Chapter 11 - Soldiers of Tal
Middle of the Winter Season.
Business is still going well for the Orient Inn.
Ramiel is busy serving customers as always. While at the ends of the day, he would read up the symbols Felli wrote for him. He managed to memorize the letters or symbols of the language. Syllables were next on his learning list, but he still sucks at getting the right tone of the language.
It doesn't help that he had constant headaches when remembering the slaughter in the slums.
He is still trying to recover from the trauma he got from that place. He is being helped by Felli, but even so, nightmares are not that easily extinguished.
Ramiel at the moment is cleaning the porch of the Inn. Snow flew off on the front of the Inn, so since Felli was busy taking care of shopping. And being the only employee in the Inn, he was tasked to clean up the snow piles.
Still a lot more.
He thought while looking at the three feet tall pile of snow in front of him. Using a shovel, he has managed to remove most of the snow that was blocking the window. In fact, when Felli went out of the Inn, she was surprised at the amount of snow that piled up.
Luckily she managed to push the snow pile forward instead of letting the snow scatter inside the store. If the store got poured with snow, the Inn probably would have to skip the day's business.
There are still customers inside the Inn.
Most of them are eating their breakfast, which is a courtesy of the Inn. Ramiel served them their breakfast, which Felli instructed him to do so too. But really, all he did was reheat the food, and serve it to the ones that woke up. It is a free meal, so they really didn't have any complaints nor ordered.

Because if they did, then Ramiel would have a big problem.
He still can't understand the language after all.
The Snow really is a lot... I don't remember some sort of blizzard yesterday night. Or was I too asleep?
He pondered while digging through the snow.
He shoveled, and so on until most of the snow were not leaning on the walls of the Inn.
"Good morning."
A person called out to Ramiel.
He replied, "Good Morning" and nodded.
The person nodded back. "Have a good day."
Ramiel nodded again.
The person went on walking until he took a turn. Ramiel finally manages to learn what 'Good Morning' is in this land. Also, 'good day' 'a' and 'have' is something he learned too. When it gets repeated every day, Ramiel wasn't stupid enough to not recognize the words and match them to what he thinks.
So far in he only knows how to greet people who come in. Felli seems pleased by that, considering Ramiel doesn't really understand a single word in the first days of winter. So his progress is pretty average. Most of the child in the Town of Tal, who are not toddlers would learn, sadly much faster than Ramiel.
To be fair the are natives of this world. So them being to learn the language faster, is an advantage to them. They associate faster since they constantly surrounded by people speaking the language.
Thus it shouldn't be of concerned to Ramiel he is lesser than a child.
He continued cleaning up the pile of snow before him.
As he does, he noticed a commotion just a few blocks away from him. Curious what is it, he walked to the crowding streets to take a peek only to see lines of soldiers wearing full steel armor, armed with shield and swords. There are about hundreds or more of these soldiers walking in the main streets of the town. He wondered what it was, but looking at the banner they carrying, he guessed that they are the Soldiers of Tal, the protectors of the city. Unlike the guards who just wore a kettle hat, a light armor w/ chainmail, a spear or sometimes a sword. The soldiers in front of Ramiel are much better armed and feels more intimidating that the guards.

I wonder what they are up to? Is this a military parade or something?
He thought, Looking at the soldiers, which gives a rather ominous feeling.
But in actuality, the soldiers are being gathered by the Kingdom of Lin's messenger. The messenger delivered a message to the Lord of the Town, ordering the town to spare some soldiers.
The Lord agreed obviously, not daring to refuse the Matriarch.
Ramiel has no idea what is happening. So he just stared at the leagues of soldiers marching down the main street along with the crowd.
All he can do, for now, is just speculate and watch.
Meanwhile, as Ramiel watches, the Lord who is watching his soldiers leave, frowned.
Along with the Lord is his wife, and seeing the frown on the Lord's face. His wife held his hand and gripped it tightly. The Lord is anxious about the development that is happening in the northern parts of the continent.
Hence his worries are primarily due to fear.
He doesn't know what to do other than pray to the deity Auro to bring his soldiers to the battlefield they are going and get back to the Town of Tal safely.
The Lord's worries are endless.
Ramiel, who is in the crowd felt like he overstayed his sightseeing and return back to the Inn. He still has a job to do, and since he wouldn't even understand anything anyway. He is just going to mind his own business.
