《Drakon the Necrolord》chapter 17 - Awakening

I rushed out of the room, saw just in time that I was naked and about to pull a Grim. Got back in, threw some clothes on, and made my way back down the stairs.

Janet rushed up from her desk as soon as she saw me and gave me a big hug.

“Your friends checked in a week ago. If not for the fact that Dave confirmed that you were re-spawning we would be really worried. They are on the way back here from Maidens Rest. Don't worry they have a powerful escort. Dave can fill you in on the rest. He wanted to see you anyways.” Janet gave me a kiss on the forehead and before letting go whispered in my ear “Thank you for keeping them all safe.”

Feeling relieved I first went upstairs to start the summons for Moira and Moira’s Wolves. As soon as I entered the barracks room I saw that it was slightly bigger and now had a pile of hay in the corner. Guessing what that was for I summoned Tobias. He gave me a small head-but in greeting and then walked over to the corner and went to nap again. I had no idea how I would get him out of there, but that was a question maybe Dave could answer. With that all taken care of, I made my way back downstairs. With my own suite not having a kitchen and no access to Grim’s room when he wasn’t there I had to grab a bite in the guildhall.

Dave greeted me as I entered.

So I quickly rushed down and grabbed some food. “Okay Dave I'm ready, how do I get to the room?”

And he teleported me to what looked like a sitting room. Closed-off cabinets with books on two opposing walls. Stained glass windows on the other two walls with some soft light coming through. One depicted a knight on horseback carrying a lance charging at a dragon. The other had what looked like the same dragon picking its teeth with the lance. Leather couches in the middle of the room facing a low table. Sitting on one of them was a male Dragon-kin. I had never met one but heard the stories.

Humanoid form 7ft tall when standing, broad-shouldered, dragon-like head and arms, with scales that were somewhere between the color of bronze and gold.

It spoke “Don’t be alarmed, I’m Dave, or at least his avatar. And before you ask, I just picked this as my avatar because dragons are cool right?” And with that, he winked. “Figured it was only right to give my request this way instead of telepathically. But ill give you the message from your friends first.” And he pointed at the other couch motioning me to sit down. “Make yourself comfortable.”

Taking up a spot opposite him and putting my feet on the table. “Yeah, I really like to know how they are doing. Janet said that I was out for a week, I have a question about that but it can wait till after.”

“They made it to Maiden’s rest in record time. The guild there had had a few reports the week before of attacks but you guys had left before word got down to here. Grim left you a letter before leaving with the party to come back here. I’ll leave any questions till after you read the letter.” And then he waved a hand a letter appeared on the table.

I picked it up and read:

We got here in two days only taking very short rests when Ethel and Ivy needed a breather. Aura is pissed at both you and me but calmed down a bit when she got word that you were re-spawning. The guild here was already in the process of forming a party to deal with the were-rats. They have offered to let us join in, but we decided to only travel with them until the way-station as we want to get back to you as soon as we can. Missy and Sissy and their parents' adventure company are joining us as well. Their parents want to thank you. Plus their dad was excited to be able to chat with someone who had the Lord class. Especially when I told him you were interested in architecture. As the system tracks the kills and we were helped set the traps we got a good chunk of experience as well. According to the system, 487 were-rats were killed in total, at 10g a pop in bounties that gave us 4870g. As we needed some supplies and Aura needed materials to finish Geri. We pulled 2870g of that leaving you with 2000g.

Aura had contacted her dad, and as a reward, he is making you something special free of charge. Depending on how long your nap is it might be done by the time you wake up. As we are traveling in a big group it will probably be about two weeks before we get back. Please try to stay alive until then.

Grim

Seeing that I finished Dave knew what I was going to ask and said “They left Maidens rest two days ago. They will probably get here between 10 to 15 days from now depending on the weather and what they encounter on the road. Don’t worry the adventurers that are with them are very high level. As you might have noticed Were-rats arent that strong individually apart from their leaders, and only really dangerous in large numbers against small parties.”

“I expect Grim to want to put his blades to use on the way so I wouldn't be surprised if they came in at the tail end of that estimate.” I grinned “I have a question though, when you told me about my race and class you said that my first re-spawn would be a short period of time, Janet told me it took me a week.”

Dave just smiled “Well to us immortals a week is a short period of time in the grand scheme of things. Remember that if you keep your home base safe you can live for millennia. There are some vampires out there that are at least 20.000 years old and have lived through three ages.”

