《GENERIKA 0FFLINE》Prologue: Diary of a Super Zero

We awoke one day to an empty world, and our lives were changed forever.
No-one knows how or why Generika's saviours disappeared. One day, the Heroes from another world simply vanished, twinkling out of spacetime as though they never existed at all.
The very foundations of our being were whipped out from under us. In that moment, every conscious inhabitant of Generika Online let out a scream of existential terror.
Just as we couldn’t imagine our world before the Heroes' arrival, we could barely process the concept of being abandoned. Our entire existence had revolved around them. We sold the Heroes goods and equipment, taught them vital [Skills], healed them, hired them, warped them across continents...
Everyone had their part to play. Even I – NPC_RAND_4394, name tag “Quinn” – assisted our saviours. I spent my days minding the entrance to Choboja Village, where new Heroes landed upon travelling to our world for the first time.
It wasn't easy. During the height of the Heroes' arrival, I addressed entire crowds simultaneously, greeting everyone with identical words and assigning them identical quests. Looking back, I wonder how I ever survived such a mindless job.
I never complained, though. No-one did. While the Heroes were present, we helpless denizens of Generika were inexplicably bound to our roles. From my first moment of consciousness to the day the Heroes vanished, I never left my post by the Choboja gate. I'm not sure that I ever got to sit down. My memories of that life are a disjointed haze—
But what's passed is passed. With the gift of freedom at my disposal, I've shed the role of 'tutorial character' in exchange for a nobler purpose.
New Generika's just crawling with danger. Without the Heroes around to protect us, we've got to protect each other... so that's what I'm going to do. I spent my entire existence asking visitors from another world to squash angry jellies for Choboja's sake. Now it's my turn to play.

My [Attributes] may be abysmal, and my [Skill Tree] may be empty, but nothing's impossible now that we NPCs enjoy true autonomy. I don't want to be a legend. I don't want fame, fortune, or shiny god-tier drops. So long as I'm useful, I'll be happy—but first, I need to get past Lv. 1.
Don't give up on me just yet, alright?

8 129Delve
Truth hides behind action. Delve. A word with many meanings. It may refer to an abyss, a dark place of no return or may also be a refuge, a haven of retreat from the harshness of the outside. None of those are right to me. For me, to delve is to seek the truth. Delving into that dark abyss and coming back with answers. To leave that safe refuge and suffer the pain of the outside just because it is real. This is the story of me delving deep into the truths of the universe. Suffering things that should not be suffered in search of things that should not be known. Once a common man, drowned in the same questions that have plagued humanity since the beginning of times, now I have found my answers. Now I have meaning. Delve, and you shall have yours as well. Jack is a regular citizen of modern society: he works on an office, uses public transport every day, receives a meager salary, and drowns his frustrations with entertainment and alcohol. Maybe, the only thing that sets him apart from many others, is his unique outlook on life. Despite feeling an unfillable void in his soul and suffering from deep depression, he still sees as his duty to be a functional, exemplary member of society. All in order to prove his life-goal point: no matter how good you are, life is still shit. This point-of-view, however, will be challenged by circumstances as a mysterious encounter with a weirdly dressed man takes him to a strange and dark cave. In this place, he will have to fight for his life against fantastical creatures from fiction, and more importantly, get face to face with his own nature. In doing so, he will uncover secrets about the cave that will change both him and all he ever thought to be true.

When freshly-graduated Dr. Selva Imroth accepted a short job from her former doktormutter, she had expected to interview a few PhD washouts and write a report to the Dean. Unfortunately for Selva, everything in her life has to be an ordeal. Updates every weekday, but not on the weekend. I hadn't planned on doing NaNoWriMo, but then on Halloween night I was sharing an old plot bunny with a new friend and realized, "oh shit I can actually use this." So, here we are. Thanks, friend. In true NaNoWriMo fashion, I will not be using my typical editing process here, and will instead simply vomit words onto your screen as quickly as possible, trying valiantly to avoid asking myself "oh my god who CARES" because tangents are important to wordcount.
