《Bathilda the Bat》In A Big Pond

Most people assume that small beings are generally weaker than their larger counterparts. More often than not, that would be the correct assumption. This new world is anything but average however as Bathilda is still coming to terms with.

After she ended the life of the extremely-sneaky reptilian that had stealthily crept up on her, an earned-confidence swept over Bathilda. The overly-hairy gorilla and the hospital-sized turtle, suddenly found their own battle cut short at the hands of what-they-mistook-to-be a fly.

A fly with a death-bringing Reality Tear that is.

After dishing up a swift death for the three ridiculously-large monsters, Bathilda flew back above the clouds to plan her next course of action. Finding people is definitely still her goal, but floating around on the wind is not the way to do it.

Bathilda's hair shines beautifully in the sun's rays and she smiles as it flutters in her view. Not letting herself get distracted though, she quickly checks her status.

Shockingly, after only-three swings of her arm, Bathilda is already halfway to her next evolution.

"Everything is so big. Luckily, bigger doesn't mean stronger out here. Well, I suppose it could do, but I've yet come across that. I do know that they mean lots of XP," she giggles.

I thought we were going to find people? It sounds more like you want to go monster hunting.

"Don't be silly. People are absolutely the number one goal! But if I happen to slice up a few monsters on the way, there's no problem with that, right?" Her eyes glint at the though of more XP.

The idea of evolution is becoming intoxicating. More so now that experience has become easier to earn. Especially when she believes that her next evolution will bring her closer to what she desires. A maturer version of the body she currently possesses is almost guaranteed in her mind.

Happy about the direction of her future, Bathilda uses her newly-upgraded skill to summon two clones at once.

Hey! Why am I still in here? A dejected Hiro complains as he's not been placed in either of the them.

As with her other summoning so far, both clones looks identical to Bathilda in every way. Bright-red eyes and long-golden hair are the only defining features they possess. Unless they smile that is, even baby-bloodsucking fangs are easy to see then.

Not that her clones are smiling. The two pale-skinned children, floating above the clouds with their master, look as though they don't know the meaning of the word and hold no expression whatsoever.

"There's a reason for that, Hiro. They're not staying!" Bathilda throws Hiro a thumbs up, expecting him to know exactly what she means.

What does that mean? That doesn't tell me anything? Hiro has no clue at all as to what Bathilda is talking about though. To be fair, most of what she says is lost of him as he wasn't originally from Earth like her.

"Create clothing," Bathilda instructs her clones. They do as commanded and Illusion magic shrouds the air around them. One it receeds, both clones are left wearing the same short-white dress as Bathilda.

"This is part experiment and part hope," she informs her hitchhiker. "For the experiment side of things, I'm going to find out how far away from us the clones can travel before they die... Or... Whatever it is that will happen to them when they reach that point."

Ah. That's what you meant by not staying. Hiro finally understands Bathilda's intentions and is suddenly grateful he hasn't been summoned into one of the clones just to die again.

"Yep and hopefully, they might actually find people too. I'm going to send them in different directions and we'll keep heading north," she smiles and waits for a congratulatory response in the form of praise towards her clever plan.

Unfortunately though, it doesn't come.

Hiro is too busy fist-pumping the air in Bathilda's mind to congratule her planning skills. Feeling a bit sorry for herself that she didn't get the praise she was expecting, Bathilda sends her clones off and brings her attention back to her status.

Mainly, to boost her ego a little.

'I wonder when I'll get a class? Maybe it's a guild thing? Damn. I bet it would make me stronger too.' Heading North, Bathilda closes her status page and descends beneath the clouds.

The world below is clearly not-lacking in nature. The forest is still present as far as the eye can see. Other than the monsterous-monstrosities barging their way through the lovely greenery, there's nothing else to see. Regardless of the sea of trees and its inhabitants, Bathilda pushes on.

She releases Reality Tear after Reality Tear at anything that moves, as she cruises through the sky. "This is fucking amazing! Flying was cool before but now that we're in the open air it's even better." Bathilda spins, twirls, ascending and descending in wavy movements, enjoying her time thoroughly as shoots through the sky. "I'm a fucking superhero!" She screams at the top of her lungs.

A few miles away, Bathilda can see a football-pitch sized clearing that is surrounded by a wall. A very-tall wall, she realises. As she gets closer, she notices that the large-stone feature was built to keep the forest out. Arriving above it, not a single tree, shrub or mushroom, is visible inside. Neither are people, but a single circular building keep Bathilda's hopes up as she descends. A door that leads back to the forest is built into the surrounding wall and is the only notable feature, other than the solitary building in the middle of the field.

Why have we stopped here? This place is obviously deserted. As well as being eerily quiet, even though the forest outside was full of sound.

Feeling more than a little curious, Bathilda heads toward the circular-stone building and enters it. Inside, the room is just as empty as the field outside. With the same layout, a single stone pillar stands in the center of the room and only the door she came through accompanies it.

I don't think you should go near that.

"I know. The thing is though, Hiro. I really, really want to." Bathilda makes her way toward the plain pillar. Almost pulled by its featureless lure. As she places her hand on the cold, smooth surface, Bathilda hopes that her clones live up to her expectations.
