《Deathlord Eugene》Chapter 19: A New Seller

“We will have to figure out a way to sell off what he gives us long-term,” Eve says as we walk out of the portal. I feel tired. My bones seem wrecked to the point they can fall apart if I move too much. I shrug the amour she made for me and flop on the couch.

I can feel my head floating with exhaustion. I wanted a long, cold bath and a quick meal before shutting my eyes. But I can tell that isn’t happening.

“You have any plans for that?” Eve asks, looking at me. I groan and sit up. The way she looks at me, I can tell the next thing she will say won’t be pleasant. I try to think about the possible ways to make money off the loot I get from Theodore every day.

“I can buy stuff from yard sales and resell them?” I say, and Eve nods. Her hair dances a bit, but her eyes are looking away from me. The more I look at her, the more human she seems.

“Take your pervy eyes off me, Casanova,” She says, and my face reddens. We are silent for a bit, each thinking of a way to make money off of the loot I get from the Goblin King.

Theodore is changing, or maybe I am the one changing. He seems more reliable and a good buddy. I wonder about his wife and how sad he sounds whenever he talks about her.

“You have any idea where they are from?” I ask Eve. She looks up at me and shrugs. It is becoming increasingly worrying how little she knows. In games I have seen and played or read about, the status window knows a fair deal about the game.

“Yeah, but this is not a game, smart ass,” Eve says. I register she is annoyed by something. Not by me, though. I have been avoiding annoying her. Not because it isn’t fun to incite her—since that is about all I can do—but because I am always at the receiving end of her lashing tongue.

“Unlike you who had a choice at first, they didn’t. I imagine it is the same thing that pulled everyone into the dungeon, though.”

I sigh, wondering if she is right. The goblins do seem like they are adjusting to their new reality. I want to help too. I chuckle at that. I can’t help. I have so much on my shoulder that I will be suicidal to take on other people’s problems.

“We have to think about a way to sell these off without being ripped off,” Eve says. I see her eyes flutter to me, and I know she is talking about the first sales I made. She pulls a bag out and spills the trinkets and stones before me. I can see the wink of gemstones in the light. I want to smile, but Eve stops me.

“You get even uglier when you are pleased. It should be scary when you orgasm.”

I can tell my face is washed with red when she cackles and shakes her head. “Sorry, sometimes I forget you don’t know what that is.”

I grin, already familiar with her biting remarks. She chuckles and then gestures to the stones on the ground. “This time, our favorite duke did better. There is still no precious stone or diamond that you can absorb, but there are many to sell and more to use for crafting.”

I nod. Seeing all the stone before me makes me remember how things were before I made the daring jump through the portal. I chuckled at the thought. All to take a dump.

“Buying and reselling will give us trouble, and after a while, it will bring the attention we don’t want,” Eve says, and I nod. I have been thinking about that too. We need some way to be removed from the process. I smile.

I seem to have forgotten human compulsion for commerce. We just have to find someone who can be the dealer. Someone we can trust.

“Really?” Eve asks. “After what happened the other time? You want to trust one of those leaching pigs?” I laughed. Her anger seems funny, and it was beautiful how her frown made her even more radiant. Eve shook her head and sighed.

“You are one of the pigs. I seem to forget.” She split the gems. Separating the ones, we will sell from the ones she will craft with. I watch her go about it slowly, almost like she is splitting up shares for a party of adventurers—careful, so no one felt cheated.

“It is worth trying. And we need money to keep the Green King’s supply of gas.”

I nodded.

“Where do we go first?” Eve asks, and I groan. I don’t want to move from where I am, spread like a pancake. I want to close my eyes and doze off. “Hey, slumber lord, we don’t have time for you to be a lazy prick.”

I groan, slide off the couch, and curse as I push myself to take my bath. I don’t need to tell her where we are going. She can see it in my mind, I think.

I am looking forward to the cascade of water hitting me, refreshing me.

“Don’t take too long in there!” Eve screams after me. I curse her one more than and I hear her giggle.

The water is soothing when it comes down. Almost as if I had found a rejuvenating pool to soak in. I stay beneath it for a while and then wash off the rest of the smell that I brought out of the dungeon with me.

Eve smiles when she sees me. She points to her dress, asking me to change it. I frown. It feels unnecessary. No one else can see her out there. I sigh and imagine her in a different set of outfit. The jean pants seem a bit too snug, but she is smiling.

I shake my head at her—what a weird menu.
