last breath, I continue towards the east, releasing thunder and fire behind me. The people I saved couldn’t even thank me, I understand their fear but this is why I am fated to be alone. Only ‘he’ understands.

I jump up and release a huge chunk of my mana and I use my fire to thrust up to the sky. Essentially, one could call this flying but it isn't. I simply launched myself upwards and I am slowly countering gravity with a huge concentration of fire hot enough to burn an entire palace into ashes.
To the east, I see an anchored warship which can only be the enemy flagship. Surrounding the gigantic ship were about eight dozen frigates and armored battleships.
I draw my sword and start focusing another eighth of my total capacity to it. I channel my runes.
“Activate Runes - Dreadnought”
A dazzling light came from my sword, Grandia. I raised it up to the heavens and I recounted the incantation to use the Anti-Military Rune, Dreadnought.
“As terrible as Lightning and as intense as Hellfire, I call upon the might of the Gods and beseech them to lend me their power! Shatter the wicked and feast on their skins – “ I prepared my stance, “Smite them, Grandia!’
The light from my sword shined brighter than the sun, giving the sky the illusion that it was daylight when in reality, its half-past 8 in the evening. I swung the sword in a wide arc and it released an energy as intense as its light and hotter than hellfire. The energy that was released was as big as the smallest frigate but it was faster than lightning. Time seemed to stop as the soldiers on the ships remain dumbfounded and unable to act, not realizing that their moment of demise was coming for them.
Like a raindrop disturbing a flower’s peace, Dreadnought hit the flagship and imploded upon itself, generating three hundred tons worth of fire and pressure and it rapidly expanded, slowly eating away at the other ships in their fleet. In a few short moments, only the dry harbor remained and some bits and scraps of the enemy ships scattered around. Seems as though dreadnought evaporated a huge chunk of the harbor.
I sigh, "I have to make it less potent next time."
With the danger coming to an end, I take a deep breath and resolve myself to find Keith.
“Approximately 300 ships destroyed and all this in 8 minutes….I think I’m losing my touch.”
I laughed amidst the stench of death and suffering, losing myself to my bloodlust.

But Alcar knows that there is an exciting world of adventure out there. And when he sees a half-orc master sorcerer walking through his neighborhood, he decides to grab his chance. He approaches Master Maluhk to offer his services as an apprentice. And to his shock, the sorcerer agrees to let him come and try his luck along with several other applicants. Soon though, it is all too clear that Alcar, clumsy and lazy as he is, lacks any natural magical talent. It also becomes apparent that Master Maluhk is only interested in ’apprentices’ in order to get someone to do his laundry and tidy up his books. At best, Alcar and the others have signed up to do unpaid labor. Things go from bad to worse when his fellow applicants for the role of apprentice prove to be reckless in the extreme, and as Master Maluhk’s tower catches fire, Alcar soon finds himself being blamed for their misdemeanors. Can Alcar clear his name, gain another chance, and learn enough to show that he has the potential to be a proper sorcerer’s apprentice? [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
