《Chamrosh》Hatchling

Inside of a dark cell who’s walls did not permit even the slightest traces of light to intrude, something woke up. It began to move, driven by instinct rather than intuition, thrusting its body against the room’s boundaries, pawing at it, nuzzling it. SNAP! A small sliver of dim sunlight was allowed to enter, the creature gnawed at the slit tearing sharp pieces of the thin white shell off with its teeth until eventually... CRACK!

It had hatched, a small fox-like creature with front paws like the talons of a hawk and small feathers protruding from the length of its front legs. It scanned the small nestle of tree roots and brambles it was housed in curiously, seeing small bits of other shells strewn about the floor. Once again it followed the urges it had been born with and feast upon the shell. Once finished the small Chamrosh crawled its way out of the burrow, which housed the nest, and towards the light of the sun. Peeking its small head out the hole’s entrance warily it saw what it knew implicitly to be its mother as well as its brothers and sisters. Mom rushed over to greet the last of her young, licking her daughter clean and nudging her towards the rest of her hatchlings.

The little chamrosh investigated her brothers and sisters fervently, sniffing them, licking them, prodding them, and appraising them. It was just as natural as breathing or walking, the ability to appraise the status of all other beings is hardwired into all monsters from birth.

All of her brothers and sisters had similar results with minor variations between them. Her siblings of course treated her with a similar amount of interest that she had to them, and everyone seemed satisfied with the work they had done.

Seeing this, Mom gave a high pitched bark and all 7 hatchlings focused their attention on her, she beckoned them to follow her and set off at a slow pace so as to not lose anyone during the journey. The youngest chamrosh was able to keep pace at the front of the flock slightly behind mom, some of her siblings stumbled over small rocks or tree roots a couple of times, but she managed to stay balanced without tripping even once by the time they had arrived at their destination. Mom stopped walking when they reached a slow moving creek, and began to drink from the stream. She and her siblings followed the example mom set and drank for themselves, she was a little bit shocked by how cold it felt on her tongue but drinking the crystal clear water felt nice and refreshing. She had drunk her fill, and was waiting patiently for mom and those who were still drinking to finish when a loud cracking noise came from behind them. All 8 Chamroshes snapped their heads towards the noise, and mom started snarling. A large boar with yellow eyes and black fur glowered at their flock, its large tusks loomed over their heads and it snorted at them tauntingly. Mom acted so fast that the youngest’s eyes couldn’t even track her movement, in an instant she was directly in front of the huge boar slashing at its face with her knife sharp talons. One of its eyes was blitzed out of existence and the place where her claws had slashed exploded into flames, the boar did not have time to react, mom was already prepared for the next attack, but this time she did not strike. Instead she opened her mouth and spat out a ball of flame that caused the boar’s thick fur to erupt into a blaze. It freaked out, dashing blindly into the side of a tree causing a downpour of pinecones and needles. It continued bucking wildly for a few more seconds in some blind hope of survival until finally it went limp and lay smoking on the forest floor.

Each and every hatchling stared at their mother admiringly, slightly shocked and what had just transpired. The youngest, realizing that she had neglected to do so before, inspected mom just as she had done to her siblings. She nudged her paw, sniffed at her legs, playfully bit at her tail, and appraised her.
