Chapter 8: The Bandit Camp
After Jessica pulled the bandit to the ground and whispered to him to be quiet or she would slit his throat, the others came rushing toward them, two of the guards grabbed the bandit, tying his hands together and putting a cloth in his mouth to make sure he can not make any noises, in case any bandits were nearby, as the guard tie the man up against one of the trees multiple ropes to make sure he had no way of escaping, they also took all his equipment that could be used to escape, leaving him behind at the tree, they sneak around, while one guard stayed behind with the bandit, just in case.
As they all move forward nineteen guards, the head guard Dean, Jessica, and Vanessa, quickly rush to the secret treehouse, Jessica sighs, ‘after this I will need to move houses, too many know of this one now’, as she quickly climbs up, getting two bows and a dagger, herself a bow since she already had a knife on her, she gave the dagger to Vanessa who did not know how to use it, she puts it away as she grabs the bow with full confidence, as both of them have ten arrows on their back, after Jessica got them from the camouflaged treehouse, after this little stop they moved on, Jessica showed them the way to the bandit hideout.
Before they left the bandit behind with one of the guards they questioned him, he was stubborn, but Dean the head guard got him to talk, well it took a while but he made him talk in the end, the things he did were on another level, not something a normal head guard would do, but then again Dean was not someone who originally came from the village himself nobody knows a whole lot about him, but that is not the point at the moment, they got him to talk about their hideout, and they made sure Jessica was talking about the same place, which indeed was the hideout of the bandits they did not move since a week ago, Dean got him to tell them there was a captured woman there tied up at a tree just like he was now.

It did not take long before they could see a lot of light from a distance away in the forest, as they all sneak around the bushes, bandits were patrolling all around the camp, multiple were drinking, and one massive guy in the middle, two big swords on his back, and a cut on his left eye, he was wearing a red mask, dark black hair, this guy could actually be big trouble, and probably was the boss, Dean instantly recognized the massive man in the middle, he whispers to the others, ‘that is Scar, pretty ironic since he did not have a scar until I fought him, I can recognize a scar I made even after years, but that scar is not the problem, this guy is bad news, especially… since he is here, that means, they are here too…’, nobody knew what Dean was talking about but one thing was for sure, it could not be anything good.
The group decided to shadow the camp for a while, seeing if there were any weak spots they could attack from, or try to sneak up on most of the bandits at once, to avoid useless loss of men, but suddenly one of the bandits rushes to the massive guy, he whispers something into the massive guy his ear, as the massive guy stands up, he is even taller then you can imagine, he walks off in the opposite direction from where they were at.
To Be Continued.

Apollyon's Curse
Within the pages of folklore and fantasy, tales of people who chase after the dream of eternity, of living forever, rarely find a happy ending. They are either struck by the grim truth of reality, give up, and return to mortality or face a ghastly realization of their wishes. The latter often the worse fate, as they come to realize, only far too late, that what they sacrificed was worth far more than the time they gained. Ultimately, the common thread in these stories is that “immortality is as much a curse as it is a blessing”. People either realize it early and give up or are doomed to inevitably face its consequences. In the world Enrich lives in, that saying does hold merit. Every pathway towards eternal life has shackles of its own. They bring those high above down to the ground, evening the playing field. It is thanks to these fundamental laws that ambitious mortals are able to defy the heavens and achieve immortality themselves. The variety of methods result in each of these bindings varying in intensity and degree of freedom. Enrich’s path doesn't break this trend. Though, after what he did to himself, most wouldn’t even consider him a living thing anymore. On the day of his ascension, a world’s worth of souls were melted and recast. On that day, the human’s path had reached its conclusion, recast into Apollyon. An artifact, a weapon, is eternal, after all. As for the curse? The payment will be made, as it must. So why not offload the curse to someone else? Mortals throw their lives away for all manner of petty reasons, noble or otherwise, especially in desperation. Eventually, someone will be willing to foot the bill. Most will if given the chance. The bait is far too tempting, after all. Power, status, knowledge. All at their fingertips. If only they say “yes”. And Apollyon is very willing to help any lost souls. If they give up everything in return, of course.

This story has been published, but I'm adding it here for Royal Road readers to enjoy.

Barry Buckman and the Interdimensional Beastiary
In the beginning of 2021 I did something possibly stupid, I hired a ghostwriting company to write one of the many ideas going on in my head since I was busy with my job. Unfortunately... They were not the greatest, after the first writer assigned to me left I was stuck with... We'll just call her 'Karen'. Karen didn't want to listen to my feedback on chapters, and turned what was supposed to be a long story about a young guy surviving on an island of supernatural and crazy stuff, and becoming stronger from it, was turned into a not so great romance novel.I plan on releasing another one, probably after this that will be Barry Buckman Redux, which will be me writing it out the way I originally envisioned it.