“When you say it like that it kind of makes sense.” I sighed “I don't want to die too often then if the timer just gets longer and longer each time. Anyways on to the next thing, you said you had a request?”

“Yeah, the council has approved a request from one of my fellow dungeon cores. As you probably learned in school if the location of a dungeon is lost or moved because of some kind of calamity, like one of the apocalypses or a volcanic eruption or something like that. Its location, even though known to the council, can’t be made public again until it’s rediscovered on its own. Before we continue I need you to promise to not divulge the location to anyone including your friends.”

“I don’t like keeping secrets from my friends but as I’m intrigued you have my word,” I replied.

“Okay, just as a friendly warning, the council is putting lots of trust in you.” His dragon face taking on a slightly menacing look for a split second, before continuing. “The dungeon core in question is a good friend of mine and is one of the oldest dungeon cores around, he joined me in the fight during the dungeon wars, having been on the council itself a few times over the millennia. His location has been lost to the guild for the last 15.000 years. Because of that, he is greatly weakened at the moment, and he is very lonely. Only being able to talk to the other dungeon cores that are on the council at the time.”

“Cant he talk to the creatures in his dungeon?” I asked.

“Well, his dungeon monster type is undead. Because he doesn't get any adventurers to feed on all he can spawn at the moment are mindless zombies. As you might expect they don't talk back much.” Dave chuckled.

I chuckled as well “So what does he want from me?”

“For one he wants to meet you. With you only being the third revenant ever he has some questions. He also has a request that he wants to make in-person, just to let you know the council approved his side of the request.”

“This is getting more mysterious with the minute, anything that I need to know before I head out. As I assume I have to go alone?”

“Yes although Moira Tobias and your units count as being a part of you so they are allowed to come along,” Dave said. “Other than that nothing much, it's probably about a three to four-day journey out from here. The main reason it hasn’t been rediscovered yet is that it's a bit in from the coast and to the west through thick woods but that shouldn’t be much of a problem for your group. With Maiden’s rest being east and a lot easier terrain, the area in between has been the biggest focus for exploration.”

Before I was able to ask something else Dave spoke up again. “And one last tip, you gained a few levels, don’t spend all your path points in one go on each level up leave a couple just in case you get a new path unlocked that you like the look of.”

“Thanks for the tip. I’ll head over to the Valiant arms next as Aura’s dad wanted to talk to me. By the time I’m done there Moira should be done summoning. Can you inform your friend that I accept his request? Depending on how long it takes me to get everything ready for the trip I’m leaving here in a few days' time.”

With that, Dave gave me the precise location of the dungeon and then teleported me back to the entrance. Passing Janet I picked up the 2000g that I had in bounties and then made my way over to the Valiant arms.

When I got there I was ushered to the back and into the forge area again. By this time it looked like they were fully set up and running. Counting at least five forges with anvils set up in front with half a dozen apprentices working away at things.

Merryn came over as soon as he saw me and shook my hand. “Thanks for looking out for my daughter. She asked that I reward you for it and made a request to make you some armor. Although I think it has more to do with her wanting to keep you safe.”

“No reward is needed. But I wouldn’t say no to some better protection. Those rat bites hurt. A lot.” Then I chuckled “Besides maybe something to cover my head, that way it won’t hurt as much when one of the ladies or Grim hits me in the head for doing something stupid.”

Merryn laughed. “Yeah, my wife liked to do the same thing to me. Now come over here and ill show you what I made.” And he walked me over to a table at the back.

“This is a tortoiseshell scale mail chest plate.” And with that, he showed me a dark green piece. It looked like someone had taken a few tortoise shells and cut out all the individual plates, and then made scale mail armor out of it. “It's as hard as steel and is classed as heavy armor, but it's way more lightweight and doesn’t make as much noise. Combine that with the dark green color pallet and treated it so it doesn’t shine and reflect light as much. It makes for great protection but still being able to stealth and be somewhat camouflaged in forests or jungle.”

He then motioned me over to another table “That was her reward for you, this is mine.” And he showed me a half-finished shield made out of the same material as the armor. “The materials are the hardest to get, I’m waiting on the next shipment before I can finish it. I will hopefully have this and a helmet of the same material done in about a week's time.”

“No need to rush. I have an errand to run, and won't be back for about that amount of time. The chest piece will come in real handy though.” And at that, I shook his hand and he helped me to put it on for the first time, making some minor adjustments to make it fit better. He then ushered me out of the shop and I made my way back to the guildhall.
