《Lichen Leech》Author's note. I'm alive!

I'm back baby! It's been many months of bad health, bad luck, and so many adjustments. I should reassure you all, I don't have anything life threatening so I didn't and won't drop dead. However, insomnia, anxiety, and bad stress tolerance has a way of getting to a person when left alone for long enough, especially if there's more problems added to the pile over time.

Like having to drop out of uni. That was a hard blow but not one I can't recover from. If anything I think it saved me a lot of pain by nipping it in the bud early so to speak. The career I wanted to pursue just wasn't a good fit, and pushing myself towards that goal was right out unhealthy. One problem after the next piled up because I couldn't solve one before two new were cropping up, and at the end of the day I became a burned out wreck dreading having to wake up to another day where I would overwork myself. I shan't go into details too much though, mostly because it's private stuff but also because you all are here to read some good ol fantasy and not to listening to a sad sap vent on the internet.

But know that I'm doing better now. Skilled doctors with wonderful life advice, a few months on medication to let me get back into sleeping for more than 3 fitful hours a night, and a whole lot of therapy has set me back on the track to recovery. I consider myself healthy enough again to be able to run a few projects again. I missed writing. The time I spent on "break" also let me learn a whole lot of new things to make writing easier. I have a planned plot now. An actual timeline for things so I don't get stuck on what to do. Previously I just had a vague idea of direction and ending, but it turns out that that's not a good way to write a book. I wish they would have taught me the wonders of planning a book properly in school.

So now I return to the world of the living with new methods, better circumstances, and a few pre-written chapters to avoid the stress of a looming deadline. Releasing a chapter as soon as it's written is o so very tempting but not healthy for the author in the long run. You need to keep some spare chapters to release so you can take a break when you need it without falling behind.

That said, thank you for listening to me rave for a moment and please enjoy the new chapter.
